Lingquan Space: Fortunate Wife of a Farmer’s Family Chapter 99

Chapter 99: A Pricey Dowry

Having glanced at the people consumed by jealousy and madness, Wang Jinhe shrugged his shoulders. She wondered how these people would react now, especially Jiang Shi, whose eyes were burning with envy.

She had never seen a man do such a thing. He had given an extravagant dowry for a woman of questionable reputation.

Just a few items taken from here would be enough to provide a regular family with food and clothing for several years. Yet, all of it was being presented to Wang Jinhe’s family.

But the display was far from over. The items kept pouring out, including red fox fur, white ermine, and various precious furs they had never seen before.

Upon seeing these things, the people who had come to witness the spectacle instantly realized that they themselves were the real laughingstocks. They had become the biggest jokes.

All the onlookers were now consumed with jealousy. They couldn’t understand why this family was receiving so many valuable items.

However, when Su Yu revealed the dowry, the envious gazes of the people turned even redder.

“The dowry consists of 99,999 taels of gold.”

Wang Da Gui and his wife stared at Su Yu, their mouths twitching. They were rendered speechless. What exactly did this guy have in mind?

The abundant gold in the dowry seemed like an invitation for thieves to Wang Jinhe, who was concerned about potential thefts.

Wang Jinhe regarded Su Yu with a skeptical and bewildered gaze. She felt like she was dealing with someone clueless. She thought that she shouldn’t have let him handle things however he wanted. Look what happened when she allowed him to handle things freely—everything was taken to an extreme.

Wang Jinhe approached Su Yu, her brow furrowing. “What are you doing?”

“Preparing the dowry,” Su Yu replied nonchalantly.

Wang Jinhe stared at him, baffled by his lack of reaction and his nonchalant attitude. She took a deep breath and asked, “Are you suggesting that my family’s affairs are not enough for you? Is that why you’re preparing more?”

“No, with me here, who would dare to have ill intentions?” Su Yu answered, looking at Wang Jinhe with utter seriousness.

He wanted these people to understand that Wang Jinhe was the true treasure, and they were nothing. Su Yu’s unwavering determination made Wang Jinhe realize what he was thinking. Well, as long as he was happy.

Meanwhile, Jiang Shi, already agitated by the unfamiliar items, now completely lost her mind upon seeing Su Yu bring out nearly a million taels of silver.

“I think you’re all crazy, aren’t you? For the sake of a woman of questionable reputation, and an immodest woman, you’re willing to spend your entire fortune as a dowry,” Jiang Shi declared, unable to filter her words.

Su Yu looked at Jiang Shi with a mocking tone and said, “I have more money than I can spend. I could provide for my son and Wife out as much as I want and still have enough to  spend to kill a bunch of people. Today, I’m in a good mood, so I won’t argue with you. But if you cross the line after today, you can try and see if I still give you a friendly face. When I get involved, no one can stop me.”

“Just like the day I used silver to punish someone. Oh, right, let me remind you. My brother, despite being a fourth-ranked official, knows many influential people. If you want to enter the big prison, you can continue to provoke me and try. Of course, you can also try provoking my wife.”

“She may be kind and not as confrontational as I am. But I’m not that kind of person. I’ve seen everything—pirates, bandits, I’ve seen blood when I was injured. If you don’t believe me, try it for yourself.”

Su Yu’s words left Jiang Shi and her group in complete shock.

He looked at the bewildered crowd and asked, “What’s the matter? Don’t want to leave yet? Do you want to stay here and give me an opportunity to act?”

As Su Yu finished speaking, all the people scattered and fled. Watching them all run away, only Jiang Shi and Luo Shi remained.

Luo Shi still remembered the humiliation of being injured by Su Yu and compensated with ten taels of silver, which were all thrown as copper coins at her.

“Wang Jinhe, what right do you have to receive such generosity as a country girl?” Luo Shi glared at Wang Jinhe, clenching her teeth.

Wang Jinhe furrowed her brow and replied seriously, “I can’t help it, Su Yu has too much money, and he just wants to spend it on me. What can I do? Does that make you mad?”

Su Yu thought carefully. If it were his wealth, it might indeed lead to inflation. As for whether this person was angry or not, he couldn’t be sure.

Su Yu continued, “What’s the matter? Are you jealous? The person you once forced to the brink of death can now enjoy such generosity. Besides that crane-tailed scholar son, you have nothing. Even  your husband doesn’t treat you well, right?”

“That’s right, your son doesn’t want to see you, and your husband treats you badly. Why do you think you have the nerve to talk about me here?” Wang Jinhe said with a half-smile.

Luo Shi turned pale with anger, trembling as she pointed at Wang Jinhe.

She couldn’t believe that Wang Jinhe would dare to talk to her like this.

“She takes pride in her son, right? How could her son not treat her well?” Su Yu curiously asked.

Luo Shi’s face turned red with anger. She couldn’t utter a word in response to Su Yu’s comments.

“Because of her personality, she’s always arguing at home. If it’s not that, then she’s telling her son that he must become an official and must not be surpassed by anyone. She insists on making their family live a better life. If you hear these things every day, how would you feel, and would you still want a mother like that?” Wang Jinhe raised an eyebrow and asked Su Yu.

Su Yu shook his head decisively, saying, “I wouldn’t.”

What use was a mother like that? If they didn’t strive for a better life themselves and expected their son to do it all, that was absurd.

“As for why her husband isn’t treating her well, it’s entirely because of her own actions. She argues every day, and as soon as something goes wrong, she starts cursing. Which man can put up with such a person?” Wang Jinhe shrugged, indicating that she was also helpless in this situation.

Su Yu cleared his throat. If he were her husband, he definitely wouldn’t say more than a few words to her. Talking more would be nauseating.

Wang Jinhe looked at Su Yu and asked, “Do you think this person will come to our house and start cursing in the future?”

“Not likely, right?” Su Yu replied.

“Actually, it’s very likely. We’ve had such an incident four years ago. She chased us down to our doorstep and cursed for a full two months. Afterward, for some reason, she finally stopped cursing,” Wang Jinhe said with a smirk.

Su Yu felt a pang of sympathy hearing this.

“Let’s go back. If she dares to come to our doorstep to cause trouble this time, she can give my wrath a try,” Su Yu warned, giving the other woman a cold look.

One sentence made Luo Shi’s scalp tingle, but she couldn’t bear to let Wang Jinhe off the hook, especially after she had said bad things about her.

“Jinhe, do you think you can handle all of this? Can you afford these betrothal gifts? Do you have what it takes for a dowry?” Luo Shi sneered, looking at Wang Jinhe with resentment.

“That’s something you don’t need to worry about. We’ll find out in the future,” Wang Jinhe replied coolly.
