Chapter 53 Fainting
Gu Ye’s reminder made Shen Zhiyu realize that her taste buds had changed. But she didn’t think much of it, “I never thought sour things were delicious before, but after eating the jujubes you picked, I realized that sour things are quite delicious.” That was true.
Seeing her love for them, Gu Ye decided to pick some for her next time he saw them. The jujube trees in the back mountain didn’t belong to the collective, nor were they planted by any individual villager. They were like mushrooms that grew after the rain, anyone could pick some. Back when they were training in the wild, they would pick wild fruits to eat when their rations ran out. Over time, he could tell which fruits in the mountains were edible and which were not. The next morning, Shen Zhiyu got up with Gu Ye. They had white steamed buns from the canteen for breakfast.
They ate them with the pickled vegetables Chen Cuijuan had made, and stir-fried greens. He was going to fry an egg, but Shen Zhiyu had inexplicably lost her appetite for eggs lately, she couldn’t even stand the smell. Gu Ye didn’t make it, this simple breakfast was quite refreshing. After breakfast, they packed up and went out together. Gu Ye first sent her to the school.
This time of morning was the busiest, people were going to the army, going to school, going out to buy groceries, all at this time. Seeing Shen Zhiyu and Gu Ye going out together, everyone greeted them. They were surprised, “Are you going out to do something? You’re up so early.” Shen Zhiyu smiled, “Yes, I have some things to do.” She wasn’t the type to show off, especially when it came to work, something that was related to her own interests.
She didn’t want to announce it to the world until things were settled. Gu Ye agreed with her, and they both tacitly agreed to keep the same line with everyone else. He sent her to the school gate and waited for her to go in before turning to leave. When she entered, Shen Zhiyu was a little nervous. It was the kind of natural nervousness that students felt when they arrived at the school gate and had to talk to the teacher alone. But then she thought, what was she nervous about? She wasn’t a student anymore. She was here to apply for a teaching position! Teacher meeting teacher, what was there to be nervous about? She took a deep breath and looked around the army school. The army elementary school, as the name suggests, was basically for the children of the soldiers stationed here. The school wasn’t big, it was slightly larger than the village schools, but it had the distinct characteristics of this type of school. The whole school gave a feeling of cleanliness and orderliness.
Even the open space in front of the teaching building where the students played was much more level. And there were some exercise equipment in the open space, like single and double bars. She had heard Gu Ye say that the students here had an extra subject compared to ordinary schools – military training. They had to stand at attention, run, and Shen Zhiyu looked at the students coming and going, especially the girls. They were still little sprouts, and as Gu Ye had said, they walked with a particularly upright posture, with square steps, they walked with the wind, heads held high, chests out, they looked energetic and righteous. Then she looked at herself, and suddenly understood why Gu Ye found her walk displeasing. But she couldn’t change her walking posture after all these years. She sighed and strode into the teacher’s office, as Wang Guizhi had said.
As Gu Ye had told her, the assessment was divided into three parts, and she had to pass the first part to proceed to the next. At first, Shen Zhiyu was very nervous. But the interviewer, Teacher Yang Lan, kept smiling and encouraging her. Shen Zhiyu gradually got into the groove, and she became more and more confident. After answering the last question, Shen Zhiyu breathed a sigh of relief. Yang Lan, who was in charge of the interview, smiled and nodded, “That’s it for today, Comrade Shen, you can go back and wait for the notification.” Shen Zhiyu stood up and bowed to Yang Lan, “Okay, thank you, Teacher Yang.” The results came out that day. Wang Guizhi came to tell her.
She was also carrying a bag of dried seaweed, and the smile on her face couldn’t be suppressed, “Xiao Shen, congratulations! You can start working tomorrow, Teacher Yang also praised you, she said that although you’re from the countryside, you’re no worse than the comrades from the city in all aspects.” Although she had already felt confident when she left the school that morning, she couldn’t help but smile when she heard the results, “That’s great, I also want to thank you, sister-in-law, if you hadn’t told me to prepare well, I wouldn’t know what would have happened today.
” She knew it was flattery, but it was still nice to hear. She was about to leave after telling her the results, but Wang Guizhi stayed and told her a lot of things to pay attention to when working at the school. These were things that even Gu Ye didn’t know. Like the relationships between the teachers in the school, and what to pay attention to when she first arrived.
Shen Zhiyu quickly wrote them down. Her job was finally settled. Shen Zhiyu was incredibly excited all evening, and she discussed with Gu Ye that now that she was a working woman, she had to put exercise on hold. “A person’s energy is limited.” “I have to do that thing with you at night, and I have to exercise in the morning, you know my stamina is not good, what if I get tired and collapse on the podium in the middle of class?
” Gu Ye: “……” He had asked her to exercise so that her stamina would improve. But now, hearing her say this, it was as if exercise would harm her, Gu Ye was stuck with a lump in his throat, and he directly dragged her over and gave her a hard pat on the butt.
Shen Zhiyu didn’t care, she was stubborn and unreasonable. She had already found out that out of all the military wives living in the compound, she was the only one who was being forced to exercise by her husband! The other military wives laughed at her.
Thinking about this made Shen Zhiyu grind her teeth in anger. She just refused to go, and Gu Ye had no choice but to put the exercise plan on hold, agreeing to start exercising again during the winter break when she didn’t have to work.
But it’s not clear if it was a case of speaking ill of someone and it coming true. After working for a month, Shen Zhiyu actually fainted at school! It wasn’t in the classroom, but it still scared everyone. They quickly sent her to the army hospital.
