Su Yu never considered himself a good person, nor did he think he was a virtuous one. As long as people didn’t cross his bottom line, he was fine with whatever they wanted to do. But today, this person truly pushed his buttons.
“You said you wanted to do something to my wife and child? I’ll give you one more chance to repeat it,” Su Yu calmly stared at Luo Shi, speaking each word distinctly.
Luo Shi was completely panicked. She kept struggling and slapped Su Yu’s hand. “Let me go!”
“I told you to speak,” Su Yu said, his tone filled with bloodlust.
Ever since he found out about the woman he once regarded as an antidote having a child, and especially after she gave birth to his child, he felt an overwhelming sense of guilt. He had been constantly thinking about how he could make amends for the trauma they had experienced.
When Su Yu came here to find Wang Jinhe and their child and learned about the life they had been living these past few years, he felt even more distressed. Wang Jinhe had told him to let the past go, not to seek revenge, and he had respected her wishes. But why were these people so ungrateful?
They constantly appeared in front of him, flaunting their presence, and now they dared to speak such words.
When Wang Jinhe told him that she had truly considered ending her life and that she couldn’t reconcile with these people, his heart ached.
If initially he took care of her out of responsibility, now he genuinely wanted to live with Wang Jinhe and share their lives together.
After all these years, these people still dared to insult his wife. It was not hard to imagine just how hurtful their words had been to make Wang Jinhe consider ending her life.
“Wang Jinhe, tell your people to let her go. Luo Shi’s son is a schoolar, and it won’t benefit your family if this escalates.”
Wang Jinhe couldn’t help but laugh. “What does that have to do with you? You came to find the village chief just to make him persuade me and lead you to make money. Why do you think you have the right?”
“Was it because you all wished for my death back then, or because you kept trying to sabotage my family later on? How much did I have to degrade myself to do such a thing?” Wang Jinhe pointed to her heart, looking at the group of people. “During that period, I couldn’t even dare to leave my home. Whenever I went to town, you would either insult me or have children throw stones at me. Is it a crime to become pregnant before marriage? Did I desecrate your ancestors’ graves to deserve this treatment for me and my family?”
This period of time had made Wang Jinhe realize one thing: these people had no shame. Only when she took a strong stand, made them understand how far she was willing to go, would they stop harassing her.
With Su Yu making the first move and her following up in anger, Wang Jinhe was determined to see if anyone would dare to come and cause trouble afterward.
“Yes, I was pregnant before marriage. If I were a member of Xie Village, I’d accept that you’d consider me a disgrace to Xie Village and that it might affect the unmarried people in the village. But am I one of you? Are I and my family members from Xie Village?” Wang Jinhe looked at them and asked one word at a time.
“Let me tell you, this year, I’ve only planted watermelons. Now, I’ve also started planting strawberries, dragon fruit, cantaloupes, and more. Next year, I’ll earn even more money. I’ll take those who openly or secretly helped my family make money in the past and help them make even more money. But what does it have to do with you?”
“Not only can I help them earn money by growing fruits, but I can also help them earn money by growing vegetables. My family’s vegetables can be sold at a higher price, and they sell well. What does it have to do with you?”
“The village chief doesn’t agree with you, so you want to change the village chief? Go ahead and try to change one, then let me see,” Wang Jinhe said, looking at them with a cold smile.
The village chief, hearing Wang Jinhe’s words, asked in curiosity, “Xiaohe, are you really planning to have the people in the village grow vegetables?”
“Of course. My family has already started saving seeds, and once they’re available, we’ll distribute them to everyone. We’ll also buy all the vegetables they grow, and not only vegetables, we’ll take eggs and duck eggs too.”
“Then we’re all good.” The village chief said happily.
The village chief was pleased, but the people in front of him had faces as unattractive as if they’d eaten feces.
Su Yu looked at the frightened Luo Shi, disdainfully tossed her aside, walked over to Wang Jinhe, and said, “Don’t come looking for the village chief again, and don’t come looking for Xiao He again. If you dare to come, your fate will be the same as that old woman. I have plenty of money. Even if I cripple you, I can afford to compensate you. I can ask my brother to use his connections. Don’t think about a hundred or two taels; I can compensate you with fifty, twenty taels. Just see if you’ll spend your life lying in bed.”
Su Yu’s words made the people present feel a little apprehensive. When Su Yu said he would act, he acted directly without giving them any face.
They believed that Su Yu was capable of such actions.
“You don’t need to look at the village chief like this. If even Xiao He can’t stop me, it’s even more impossible for me to be stopped by him. I’ve been wanting to settle accounts with you one by one for the things that happened to my wife and child back then. Xiao He held me back, but it doesn’t mean I really don’t know anything. I’m feeling wronged inside, and if you want to vent, I won’t mind,” Su Yu said coldly, looking at them without mincing his words.
Everyone exchanged glances and then scattered, not daring to linger any longer. As for Luo Shi, who had been scared into wetting herself, no one paid her any attention.
At this moment, Yuan Xu returned holding a box and said, “Young Master, all the coppers are here.”
Su Yu carried the box over to Luo Shi and emptied all the coppers onto her body, saying, “This is for your medical expenses.”
Watching the coppers scattered all over the place, Xie Kui’s mouth twitched slightly. Su Yu was really good at humiliating people.
This kind of money, no matter who received it, would probably be infuriated, and taking the money was even worse than not taking it.
After glancing at Luo Shi, Xie Kui shook his head. Luo Shi had been domineering in the village for so long, and now she had encountered Su Yu, who completely disregarded her. It was a disaster for her.
The people who had left were secretly watching from a distance. When they saw Su Yu beating Luo Shi to this extent and only compensating her with ten taels for medical expenses, they felt it was a great insult.
“Village Chief, remember to come to my betrothal ceremony with Xiao He on the tenth day of next month,” Su Yu said to the Village Chief with a smile.
Seeing the killing machine-like Su Yu suddenly turn into a polite young man, Xie Kui’s mouth twitched slightly. He was indeed too naive.
“Don’t worry, we’ll definitely come then. But regarding your family…” Xie Kui hesitated.
“I don’t have a good relationship with my parents. They don’t need to know about it, but my most respected grandfather is coming, and I’ve already sent a letter back to him,” Su Yu said, knowing what the Village Chief wanted to ask and choosing not to hide anything.
“That’s good.”
