Zhang Zhiqing: “…But you can’t be on call 24/7, wait, your boss wouldn’t have a crush on you and be trying to keep you, would he? He must! You’re so beautiful, old men are definitely tempted!”
Shen Mi: “My boss is only in his twenties.”
“Twenty… twenty, full of youthful vigor, even easier to be attracted to your beauty. Even I like you, let alone a man? Mimi, tell me the truth, were you seduced?”
Shen Mi: “No.”
Zhang Zhiqing: “I believe you.”
Shen Mi smiled: “Alright, Miss, what are your orders?”
“It’s my uncle again! So annoying, he insists I go work for him. I have enough money in my account to last a lifetime, why would I need to work? But…”
“But if you don’t work, the money in your account will be frozen.”
“Wuwuwu, Mimi, you understand me.”
“Do you want to come with me so I can get you to slack off?”
“I’ll give you all my salary! No, double!”
“No, I can’t quit.”
“My uncle’s company has great benefits, think about it again.”
Shen Mi: “Not considering it.” There are many financial companies with good benefits, in terms of development prospects, no company in China can compete with Ruixing.
“Fine, fine, then I’ll ask you when I don’t understand something, right? You know, I dropped out of college in my sophomore year, my resume is just gilded with money, it looks good but is useless.”
“Okay.” Shen Mi looked down at her watch, “Qingqing, I can’t talk anymore, I have something to do later.”
“Okay, okay! See you in Suicheng next month!”
“Okay.”
It was already 10:30 pm, still had to work overtime with the boss. I don’t know how those secretaries find time to date. Being at the beck and call of the boss 24/7, forget dating, it’s probably hard to even meet a boyfriend.
Xie Rongzhu had been entertaining guests all day and hadn’t eaten much. The hotel’s catering department was already closed, so Shen Mi ordered him some late-night snacks.
While waiting for the food, Shen Mi washed her hair and accidentally got her collar wet. She decided to take a shower as well.
Halfway through drying her hair, the doorbell rang.
“Miss Shen, your delivery is downstairs. I called you but you didn’t answer, so I brought it up for you.”
“Sorry, I didn’t hear it. Thank you.”
This Cantonese restaurant didn’t do deliveries, so Shen Mi had used a delivery service. She carried the food and knocked on the door next door.
“Boss, want to eat something?”
Xie Rongzhu stepped aside, letting her into his room.
As they passed each other, he smelled her light woody fragrance. As they entered the room, Xie Rongzhu asked, “What perfume are you using?”
Shen Mi thought of the previous secretary who was fired for using her favorite perfume, and her heart started to race.
She put down the food box, grabbed a handful of her hair and handed it to him: “It’s the scent from the shampoo, you can smell it if you don’t believe me.”
Losing her job was just a moment away. Shen Mi held her breath in nervousness, her eyes sincere and full of expectation.
Two seconds of silence.
Xie Rongzhu leaned down and didn’t smell her hair in her hand. Instead, he leaned closer and sniffed the top of her head.
The distance between them suddenly narrowed, the man’s fiery temperature baking Shen Mi to the point of numbness. But she didn’t avoid him, standing stiffly in place, waiting for his judgment.
Xie Rongzhuo smelled good, like the thin frost on the branches of a fir tree in early winter, faint and barely perceptible yet with a strong presence that couldn’t be ignored.
The air in the room became thin, Shen Mi felt a little short of breath and discreetly took a deep breath.
Xie Rongzhuo noticed and straightened up.
Shen Mi could feel the gaze from above, lowered her head and silently awaited the verdict.
Xie Rongzhuo remained unresponsive, Shen Mi felt anxious and raised her eyes to meet his gaze tentatively.
Xie Rongzhuo didn’t look away, staring straight at her.
The hotel room was quiet, the dazzling neon lights outside flowed across the dark night sky, the figures of young men and women intertwined, blending with the lights.
“Right?”
Shen Mi broke the eerie silence, raising her face to carefully observe Xie Rongzhuo’s expression.
Xie Rongzhuo’s gaze through his glasses pressed down on her, she couldn’t tell if he believed her or not.
Under his death stare, Shen Mi felt like she might be in trouble.
Could it be the scent of the body wash?
She only brought one set of toiletries on this business trip, and she used the free samples.
Shen Mi decided to blame the brand: “Boss, you use this brand too, we smell the same.”
Xie Rongzhuo lowered his eyelids, the warm light illuminated his face, revealing a cool white complexion. Such a flawless man, at this moment Shen Mi could see the emotions in his eyes, restraint…struggle.
Those eyes were like hooks, stirring up ripples in her heart.
Just when Shen Mi was about to give in and confess that she had used hair conditioner,
“Someone with a boyfriend, doesn’t need to avoid suspicion, right?” Xie Rongzhuo asked calmly.
Boyfriend?
Oh right, she had lied about having a boyfriend at the company that day, and Xie Rongzhuo happened to hear it.
Anyone could misunderstand her having a partner, but not Xie Rongzhuo. It would directly affect her promotion and salary increase.
Shen Mi met Xie Rongzhuo’s gaze and explained solemnly: “Boss, I don’t have a boyfriend. I said that to avoid trouble that day, I’ve actually always been single.”
Neon lights surged outside the window, Xie Rongzhuo’s eyelashes flickered slightly.
He was indeed concerned.
Shen Mi assured him: “And I have no plans to date for the next ten years, I don’t plan to get married in this lifetime.”
Xie Rongzhuo: “…”
