Chapter 10 – A Second Encounter

Wang Lin quickly tugged at him.

“No, bro, we’re almost out of time to catch our bus. If we go over there, we won’t make it!”

“Oh right, bro, didn’t you get engaged to Jiang Xiaolin? Now they’ve switched the girl—what are you gonna do?”

Xiao Jingyan shot him a frown.

“If we miss this one, we’ll catch the next. Also, who said I was engaged to Jiang Xiaolin?

I came because of Uncle Jiang. Whoever he recognizes as his daughter, I’ll recognize as well.”

Wang Lin’s eyes lit up.

“So that girl just now—”

Xiao Jingyan quickly coughed, cutting him off.

“Enough. Stop talking nonsense. Didn’t you say we’re in a hurry?

When we pass by the station, let’s swing by that way and check out what’s happening. It won’t delay us much.”

Wang Lin chuckled and nudged him with his shoulder.

“The girl Uncle Jiang brought back is way prettier than Jiang Xiaolin. Bro, you—”

Xiao Jingyan gave him a cold glare.

“If I hear you gossiping again about things that don’t concern you, I’ll kick your ass. Move it!”

Meanwhile, Jiang Niannian was leading the charge on her bicycle, with the little mutt guiding her left and right through the alleys until they arrived at a secluded courtyard.

[Woof woof! They’re still here—still playing cards!]

Niannian was speechless for a moment. She parked her bicycle outside the yard and gestured for silence to those following her.

Behind her, Liu Aiguo and Zhao Youwei led their team to hide behind the courtyard walls.

Niannian stepped forward to knock on the door. From inside, the voice sounded impatient and suspicious.

“Who is it?”

Niannian cleared her throat and adjusted her voice to sound gentler.

“Excuse me, is this Liu Erge’s house?”

The four men playing cards inside immediately paused mid-play. Their eyes lit up.

“What a sweet voice—who’s this little girl looking for?”

“Liu Mazi, is it you?”

“Liu Erge, oooh~ can’t take it, hurry, go open the door!”

Liu Mazi, the one who had lost money at cards and turned to robbery, stood up curiously. He tossed his cards on the table.

“No peeking at my cards!”

Then he opened the door—only to see a pretty young woman standing there. Those sparkling eyes were stunning at first glance… but he didn’t recognize her.

“You… who are you looking for?”

Niannian smiled sweetly.

“Liu Erge, you don’t recognize me? I was the one who… caught you in the alley yesterday when you robbed someone!”

SMACK!

As she spoke, she gave him a resounding slap across the face.

He was still confused at first, but once her words sank in—and the slap hit—his anger exploded.

“You dare hit me?!”

Niannian kicked him squarely in the chest and stepped through the doorway, hands on her hips.

“With two hands and two legs, you don’t think of working honestly—instead you rely on shady crimes. What the hell are you?!”

As soon as she said it, she realized—she had just reunited with her birth parents and promised to act like a well-behaved girl, and now she had already broken the act in less than half a day.

She quickly cleared her throat, stepped aside, and let the officers do their job.

Jiang Weiguo watched all of this and thought—this fiery energy was exactly like his wife’s.

After giving birth to twins back in the day, his wife’s personality completely changed—fiery and fierce. She even fought with the old household a few times before finally splitting off on their own.

That slap and kick, followed by the bold scolding—Niannian was truly her daughter.

From outside the alley, Xiao Jingyan and Wang Lin had seen the whole scene. With a long-legged push, they pedaled their bicycles past the alley, pretending not to stop.
