Considering Su Yu’s earlier words, Wang Jinhe paused for a moment before asking, “You mentioned that Hong Shi’s temperament drastically changed due to her difficult circumstances, and she harbors resentment towards Gu Xiruo for living a good life without considering them. After coming to Gu Xiruo’s side, wouldn’t she expect to be treated like the lady of the house and make various demands?”
After speaking, Wang Jinhe looked at Su Yu, seeking confirmation.
With a hint of amusement in her eyes, Su Yu replied, “My wife is indeed clever. Your guess is close to the mark.”
Su Yu recounted all that Hong Shi had done to Wang Jinhe, who was left speechless. “Is Hong Shi actively seeking trouble?”
It’s worth noting that Gu Xiruo is not a kind-hearted person.
Su Yu continued with a smile, “Indeed, a few days ago, Hong Shi took one of Gu Xiruo’s hairpins, which held significant meaning to her, and ended up breaking it.”
“And then?”
“Hong Shi is currently bedridden, unable to do anything other than talk.”
Wang Jinhe looked at Su Yu in shock, uncertain as she asked, “Was it Gu Xiruo’s doing?”
Su Yu shook her head. “No, it was Hong Gang.”
Wang Jinhe’s expression shifted slightly. “Hong Gang went to such lengths for Gu Xiruo? How does Gu Xiruo feel about him?”
“Gu Xiruo seems to have accepted Hong Gang. Her attitude towards him is decent. Perhaps she appreciates the things he has done for her, and her conscience has been pricked,” Su Yu remarked sarcastically.
Listening to Su Yu’s words, Wang Jinhe found her expression turning peculiar. “Gu Sheng doted on Gu Xiruo from a young age, giving her whatever she wanted. His kindness towards her isn’t less than what Hong Gang has shown. Gu Xiruo didn’t even seem particularly sincere towards Gu Sheng. Now, she’s showing genuine feelings to someone she’s barely met. Do you believe that?”
Su Yu raised an eyebrow at Wang Jinhe. “Why not?”
Gu Xiruo’s behavior can be quite easily understood. She likely feels that the Gu family is wealthy and powerful, yet Gu Sheng only gives her so little. Especially with Xiaohe’s appearance, she has been worried about her status and position being threatened, hence her heightened demands on Gu Sheng.
After Gu Sheng failed to secure the position of the Gu family head for her, and her marriage dowry was criticized, Gu Xiruo likely remembers these events vividly, possibly attributing them to Gu Sheng’s perceived incompetence.
Listening to Su Yu’s analysis, Wang Jinhe appeared resigned. “I’m starting to have trouble understanding Gu Xiruo.”
“Why do you say that?”
“No matter what, Gu Sheng’s upbringing of her should hold more weight, right? Honestly, Gu Sheng has been good to Gu Xiruo over the years, treating her well. It’s a pity to see it all culminate like this in the end,” Wang Jinhe expressed with a tinge of regret.
Su Yu reached out to pat Wang Jinhe’s head, a playful smile in her eyes. “Oh, you.”
“What’s with that expression?”
“Just a reminder, human hearts are often greedy. In Gu Xiruo’s eyes, Gu Sheng had many possessions but only gave her a small share, while Hong Gang had little but gave her everything. When compared, Gu Xiruo naturally chose Hong Gang over Gu Sheng.”
Wang Jinhe sighed softly and shook her head. “Gu Sheng is also a pitiable person.”
“Pitiful people often have detestable aspects. Compared to some others, what makes Gu Sheng pitiful? It’s just a bit of a mess. Now, he’s become a solitary figure.”
“Is Hong Shi willing to accept this situation?”
“What can she do if she’s unwilling? Her life is in Hong Gang’s hands.”
Upon careful consideration, Wang Jinhe realized the truth in Su Yu’s words.
“Do you plan to use Hong Shi to deal with Gu Xiruo?”
Wang Jinhe shook her head. “It’s not the right time. Hong Shi’s hatred towards Gu Xiruo and Hong Gang hasn’t peaked yet. Also, she’s not a formidable opponent for Gu Xiruo and her father. Who knows, she might turn on us at any moment. It’s not a good idea.”
Moreover, aside from the recent issue involving Gu Yanqi, Gu Xiruo had been relatively calm and hadn’t directly caused any trouble for herself. It wouldn’t be wise for her to make any moves at this point.
Su Yu and Wang Jinhe shared the same perspective – Hong Shi wasn’t yet a valuable pawn in their game.
“You can inform Gu Yanqi about this matter and advise him to be cautious. After all, we won’t always be here, and whether this pawn will be useful remains uncertain,” Su Yu suggested.
After serious consideration, Wang Jinhe agreed that Su Yu’s suggestion had merit.
“Later, I’ll have someone inform Gu Yanqi about the relationship between Gu Xiruo and Hong Gang. As for what he decides to do next, it’s up to him.”
“Understood.”
After preparing everything to hand over to Gu Yanqi, Wang Jinhe had a sudden thought.
“Su Yu, I have an idea.”
“Yes?”
“Based on the information you found, it seems that Hong Gang is somewhat capable. Even to avoid causing trouble for Gu Xiruo, he wouldn’t let his own life deteriorate like this,” Wang Jinhe remarked with a furrowed brow.
But now, they are seeking refuge with Gu Xiruo because they can’t survive. Is this someone’s deliberate plan, or is there more to it?
With a smile in her eyes, Su Yu noticed that Xiao He had finally pinpointed the issue – excellent.
After Su Yu’s response, Wang Jinhe observed her seemingly unsurprised demeanor and asked curiously, “You don’t seem surprised at all about this matter. Why is that?”
Su Yu chuckled softly, “Indeed, I’m not surprised. However, we haven’t yet uncovered the specifics.”
“Someone really targeted them?” Wang Jinhe looked surprised.
“Yes, the evidence of human intervention is quite clear. However, the perpetrator’s identity remains unknown. They are cautious in their actions, and it was this realization that prompted Hong Gang to seek refuge with Gu Xiruo.” Hong Gang is clever; he knows how to approach Gu Xiruo to make her more receptive to him.
If only his wife understood his intentions, Hong Shi wouldn’t have ended up in such a dire situation.
“Gu Xiruo is indeed fortunate to have such a father,” Wang Jinhe remarked after a moment of silence.
“Envious?”
Wang Jinhe gently shook her head. “Not envious, just feeling that perhaps she did some good deeds in her past life. Whether it was the previous Gu Sheng or the current Hong Gang, they have both been so kind to her.”
The thought of it was bittersweet.
Nonetheless, she had no reason to be envious. Since coming into this world, both her own family and the Su family had treated her well, which was more than enough to make her content.
With a smile in his eyes, Su Yu reached out to pat Wang Jinhe’s head and softly said, “It’s good that you think that way.”
“Why do you always pat my head, treating me like a little puppy? I’m going to lose face?” Wang Jinhe joked.
“As long as you have a good husband, What’s the use of having face,” Su Yu quipped.
