Before going to bed that night, Shen Mi opened her master’s WeChat profile and told her about the situation.
Shen Mi: Is this the reward for selflessly dedicating oneself to work?
The “something” in the way Xie Rongzhuo looked at her was actually “warmth”; the boss’s attitude towards her had become more humane, no longer holding onto that coldness.
Yes, holding onto it.
Ever since the day she bumped into Xie Rongzhuo at the restroom door, Shen Mi felt like he had been holding his breath. Whenever he faced her, his gaze seemed to be restrained and unspoken.
Her master, as always, was patient and waited quietly for her to finish describing everything.
dsm: Don’t you like it?
Shen Mi: It’s not a matter of liking or not liking, it’s just a little scary.
dsm: How so?
Shen Mi: It’s mainly because I feel like my boss…
dsm: Hmm?
Shen Mi: Is quite sneaky.
dsm: …
After chatting with her master for a while, Shen Mi logged into her game and went to the trading area to sell some of the cheap medicines she had made.
It wasn’t that she was so poor she couldn’t make ends meet, she was just cheap.
While others played games for entertainment and leisure, Shen Mi played games to make money. She was a “accompany play,”(escorted gamer), accumulating skins and appearances, which was essentially a form of investment.
It was only a matter of time before mobile games siphoned off players from PC games. In a few years, the player base would likely plummet. With a few sets of skins in her inventory that were steadily increasing in value, Shen Mi planned to sell them while they were hot and then quit the game entirely.
These sets of skins had cost her two thousand, and now she could sell them for at least thirty thousand.
Shen Mi had also managed to snag some limited-edition skins in the past. Once she sold this batch of goods, combined with her salary from the past two months, she would have about fifty thousand in savings.
Having always been on the move, Shen Mi’s dream was to save up enough money to buy a small house of her own and settle down. Fifty thousand wouldn’t be enough for a down payment, but if she worked hard, after three years she could apply to the company for a discounted housing scheme.
Shen Mi shouted out in the world chat for a few minutes before a scalper approached her, asking if she would be willing to sell her skins for thirty-five thousand in one go.
Shen Mi added the scalper as a friend. Once the scalper saw the guild she belonged to, he readily agreed to have her”Mysterious Little Noob,”(the name of her main account) vouch for the deal, offering to pay upfront.
Shen Mi was about to take a screenshot of the chat and send it to her master, but accidentally clicked on the video call button next to it.
Just as she was about to hang up, the screen froze for a moment, followed by a blurry image.
“Hmm?”
A man’s voice.
Shen Mi’s heart clenched, and even her breathing stopped.
——My incredibly beautiful master is actually a (demon, monster)
There are many handsome male voices online using voice changers, but Shen Mi had never heard such a genuinely sexy baritone.
The drawn-out ending of the voice held a hint of laziness, as if he was lying down. His voice was a bit hoarse, like he was whispering in her ear.
The night was quiet, and the camera was pitch black. The man was lying in bed, his lazy and relaxed voice making the atmosphere extremely suggestive.
“Shen Mi’s ears burned: “Master, are you a man?”
She asked a stupid question.
It was already impolite to suddenly video call in the middle of the night without a sound, and on top of that, she was inexplicably nervous, so she stammered, “I, I, I’ll hang up first.”
After hanging up the video call, Shen Mi took a while to come back to her senses.
Once, during a double-ranked match, the Master’s mic suddenly lit up, and Shen Mi heard a cold, domineering female voice. So until today, Shen Mi had always guessed that the Master was a cool and domineering career woman.
Plus, he’d been playing a female character for the past few years, and his aesthetic was very high, so, he didn’t seem like a straight man at all.
Thinking about how she’d been typing and flirting with this man all day.
Shen Mi’s cheeks flushed red.
… It’s okay, we won’t ever meet anyway!
Recalling those few heart-stopping seconds, Shen Mi could only come to one conclusion.”
“——The Master’s voice is so nice.”
Hearing that the Master was already asleep, Shen Mi felt embarrassed to disturb him further and completed the transaction with Huang Niu through the Taobao link.
She successfully saved her first investment return.
The next morning.
Shen Mi pulled her suitcase and prepared to go to the opposite room to help Xie Rongzhuo pack. She didn’t have much stuff, mostly the 18 items Xie Rongzhuo bought for her a few days ago. Xie Rongzhuo’s luggage was more difficult to pack, it was a big project that even included bedsheets and pillows.
Pushing open the door, the door opposite also opened, and Xie Rongzhuo had already packed his luggage and was pushing his suitcase out.
“Boss, morning.” Shen Mi was a little surprised that he would pack the bedsheets himself.
Xie Rongzhuo’s eyelids drooped slightly, and the pair of pitch-black eyes behind his glasses were dotted with faint lights, and Shen Mi’s face was reflected in them.
He seemed to be waiting for her to continue saying something, or asking something.
Their eyes met, and Shen Mi’s brain raced.
What should she say?
What should she ask?
She couldn’t think of anything important that she needed to report to him this morning.
Silence hung in the air for a few seconds before Xie Rongzhuo’s phone rang.
He looked away, “Morning.” Then, he answered the call and walked towards the elevator.
He was back to his usual cold and emotionless self.
Author’s Note:
You just said “Mm-hmm.” (mm-hmm), it’s normal that he didn’t understand, don’t be angry, don’t be angry.
