“What’s wrong?” Seeing Su Yu’s sudden change in demeanor, Wang Jinhe asked with concern.
Su Yu seemed extremely angry at the moment.
“Yu Yan went to Huang Qi for treatment. During the examination, she slapped Huang Qi and insulted him as a charlatan,” Su Yu explained the situation to Wang Jinhe.
“Now Yu Yan has ordered her guards to destroy the clinic.”
Upon hearing this, Wang Jinhe’s face darkened, gritting his teeth as he said, “Is Yu Yan out of her mind?”
She has the audacity to seek treatment after physically assaulting Huang Qi, expecting him to treat her is absurd. If Huang Qi were to treat her after that, wouldn’t it be degrading for him?
“I do not agree with Huang Qi treating her hand.”
“Same here. I’ll go check it out first, and it’s a good opportunity for Nan Qiao to vent some frustration,” Yu Yan thought of this as a chance to present Nan Qiao with evidence of her behavior.
“In that case, bring Nan Qiao along. He must be eager to see this woman face consequences,” Wang Jinhe quickly suggested.
If Yu Yan were to be apprehended by the county magistrate, especially in front of Nan Qiao, it would likely be a significant blow to her pride and reputation, wouldn’t it?
“I’ll go get Nan Qiao,” Su Yu got up to find Nan Qiao.
When Nan Qiao learned of Su Yu’s intentions, his eyes lit up.
“Brother Yu, are you really taking me with you?” Nan Qiao asked excitedly.
“If I wasn’t taking you, why would I come to find you? Let’s go quickly,” Su Yu replied.
Nan Qiao followed Su Yu as they left, with Bai Qi and the other two also tagging along to join in the commotion.
Upon arrival, the clinic was in disarray. Huang Qi stood by, watching Yu Yan instruct people to destroy things, seemingly unperturbed.
“Madam, let me remind you, many of the medicinal herbs in this clinic are rare and valuable. If damaged, they will need to be compensated at market value,” Huang Qi suddenly interjected.
Yu Yan paid no attention to Huang Qi’s words. She was eager to see how Huang Qi would handle the situation in the end, as he was just a physician from a clinic in her eyes.
Su Yu led Nan Qiao and the others inside. Upon seeing them, Yu Yan subconsciously furrowed her brows and her expression soured, asking, “What are you doing here?”
“This is my brother Yu’s clinic,” Nan Qiao spoke up, observing the chaotic state of the clinic.
“Tsk, the herbs in my brother Yu’s clinic are top-notch. You’ve destroyed so much in one go. That’s going to cost you a pretty penny,” Nan Qiao gloated.
“Go fetch the county magistrate,” Su Yu wasted no time, instructing someone nearby to summon the magistrate.
Yu Yan’s calm expression finally shifted. Huang Qi, observing the change in her demeanor, smirked slightly, “Madam, I did warn you.”
Whose fault was it if she didn’t heed the warnings?
Soon enough, the county magistrate arrived, well aware that this clinic belonged to Su Yu.
Who would have thought that someone would dare to destroy the Prince’s clinic today?
Who has the audacity to do such a thing?
“Your Excellency, greetings.”
“Please rise.”
Yu Yan’s expression finally changed when the county magistrate was summoned directly.
“Su Yu, I am not a part of your Xuan Empire; I am from the Nanjiang.”
“What’s wrong with being from the Nanjiang? Don’t think that just because the Xuan Empire and the Nanjiang have a cooperative relationship, you can act as you please in the Xuan Empire,” Su Yu spoke coldly.
“Furthermore, the one maintaining relations between the Xuan Empire and the Nanjiang is Nan Qiao, not you. Don’t try to take credit for it.”
Nan Qiao stood silently with Bai Qi and the others, simply observing the scene unfold.
He didn’t need to do anything; his mere presence made Yu Yan lose face.
Yu Yan fell silent because she knew that if there were any issues on her end, the Nanjiang King would not stand by her side.
After all, this was her mistake, unrelated to the Xuan Empire.
In an unjust situation, why should the Nanjiang King speak up for her?
“I will compensate for the damages.”
“Huang Qi, calculate our losses with your team. Since the other party is so extravagant, we need not be frugal. Whatever the amount is, that’s what we will pay,” Su Yu instructed.
“Yes, Young Master.”
Huang Qi, accompanied by two apprentices, began assessing the damages.
As Huang Qi inspected the damaged ginseng roots, Yu Yan’s expression finally changed.
These ginseng roots were all centuries-old wild mountain ginseng, with many of their roots broken and their medicinal properties compromised.
Just these few centuries-old wild mountain ginseng amounted to three thousand taels of silver.
Next were some premium healing ointments and powders.
“Our ointments are priced at twenty taels, fifty taels, and another twenty taels per bottle. Sixteen bottles of the twenty-tael ointment were destroyed, along with thirty bottles of the fifty-tael ointment. The powder, though less expensive at ten taels per bottle, had a total of fifty bottles damaged.”
Following that were various miscellaneous medicinal herbs.
All these medicinal items combined amounted to a compensation of fifty thousand taels of silver.
“In total, fifty-five thousand three hundred and twenty taels of silver. I’ll waive the twenty taels, leaving you with a payment of fifty-five thousand three hundred taels. Will you be paying in silver or other means?” Huang Qi asked sternly, looking at Yu Yan.
Yu Yan was taken aback by the high value of these medicinal herbs.
“Yu Yan, you also possess medical skills. You should know whether these herbs are truly worth this price,” Nan Qiao interjected before Yu Yan could speak.
Yu Yan’s expression shifted slightly, facing Nan Qiao’s chilling gaze.
Nan Qiao calmly returned the look, a gentle smile on his face, “Is there something on your mind?”
“Are you pleased with yourself when mocking me, Nan Qiao?”
After a moment’s thought, Nan Qiao surprisingly nodded, “Yes, you’re right. I am quite pleased.”
“You…”
“No one instructed you to destroy their clinic, Yu Yan. If you dare to destroy, you should be prepared to compensate; don’t let others look down on you,” Nan Qiao said with a smile.
Now, as long as Yu Yan is unhappy, he is delighted.
Yu Yan trembled with anger, infuriated by this troublesome individual.
The county magistrate observed Yu Yan’s reaction, stating, “Please compensate the Prince for his losses.”
“Of course, you can choose not to compensate. However, you will accompany us. Once you have paid the Prince, you are free to leave,” the magistrate showed no leniency.
Even if they were from the Nanjiang, it didn’t matter to him.
His duty was to safeguard the Prince’s property from harm.
Upon hearing the magistrate’s words, Yu Yan’s face turned an unpleasant shade of green and purple.
She took out the silver notes and handed over the entire sum.
Su Yu glanced at the money, then immediately handed ten thousand taels to Nan Qiao’s companions, even giving Yuan Bao his share.
The remaining five thousand taels were all given to Nan Qiao.
Nan Qiao, holding the compensation from Yu Yan, was in high spirits.
“Thank you, Brother Yu.”
“Why be so polite with me?”
Yu Yan, seeing her money in Nan Qiao’s hands, reached out to take it back but was stopped by Su Yu, “What are you trying to do?”
“He is my son, so it’s only natural for the money to come to me.” The thought of her money being spent by Nan Qiao left her feeling extremely distressed.
