Is she considering herself a queen assembling a harem?
Even if she were a queen, Gu Xiruo’s approach would be exceptional.
Gu Xiruo is indeed remarkable.
“Su Yu, are you sure about this? How could Jiang Wang be interested in someone like Gu Xiruo?” Despite Jiang Wang not being blind, how could he be attracted to Gu Xiruo, who seemed inconsistent?
Su Yu shrugged, “I’m not entirely sure.”
“Exactly why I want you to investigate. After all, you have a decent relationship with Jiang Wang,” Su Yu explained, realizing the potential benefit of involving Lou Manqing.
The connection between Lou Manqing and Jiang Wang was stronger than they initially thought.
“If that guy Jiang Wang truly falls for Gu Xiruo, I’ll mock him mercilessly. He always claimed to detest pretentious women. If he gets deceived by Gu Xiruo, I’ll celebrate with fireworks,” Lou Manqing exclaimed, clapping his hands.
“Isn’t it a bit early to gloat? You don’t know the whole story yet. Laughing at someone without understanding the situation isn’t ideal,” Wang Jinhe gently reminded him.
Su Yu reassured, “Xiao He, you can trust me on this.”
“Oh?”
“They are always like that, constantly teasing each other, like happy enemies,” Su Yu mentioned, recalling their past childish antics with disdain.
Lou Manqing cleared his throat, “Can’t you show me some respect in front of Sister-in-law?”
Eyeing Lou Manqing up and down, Su Yu quipped, “Do you, someone like you, really need respect?”
Giving Lou Manqing a look, why shouldn’t he also be mindful of his dignity?
“Husband, stop bullying him all the time; it’s not nice,” Wang Jinhe intervened.
“After I receive information about Jiang Wang, I’ll inform you, although it may not necessarily be related to him,” Lou Manqing stated. Despite their contentious relationship, each time they met, they would banter, yet they had a deep understanding of each other.
Lou Manqing had insights into Jiang Wang’s character and potential actions.
“I see.”
“I’ll take my leave. I’ll inform you once I have any updates,” and with that, he left without finishing his tea.
“Is Lou Manqing just in a good mood whenever something good happens?” Wang Jinhe tilted her head, looking at Su Yu.
In recent days, every time they saw Lou Manqing, he appeared cheerful, as if eager to share his happiness with everyone.
“Indeed, it’s the same for everyone.” Getting engaged to someone you love and preparing for marriage naturally brings immense joy.
“Have they mentioned when the wedding will take place?”
“Based on the Ming family’s indications, it might be at the end of this year or early next year. They also want to keep Ming Wanxin for some time.”
“I see.” That explained why Lou Manqing wasn’t rushing into marriage.
“Lou Manqing will probably have to wait.”
“If he doesn’t wait, what can he do? Go challenge the Ming family? Even with some courage, he wouldn’t dare,” Su Yu remarked with amusement.
Attempting to compete with his future father-in-law for his daughter’s hand in marriage was something he was in no hurry to do.
Wang Jinhe chuckled as she looked at Su Yu.
Fortunately, Lou Manqing had already left; otherwise, who knows what else he might have said.
Lou Manqing might end up dueling with him by then.
“I plan to visit Gu Yanqi tomorrow,” Wang Jinhe said to Su Yu.
For a brief moment, Su Yu seemed displeased, “He’s being looked after by Wan Gu and the others, so what’s there to see?”
There’s nothing interesting when the person isn’t even awake.
Wang Jinhe looked at Su Yu helplessly, “He’s still unconscious. I just want to check and make sure Gu Sheng doesn’t do anything to him.”
“The recent actions of Gu Sheng raise suspicions.”
“It’s quite simple. Once he realized what kind of person Gu Xiruo is and now cherishes the good relationship between you and Gu Yanqi, he doesn’t want to end up lonely in his old age. Naturally, he wants to establish good relations with both of you.”
“I’ve cut ties with him. Instead of coming to me, he should think about repairing his relationship with Gu Yanqi. After all, that’s his biological son that he raised, not like me, his daughter he only recently found out about,” Wang Jinhe stated, frowning in dissatisfaction.
She simply disliked Gu Sheng’s manipulative behavior.
“Gu Sheng understands this logic well. However, he also knows that if he wants Gu Yanqi to forgive him, the only way is to start with you. His previous actions towards Gu Xiruo, as well as both of you, have already left Gu Yanqi thoroughly disappointed. Repairing the relationship won’t be easy,” especially now that Gu Sheng is only seeking to mend ties because he no longer has Gu Xiruo as a daughter.
Even if Gu Yanqi understands Gu Sheng’s intentions, he won’t approve of this approach.
“Gu Yanqi is well aware of many things. He knows you wouldn’t agree, so naturally, he won’t agree either. Now that Gu Sheng can’t win your favor due to Gu Xiruo’s absence, he looks for an opportunity to mend relations with you.”
Gu Sheng is fully aware that once Gu Yanqi regains consciousness, their relationship won’t improve significantly. If he goes through with this, it will likely bring trouble upon himself—it’s not a wise move.
As long as Gu Sheng isn’t foolish, he will seize this chance to establish a better relationship with Wang Jinhe. Only then can he have some influence in front of Gu Yanqi.
Wang Jinhe rolled her eyes disapprovingly and said, “Do I look that easy to deceive?”
“If I yield, wouldn’t my injury have been in vain? Besides, it was me who initiated the relationship cut-off, even having the imperial decree issued by the Emperor. If I were to fulfill Gu Sheng’s wishes, it would be a slap in the face to both me and the Emperor. It might be alright to embarrass myself, but involving the Emperor in such matters is another level of embarrassment. It wouldn’t just be my disgrace; it would be a disgrace for both of us,” Wang Jinhe explained, recalling the circumstances when Xuan Feiran cut of her relationship with Gu Sheng.
Su Yu playfully tapped Wang Jinhe’s forehead and shook his head, “You don’t need to worry about that.”
Initially surprised, Wang Jinhe then smiled, “People reciprocate kindness. If the Emperor treats me well, naturally, I should consider his feelings too.”
“If you have that mindset, the Emperor will be pleased. You don’t need to rush; the Emperor won’t let you down,” Su Yu assured her.
“I can’t help with major issues, but shouldn’t I pay attention to these minor ones? I wouldn’t want trouble from the Inspectorate coming my way later on,” Wang Jinhe remarked, dreading the officials from the Inspectorate.
Listening to Wang Jinhe, Su Yu couldn’t help but chuckle, “It seems like the Inspectorate has quite a notorious reputation these days.”
“Some people indeed focus on doing their duties, while others seem to avoid their responsibilities and instead create trouble here and there, which can be quite annoying,” Wang Jinhe grumbled in discontent.
Su Yu understood Wang Jinhe’s sentiment, “Exactly, that’s why I’m not eager to attend court sessions regularly.”
“You should lighten up a bit; you tend to scare the court ministers half to death every time you attend court,” Wang Jinhe teased.
