“With Gu Xiruo’s people still around the Gu family, she will soon find out that I have awakened from the poisoning,” Gu Yanqi shook his head.
Gu Xiruo wouldn’t need to return to the Gu family to confirm if he was alive. With the deteriorating relationships between her, the Gu family, and Gu Sheng, returning now would only bring disgrace upon herself. If she wished to avoid such a scenario, she would find a place to stay on her own.
“In reality, Gu Xiruo is quite clever. She purchased a separate courtyard long ago. Even if she loses ties with the Qing family and the Gu family, she still has a place to stay and enough resources to live quite comfortably.”
Nan Qiao scoffed, “With the meager possessions she holds now, considering her current situation, they will likely be depleted, leaving her with nothing.”
“That might not be the case,” Wang Jinhe interjected.
“Why do you say that, Sister-in-law?” Nan Qiao inquired curiously.
Could it be that Gu Xiruo had a hidden ace up her sleeve?
“Gu Xiruo values power, status, and wealth because her biological parents were ordinary people. She knows only she can secure a good life for herself. Therefore, she must have some backup plans in place. She won’t allow herself to have nothing,” Wang Jinhe explained. Having grown accustomed to a luxurious lifestyle, Gu Xiruo would likely struggle with a simpler life.
Unwilling to continue down this path, living separately may indeed prompt changes in Gu Xiruo’s attitude towards herself and those around her, a point left unspoken by Wang Jinhe.
“You’re right, Princess. With Gu Xiruo’s dowry and the bride price from her in-laws still in her possession, even without a lavish mansion, these assets could provide her with a comfortable life as long as she manages her finances wisely,” Gu Yanqi mentioned. As long as she isn’t extravagant with her spending, supporting Gu Xiruo for the rest of her life shouldn’t pose a problem.
Feeling somewhat disappointed, Nan Qiao hadn’t expected things to unfold this way. If only he could make Gu Xiruo regret her choices.
As Nan Qiao’s eyes darted around, contemplating a direct intervention, Wang Jinhe amusingly cautioned, “There’s no need to take matters into your own hands.”
Nan Qiao, disagreeing with Wang Jinhe, asked, “Aren’t you angry, Sister-in-law?”
“Why should I be angry? Everyone leads their own life. As long as Gu Xiruo doesn’t provoke me, I have no reason to get entangled with her. I’m doing just fine now,” Wang Jinhe responded. For her, getting too involved with Gu Xiruo would only waste her time.
There’s really no need for that.
“Princess, while you may feel this way, do you think Gu Xiruo sees things the same?” While Wang Jinhe may not wish to engage in conflict with Gu Xiruo, she anticipates potential trouble from someone like Gu Xiruo.
“It doesn’t matter whether she thinks that way. What’s important is, if Gu Xiruo continues down this path, I will take direct action without leaving any room for negotiation,” Wang Jinhe stated firmly, having already thought through the situation regarding Gu Xiruo.
She won’t tolerate Gu Xiruo’s behavior any longer. Regardless of who might support Gu Xiruo, if she causes trouble again, Wang Jinhe will act decisively, leaving Gu Xiruo with no room for maneuver.
Seeing Wang Jinhe’s silence, Nan Qiao’s skeptical expression left Wang Jinhe somewhat speechless.
Was there so little trust in her? To be regarded with such suspicion.
“I’m being serious, not joking with you. Don’t look at me like that,” Wang Jinhe reminded, a hint of annoyance in her tone.
Nan Qiao chuckled, “Sister-in-law, I’m not doubting you, but your words do raise suspicions.”
Wang Jinhe:”…,”
Nan Qiao’s words seemed better left unsaid.
Gu Yanqi sat nearby, watching the playful banter between the two with a smile in his eyes. With companions like Wang Jinhe, whether or not he had a brother like himself felt inconsequential.
Although he tried to convince himself otherwise, Gu Yanqi still felt a tinge of discomfort.
Despite her being his sister, he couldn’t openly show his kindness towards her. This bittersweet feeling was something only he could understand.
Noticing Gu Yanqi’s gaze, Wang Jinhe acknowledged it but deemed it unimportant to her.
Therefore, she chose to ignore it as if she hadn’t seen it.
News of Gu Yanqi’s awakening quickly spread to the rest of the Gu family.
With the rest of the family knowing, it meant that Gu Xiruo would also find out.
Having just moved and still in the midst of organizing her new home, Gu Xiruo received word from the Gu family that Gu Yanqi had unexpectedly awakened.
“How is that possible?” The individual had clearly stated that this kind of poison was difficult to counteract, beyond the capabilities of ordinary people. How could it have been neutralized so quickly?
This news left Gu Xiruo in a sour mood, leading her to question if it was a scheme orchestrated by the Gu family.
“I’ll visit the Gu family; you keep tidying up,” Gu Xiruo decided after a moment of contemplation, determined to verify the situation firsthand.
Upon arriving at the Gu family, she was greeted by the jubilant servants announcing Gu Yanqi’s awakening—a development that was far from favorable for Gu Xiruo.
Approaching the place where Gu Yanqi resided, Gu Xiruo was halted at the door by a guard, “Miss Gu, please wait. You can’t enter without the Young Master’s permission.”
Coldly eyeing the person blocking her path, Gu Xiruo’s mood soured, her expression turning grim.
“Are you trying to block me?”
“This is the Young Master’s order,” the guard implied that it didn’t matter who spoke; he only followed Gu Yanqi’s instructions.
“Then go inform him,” Gu Xiruo stated sternly, her voice loud enough to be heard inside. She doubted that Gu Yanqi wouldn’t hear her.
With a tight grip, Gu Xiruo watched as the guard hesitated, unsure of what to do next.
Although Gu Yanqi had heard Gu Xiruo’s arrival earlier, he had remained silent.
Now, with Gu Xiruo boldly requesting entry, denying her access might make him appear petty.
“Let her in,” he thought curiously about what Gu Xiruo wanted.
Hearing Gu Yanqi’s voice, Gu Xiruo entered the room, casting a cold glance at the messenger guard, silently contemplating a change in personnel.
If it had been someone under her command, she would have dismissed them without a second thought.
Gu Xiruo entered the room to find Wang Jinhe and Nan Qiao still present, furrowing her brows instinctively, “Why are you still here?”
“Why are they still here when everyone is awake?”
“Miss Gu, your words are not entirely accurate. We are the ones who saved the young master of the Gu family. Since he hasn’t asked us to leave, it’s rather impolite of you to suggest it.”
Gu Yanqi looked at Gu Xiruo, asking, “What brings you here?”
“As my nominal brother, if something happens to you, shouldn’t I come to check on you?” Gu Xiruo’s words sounded dignified but carried a hint of irony.
“I don’t need you to check on me. What if, after you’ve taken a look, I suddenly deteriorate or get poisoned again? That wouldn’t be ideal, right?” Gu Yanqi pointed out.
