“Since that’s the case, why did you intervene in the selection of the steward for the county office?”
Suddenly, Wang Jinhe felt like trouble had come to her doorstep uninvited, which left her feeling disgusted.
“I, as the Princess, am not as idle as you think to bother with whether you’re changing stewards in your county office.”
“Sister-in-law this is too disgusting. I’ll have someone investigate what her brother has been up to.”
“Alright,” Wang Jinhe nodded.
She had to prepare for breeding matters and truly had no time to deal with such trivial issues.
The magistrate glanced at his wife but said nothing.
He had done everything he could and should do, but some people were unappreciative. If that’s the case, there’s nothing more to say.
What happens next will depend on his own fate.
The magistrate’s wife seemed unaware of the gravity of the situation, but the evidence that should have arrived within half an hour was already in hand.
Wang Jinhe opened it and, after reading, furrowed her brow slightly, saying, “Come and see what your elder brother has done using you.”
The magistrate felt a pang of unease.
Trembling, he reached out to take the item from Wang Jinhe, took a deep breath to compose himself.
After the magistrate finished looking at what Wang Jinhe gave him, confusion filled his eyes, leaving him dumbfounded.
“This… this…”
“Have you seen clearly?” Wang Jinhe asked the magistrate.
Defeated, the magistrate knelt before her, “I leave it to the Princess’s judgment.”
“Go arrest your elder brother, provide an explanation to the victims, and as for your wife… well, figure out how to handle that yourself.”
Taking a deep breath, his face grim, the magistrate nodded, ”I know what I must do.”
Wang Jinhe nodded, “I have other matters to attend to, so take your wife and leave.”
The magistrate stood up, leading his wife away from where Wang Jinhe resided.
Glancing at the incriminating evidence on the table, Wang Jinhe mused, “I initially had no intention to interfere. The magistrate must handle it as he sees fit. Unfortunately, some individuals seem to have an inflated sense of importance.”
“Isn’t this inviting trouble upon oneself?” It was surprising that this so-called wife had such tendencies, leaving one taken aback.
Back at their residence, the magistrate coldly addressed his wife, “Because you went to the princess and caused a scene, your brother is now in grave danger.”
“What nonsense are you talking about? How could my brother be in danger? That’s just absurd.”
Seeing her stubborn refusal to believe, the magistrate felt a headache coming on.
“Whether you believe it or not is up to you. I’m just reminding you that the princess knows everything about what your brother did, whom he harmed, and she not only knows but also has evidence. What do you think the princess will do next?” The magistrate was exasperated by her attitude.
Initially, he had thought of turning a blind eye, considering they were family, just replacing the person would have sufficed. Who could have foreseen they would act so recklessly?
When someone is set on self-destruction, there’s not much others can do.
Only now did the magistrate’s wife realize the fear, trembling as she asked, “What should we do now?”
“I don’t know. This matter is out of my hands now. I have no idea if things will turn out well for me afterwards. I don’t have the time to deal with his affairs.”
“Husband, that’s my brother. You can’t just stand by and watch,” the magistrate’s wife finally felt fear.
The magistrate looked at her, realizing that even at this point, she was only concerned about her brother, completely disregarding his well-being, which left him feeling disappointed.
After his disappointment, the magistrate spoke coldly, “I can’t help him.”
“No, you can, as long as you say you were the one behind those things. That way, my brother will be safe,” the magistrate’s wife pleaded with the magistrate.
“You like me so much, you will surely agree to this, right?” the magistrate’s wife beseeched the magistrate.
For the first time, the magistrate felt like all his kindness towards her had been wasted.
Trembling, he pointed at his wife, “You’re unbelievable, wanting me to take the blame for him? Do you realize what consequences I would face? Are you willing for me to die for your brother?”
Frowning, the magistrate’s wife, feeling frustrated, responded, “How could you say it’s like asking you to die? You are an official, even if she is the Princess, she can’t do much to you. And can you handle the aftermath of saving my brother smoothly?”
This way, if her brother was safe, even if the magistrate faced consequences, it wouldn’t be fatal.
The magistrate, seeing her dismissive attitude, felt very uncomfortable. He had always been kind to his wife, never even considering taking a concubine, often turning a blind eye to many things.
Now, facing such a situation, he thought this was just what he deserved.
The magistrate’s wife continued to focus on herself, completely oblivious to the magistrate’s demeanor.
Observing her nonchalant behavior, the magistrate calmly stated, “I will not agree to take the blame for him. From now on, you are on your own, and I will no longer involve myself in your family’s affairs.”
“If your brother ends up dead, it will be your doing, not mine. Why should I sacrifice myself for him? Does he deserve it?”
As the magistrate’s wife persisted in discussing the matter, she suddenly heard the magistrate’s words and became resentful, saying, “How dare you! If you dare, we will get a divorce.”
The magistrate’s wife had employed such tactics many times before, always getting what she wanted.
She had assumed the same outcome this time, believing the magistrate would compromise upon mentioning divorce.
However, this time, the magistrate refused to compromise.
He looked at his wife, rubbed his forehead in annoyance, and said, “There’s no need to discuss divorce. I will divorce you directly.”
The confidence on the magistrate’s wife’s face instantly froze, disbelief evident as she looked at the magistrate, “What are you saying? You’re actually divorcing me?”
“Isn’t this what you wanted?” the magistrate said calmly.
“You are already married to me; you should prioritize me. Yet, your thoughts revolve around your family, considering how to handle your brother and them,” he continued.
“Now you want me to take the blame for him? I’ve had enough this time. Do as you please—divorce me or I’ll divorce you, it’s your choice.” The magistrate’s tone remained indifferent as he spoke to his wife.

The magistrate’s wife stared at him, utterly stunned.
“Are you serious?” Her voice trembled as she asked.
The magistrate looked at her coldly, his calm demeanor sending chills down the magistrate’s wife’s spine. “You promised to treat me well for a lifetime.”
“I did promise, but not with your actions. How have you treated me in return for my kindness?” the magistrate asked coldly.
One sentence left the magistrate’s wife at a loss for words.
“You’re after my life, yet you expect me to treat you well. Do I seem that foolish? Should I just obey whatever you say?” The magistrate realized that perhaps being too kind to her over the years had resulted in her not taking him seriously.
