Chapter 88
The doctor, after hearing Wang Mingfang’s words, had a black line running down his forehead, but he still maintained his last bit of patience and continued to explain to her:
“The patient’s family, the embryo cannot be transferred. It has to be removed.”
“Then let it stay in that tube, whatever it’s called. We want this child, we won’t have an abortion.” Wang Mingfang said anxiously.
She had been looking forward to having a grandson for a long time. Now that she was finally pregnant, if she had a miscarriage, she didn’t know how long she would have to wait to hold a grandson.
Seeing that she couldn’t reason with her, the doctor didn’t bother to waste his breath. He looked at Lu Lìdōng, who was standing beside her, and said urgently:
“You’re the patient’s husband, right? The patient is bleeding a lot now, and she’s in danger at any moment. Go pay and get the surgery done quickly.”
Lu Lìdōng was completely indecisive. He habitually looked at his mother, Wang Mingfang. Wang Mingfang kept giving him a wink, meaning to ignore it.
Seeing that the man didn’t move, the doctor lost his patience and said angrily:
“If you waste any more time, the patient will really be in danger. If she dies, how can you have a child? Save her life first. You can have another child later.”
Lu Lìdōng still had some feelings for Yáo Hóngméi. After listening to the doctor’s words, he finally nodded and went to pay.
Although Wang Mingfang was unhappy, there was nothing she could do now. She looked at the doctor and said with a smile:
“Doctor, can you try your best to put the child back in the uterus? After all, it’s a life.”
The doctor knew that he couldn’t explain to this ignorant and foolish woman. He didn’t correct her anymore, just said he would do his best to treat the patient, and then went into the operating room.
Lu Lìdōng, who had paid the fee, quickly returned with the slip. Seeing Wang Mingfang’s unhappy expression, he comforted her:
“Mom, it’s okay. We’re still young. We’ll have children later.”
As they were talking, Lu Lìdōng looked up and saw a familiar female figure. He looked at her a few more times in confusion. When he saw her face clearly, his expression immediately became unnatural.
The girl looked very young, not even eighteen years old. She was about five feet tall and had a very ordinary appearance. Only her chest was particularly well-developed. Because it was too heavy, her body leaned forward slightly.
Soon, the woman noticed Lu Lìdōng. When their eyes met, the girl unconsciously stopped in her tracks.
Seeing the girl holding a test report in her hand, Lu Lìdōng already had a guess. He looked around, quickly walked over, didn’t say anything, reached out to take the test report, looked at the plus sign on it, and his face immediately changed.
The girl couldn’t hold it in anymore. Tears streamed down her face, and she asked anxiously and fearfully with a crying voice:
“Lìdōng ge, what should I do now?”
Lu Lìdōng was clearly flustered. After a moment, he suddenly reached out and pushed the girl away:
“Go back first, go back first. I’ll come find you later.”
Wang Mingfang was very cunning. She could see the relationship between them. She walked over, reached out to take the report from Lu Lìdōng’s hand, looked at it, didn’t panic like Lu Lìdōng, and even showed a hint of joy on her face. She pulled the helpless girl and put the test report in her hand, saying:
“I’m Lìdōng’s mother. Go back first and take good care of yourself. Don’t worry, I’ll make Lìdōng give you an explanation.”
Wang Mingfang’s words seemed to be like a charm. The girl seemed to have found a backbone and nodded.
“Auntie…”
As the three of them were talking, a gentle and pleasant voice suddenly came from behind them. They turned their heads and saw Xia Qingning and Lu Jingzhe walking over with Yingying in their arms.
Wang Mingfang’s face suddenly changed. She couldn’t let Xia Qingning and Lu Jingzhe know about this. She immediately whispered to the girl beside her:
“Go quickly.”
Wang Mingfang’s voice was quite low, and the girl was a little slow to react. When she understood and was about to leave, Xia Qingning had already walked up to them.
“How is your sister-in-law?” Xia Qingning asked. After asking, her gaze fell on the girl standing beside her. She understood everything in her heart, but she still pretended to be confused and asked:
“Who is this? Is she here to see your sister-in-law too?”
Wang Mingfang was a little nervous, afraid that Xia Qingning would discover the truth, but she quickly regained her composure. She lied without hesitation:
“She’s our relative. She came to the hospital to see a doctor and happened to meet us.”
Compared to Wang Mingfang, who was good at disguising herself, Lu Lìdōng and the girl were much more flustered. Especially the girl, she immediately hid the test report behind her, as if she was trying to hide something that didn’t exist.
“A relative? I’ve never seen her before.” Xia Qingning was still confused.
“A distant relative.” Wang Mingfang forced a smile and said, then quickly added: “From the He family.”
“Oh…” Xia Qingning deliberately prolonged her tone, then looked at Lu Lìdōng, who was standing beside her.
Lu Lìdōng was already guilty. When she looked at him, he was even more flustered. He quickly nodded in agreement:
“Yeah, yeah, she’s a relative from the He family.”
He completely forgot that he was from the Lu family and had no connection to the He family. How could he know any distant relatives?
“Little…” Wang Mingfang was about to call the girl’s name, but she suddenly choked. She realized that she didn’t even know her name. She quickly changed her words:
“Girl, we have something to do at home now, so we won’t invite you to eat at our house. Go back first. Remember what Auntie said, eat more and your body will get better.”
The girl was already nervous. Hearing Wang Mingfang’s words, she was relieved. She quickly nodded in agreement, then turned and walked out.
Xia Qingning watched the girl walk away, didn’t expose the mother and son, and didn’t dwell on the issue. Instead, she asked:
“How is your sister-in-law now? What did the doctor say?”
“Not good.” Lu Lìdōng said with a sullen face: “It’s an ectopic pregnancy. The child won’t make it, and the adult is in danger too. They’re operating on her now.”
This was something Xia Qingning had expected, so she wasn’t too surprised. Lu Jingzhe, who was holding the child, clearly paused for a moment. He hadn’t expected it to be so serious.
“Dad…”
Yingying, who was in Lu Jingzhe’s arms, called out to Lu Lìdōng in a childish voice.
Perhaps she had been too scared, and seeing a loved one, she wanted to find a sense of security. The little girl turned around, stretched out her arms, and wanted Lu Lìdōng to hold her.
Lu Lìdōng didn’t go to hug her. He even seemed impatient, and he leaned against the wall as if he was tired.
Wang Mingfang reached out to take her, but Lu Jingzhe said in a deep voice:
“No need.” He hugged Yingying and gently patted her back, comforting her.
Yingying’s face was so obviously injured that the mother and son naturally saw it, but they didn’t show any concern. They didn’t even ask a single question.
Just then, a doctor’s anxious voice came from behind them:
“Yáo Hóngméi, Yáo Hóngméi’s family…”
