The village chief seemed to have forgotten the recent events. How could he overlook what had transpired so quickly?
Giving his son a stern look, the village chief turned to the people around him and instructed, “Inform the villagers that a meeting is to be held.”
“Alright,” the villagers cheerfully went to spread the message.
On the way back, Yuan Bao seemed a bit displeased, asking, “Madam, why do you still help them? Is it really worthwhile to assist such people?”
Wang Jinhe chuckled lightly and replied, “Yuan Bao, even though you might think it’s not beneficial to help them, remember, while it’s right to assist them, we actually gain more. Once you see it from that perspective, you won’t feel uneasy.”
The logic was sound, and Yuan Bao could understand Wang Jinhe’s reasoning. Yet, he still felt somewhat frustrated. These individuals had clearly done wrong, yet the Madam continued to consider their well-being.
At times, it was hard to discern whether the Madam was kind-hearted or easily taken advantage of. While she could hold her ground when needed, there were moments where her actions seemed perplexing.
Nevertheless, witnessing Wang Jinhe’s compassion also brought a sense of warmth to their hearts.
For these individuals who have experienced hell, having a compassionate figure like Wang Jinhe by their side is truly a significant blessing. It means they are not constantly dragged into darkness, and this applies to the Young Master as well.
“Madam, you are doing just fine the way you are,” Yuan Bao remarked earnestly to Wang Jinhe.
Raising an eyebrow, Wang Jinhe glanced at Yuan Bao. “I thought you would advise me otherwise.”
“If even the Young Master hasn’t advised you, why should I?” Yuan Bao responded.
Wang Jinhe nodded with a smile, acknowledging Yuan Bao’s point. Even if Yuan Bao were to advise her, she might not necessarily heed it. After all, she was someone who might not even listen to Su Yu’s words.
Shaking her head helplessly, Wang Jinhe looked at Yuan Bao and the conversation came to a halt.
Upon returning home, Su Yu was already there.
Seeing Su Yu at home, Wang Jinhe walked over happily, reached out to embrace him, and leaned on his shoulder, whispering softly, “I’m back.”
Setting aside the book in his hand, Su Yu turned his head to look at the person leaning on his shoulder and asked, “Are you tired?”
“Not really.”
“Things didn’t go smoothly?”
“They went very smoothly, and everything is taken care of.”
“If that’s the case, why do you look as if you’ve seen a frosted eggplant?” Su Yu raised an eyebrow, observing Wang Jinhe curiously.
Even during the most tiring moments, Su Yu had never seen Wang Jinhe look like this. What was going on today?
Wang Jinhe ran her hand through her hair and answered, “Do you know who csme to cause trouble for me?”
“Who?”
“It’s Gu Jing. She seems to have realized her mistake, not regretting losing Xiao Zhi, but regretting losing the connections to the Royal Mansion as well as Xiao Zhi’s abilities. It was probably when Xiao Zhi and Xiao Bao had that conversation before your expedition that caught her attention.” Wang Jinhe expressed her frustration at the situation.
Just a few casual words from Xiao Zhi managed to draw Gu Jing’s attention and ire.
“It doesn’t matter. The current Xiao Zhi is no longer the same as he used to be. With me around, Gu Jing won’t lay a hand on Xiao Zhi,” Wang Jinhe stated confidently.
Wang Jinhe understood the implications clearly. She was simply a bit displeased with Gu Jing, nothing more. It seemed as if she had done something wrong, which was not the case.
“It’s only natural for Gu Jing to regret it. After all, the current Xiao Zhi is unlike his past self, and he is someone that Gu Jing’s young son could look up to,” even though the child was only about a year and a half old.
Given Gu Jing’s overly indulgent attitude towards him, the child would likely be completely ruined by Gu Jing in the future.
A person who is arrogant and unruly, no matter how much they are given, may not be able to hold onto it. Even if Gu Jing and Zhang Qin live a long life, they will likely pass away before that child. It’s impossible to protect a child for a lifetime.
Wang Jinhe nodded in agreement, “You’re right. I share the same thoughts. I just wonder if Gu Jing is aware of this issue. If she isn’t, all the hard work and savings she’s accumulating now will likely be squandered in the future.”
“There’s no need to wait for the future. Based on Gu Jing’s current actions, if she hasn’t realized the gravity of the situation, she’ll quickly exhaust what she has,” Su Yu added.
However, Wang Jinhe shook her head with a smile, “It’s not that dire. After all, Gu Jing has Zhang Qin by her side. As long as he is determined, they can still preserve what they have.”
“You’re right.”
“Do you think Gu Jing will come to you later and express regret?” Wang Jinhe asked with interest.
“Most likely.”
Su Yu’s intuition was on point. They didn’t have to wait long; the very next day, as they were leaving the house, they found Gu Jing holding her child, blocking the doorway.
Upon seeing Gu Jing, Su Yu was not surprised in the least.
“I regret it. I don’t want your connections. I just want…”
“At that time, I warned you that once the arrow is released, it can’t be retrieved. Even if you change your mind later, it’s too late. You agreed to it yourself and eagerly chose what would benefit you,” Su Yu interrupted.
“But I…”
“Don’t talk about regret. You’re merely thinking about greater benefits. You’ve used what you wanted for over a year, and Xiao Zhi doesn’t even recognize you anymore. If you regret it, then regret it. If you don’t want it, then don’t. Do you think this place allows you to change your mind at will?” Su Yu’s gaze was sharp as he looked at Gu Jing, speaking coldly.
Gu Jing’s face turned pale as she gazed at Su Yu. While she could speak boldly in front of Wang Jinhe, facing Su Yu now, she dared not do anything.
Gu Jing didn’t even dare to go against Su Yu’s wishes.
“Back then, Zhang Qin considered choosing Xiao Zhi, but it was your own insistence that led to the choices you’ve made now,” Su Yu stated firmly.
“There’s no second chance here. You’ve already been eliminated from our sight.”
Seeing the child in Gu Jing’s arms, Su Yu’s eyes held a hint of disdain. “I have enough children at home. Madam Zhang, please take your child back. This is not where he belongs.”
As Su Yu walked past Gu Jing, she suddenly spoke up, “If you take my son as your apprentice, I will tell you something about the princess that you’ll find very interesting.”
Gu Jing believed that Su Yu would be highly interested in this piece of information.
However, Su Yu refused, saying, “I don’t need to learn about the princess from you. Whatever I wish to know, I will discover it without relying on your words.”
“Aren’t you concerned that Wang Jinhe deceived you?” Gu Jing questioned.
“I have never deceived Wang Jinhe, and she has never deceived me. If she were to deceive me and succeed, I would actually be pleased. Yuan Ji, escort them away, and ensure they don’t approach the Royal Mansion in the future,” Su Yu commanded.
“Understood.”
Su Yu left first, while Yuan Ji stood before Gu Jing, asking, “Madam Zhang, will you leave on your own, or should I escort you and your child away?”
Not wanting to lose face at that moment, Gu Jing could only leave with a cold expression, carrying her child.
Upon returning home and seeing Zhang Qin dealing with matters in the shop, her expression grim, she said, “We must find Xiao Zhi and bring him back.”
