Lin Suisui’s mind cleared quickly, and she immediately chased after him, trying to plead: “Wait, you can’t…”
He was truly a lovesick fool; the female lead hadn’t even done anything, and he was already going with her.
Before she could touch Pei Zhiheng, a sharp pain suddenly shot through her abdomen. Looking down, she saw bright red blood gushing out. The soldier pulled out the knife, and she collapsed to the ground, unconscious.
“Host, host…”
The girl lazily turned over, murmuring, “Don’t call me, your host is dead.”
“Host, wake up.”
007’s efforts weren’t in vain; after calling out a few times, its host finally sat up with a jolt.
Lin Suisui’s head was still buzzing. Looking at the familiar scenery around her, she was completely bewildered.
“What’s going on? Didn’t I die? Or am I already in hell?” She said, then felt a wave of sadness. “No way, even though I didn’t have any merit, I did suffer. I shouldn’t have to go to such a terrifying place after death, right?”
007: “Host, you won’t die. If you unfortunately die during the mission, you will be randomly returned to a mission point.”
Lin Suisui: “…I’d rather have just died.”
The more she thought about it, the angrier she became: “Do I have to go save that brainless lovesick fool again?”
In her opinion, Pei Zhiheng was undoubtedly in the late stages of lovesickness. The woman hadn’t even done anything, and he was already smitten, and he actually let himself be cuffed. It was a waste of her efforts saving him.
Perhaps detecting that the host’s mood wasn’t very good, 007 explained: “Host, the male lead, Pei Zhiheng, is currently bound by his character setting. Many of his actions are involuntary. The system has detected a preliminary breakthrough in his character’s consciousness. The male lead did not fall in love with Yin Manlin at first sight as in the original work. Once his consciousness awakens further, his actions will no longer be controlled. Please, host, keep up the good work.”
In other words, the lovesick fool’s actions just now weren’t his own, but controlled by his character setting?
Thinking of this, Lin Suisui couldn’t help but feel a pang of heartache. She had finally managed to reform the lovesick fool, allowing him to make a breakthrough. Now, everything had to start over.
Lin Suisui expertly found the bushes. The young man was in the same position, lying there quietly.
She knelt down, took out clean gauze, and treated Pei Zhiheng’s wounds. After looking at him for a few moments, she left.
The lovesick fool’s injury happened before she transmigrated, indicating that this plot point existed in the original work, so there was no need for her to interfere. Pei Zhiheng would be fine in the end anyway. She might as well worry about herself.
But now that she couldn’t approach Pei Zhiheng, what should she do?
It was truly a headache. She was originally a college student who loved to slack off, yet she was chosen to do this kind of thing.
The current plot should be that the original owner was tricked by her sister, Lin Nuo, into going for an outing, but was deliberately abandoned and fainted in the forest alone. In the original work, the original owner was saved by Yin Manlin, who passed by two days later, when she was dying, and thus fell in love with her at first sight.
Lin Suisui clapped her hands and stood up, lighting an oil lamp. The surroundings suddenly brightened, revealing a swampy area with tangled vines.
Relying on the fresh memories that had just been transmitted into her mind, she followed the original owner’s path back. The road wasn’t far; it would take about two hours to reach her destination.
She hurried, her legs aching to the point of numbness, before a faint light appeared in front of her.
The servant guarding the door was precisely the accomplice who had abandoned the original owner in the woods that day. The well-dressed man from a few hours ago was now pale and disheveled, standing before her. He didn’t know whether he was more surprised or terrified.
Miss Second was usually weak and incompetent. If she had encountered wild animals in the woods, she would have surely lost her life.
The servant couldn’t tell whether the person in front of him was a human or a ghost…
“Second, Second Miss.” He blurted out before his brain could catch up.
Lin Suisui didn’t mind; the memories transmitted by the system only contained useful information. For such an insignificant passerby, she only glanced at him and moved on.
The girl nodded slightly, her attention entirely on the sounds coming from the house nearby.
“Alas, my poor sister, how could she die outside like this?”
The hall was draped in white cloth, and wreaths were neatly arranged. An old man and a young woman knelt on the ground, wiping their faces with handkerchiefs, but not a single tear appeared.
Song Ninghua stared blankly at the man’s shoulder, her eyes swollen from crying, her voice hoarse and unable to speak, but tears still flowed uncontrollably from her eyes.
“It’s so lively, what are you all doing?”
The girl’s crisp voice suddenly came from behind. Everyone turned their heads sharply, their expressions a mixture of surprise and shock.
Lin Suisui scanned the “funeral hall,” feeling amused:
“You don’t have to rush to burn incense for me. I might still be alive when your graves are overgrown with grass.”
“Suisui!”
Song Ninghua hugged her tightly for a while before letting go. The look of joy and sorrow at getting her back, the unintentional display of vulnerability, made Lin Suisui think of her own mother, almost causing her to cry along with her.
“Mother, I didn’t…”
Before she could finish her comforting words, she was interrupted:
“Suisui is back! I knew it, our Suisui is blessed and will be fine.”
The old woman concealed the anger she had inadvertently revealed when she looked at Lin Suisui, quickly changing to a cheerful expression. Her already old face was further contorted by a forced smile, the wrinkles crowding together, making her look even more haggard.
In contrast, Lin Nuo was much more straightforward, not concealing her disappointment and displeasure:
“You shameless wretch, how dare you come back? I clearly…”
Before she could finish, she felt a warning gaze fall upon her, and Lin Nuo immediately shut her mouth, swallowing the rest of her words.
