Jiang Weiguo brought his youngest son inside to eat. It was already past their usual mealtime, and Wang Yingxiu had returned to the room first and called Jiang Niannian to come with her.
After the girls had left, Jiang Weiguo patiently advised his youngest son:
“Later, you should apologize to your mom and your sister.
Your mom still loves you. From now on, you’re not allowed to take money from home—your mom and I work hard to earn it.
Also, stop saying things like you don’t want your sister back. She’s your biological sister. Xiaolin isn’t.
Even though she lived with us for 18 years, she’s not truly your sister. Got it?”
Jiang Xiaolu nodded while shoveling rice into his mouth, looking like a muddy little monkey.
“Got it, got it.”
Inside the room, Wang Yingxiu was talking to Jiang Niannian. She took out a silver bracelet with a small jade gourd embedded in it. The silver had blackened over time, but the jade still looked bright green.
“This is your grandma’s family heirloom. Back then, I even tried dripping blood on it to see if it would open a space or something, but nothing happened. It might just be a token.
I don’t remember much about my past life—don’t even know who I really was. All I know is that I was sent to the countryside in 1962 and married your father. It seemed like something happened to my family, but I don’t know the details.
Anyway, life was tough. I only found this again today while rummaging through boxes. Xiaolin thought it was ugly and didn’t want it.
Good thing too. I’m giving this to you. Keep it safe.”
Jiang Niannian found her mom absolutely adorable—she had actually tried dripping blood on the bracelet to see if it would open a space!
“Honestly, it’s not that pretty, but Mom, I gotta hand it to you—did you try anything else too?”
Thinking of her past antics made Wang Yingxiu chuckle. She leaned in and whispered to her daughter:
“I panicked back then! I’d read a few novels and thought transmigration always came with a space or system.
I pricked all ten fingers and tried dripping blood on everything. Nothing worked—not a damn thing!”
Jiang Niannian burst out laughing—her mom was just too cute.
“Well, since you already tried it, I won’t.”
Wang Yingxiu wasn’t annoyed at being laughed at. She let out a humph and handed her a needle.
“Try it anyway—maybe you’ll open it!”
Jiang Niannian found the idea ridiculous.
“Mom, you already tried, and it didn’t work. We share the same bloodline, so if you couldn’t, I can’t either. Besides, pricking your finger hurts!”
But Wang Yingxiu wasn’t ready to give up. Why didn’t her transmigration come with a golden finger?
“Just try it—what if it works for you?
You even brought your ability to understand animals with you!”
Jiang Niannian was speechless. She didn’t even have a space in her past life.
“Mom, just give it a rest. I’m not pricking myself. It hurts.
Besides, look at the bracelet—it doesn’t even look like something with space magic!”
Wang Yingxiu sighed.
“Alright, alright, just wear it.
Once we start making money, let’s buy and stockpile some gold. Tomorrow I’m planning to go buy some chickens. We’ll raise chickens, ducks, and geese.
By winter, we’ll make a fortune.”
“Mom, you’re planning to sell fish and poultry in the city during the New Year?”
Wang Yingxiu nodded.
“I’ve got it all planned out. We used to secretly make a little profit, but your dad wouldn’t allow it.
He’s a retired soldier—hates anything that smells like speculation or profiteering. Always watching closely.
But policies have changed now. I’ll lease a mountainside just for raising poultry.
We’ll need people to watch over it though. Good thing you can talk to animals. Just let the chickens, ducks, and geese elect a team leader to manage themselves—it’ll save us so much effort!”
Jiang Niannian gave her mom a big thumbs-up.
“Amazing. Seriously!
You’ve just achieved animal self-governance!”
Wang Yingxiu chuckled and sighed.
“Your brother… I don’t know what to say.
He’s somehow learned to sneak money from home and give it away.”
“He already stole ten yuan once. Before that, I noticed bits missing—like a few cents here and there.
When Jiang Xiaolin left, she even took the couple hundred yuan I left out in the open.
I raised her for 18 years. I’m really heartbroken.”
As she spoke, they heard movement outside.
“Your brother’s coming to apologize. You head back now.
Give it a try—maybe the space will open. If not, it’s only two drops of blood.”
Jiang Niannian put on the bracelet but had no intention of bleeding on it. If it were possible to open a space, her mom would’ve already done it.
She stepped off the bed and went out, only to see the brat standing at the door. When he saw her, he glared.
She shot him a fierce look in return and didn’t bother arguing.
At the doorway, she heard him wailing:
“Mom, I was wrong! I won’t run away from home ever again! Please forgive me—I’ll behave from now on!”
Wang Yingxiu shouted: “You’re wrong? What did you do wrong? Say it!”
Jiang Xiaolu was silent for a while before answering:
“I shouldn’t have gone to Third Aunt’s place. I shouldn’t have taken money from home. I shouldn’t have badmouthed my sister.
Mom, I know I was wrong. Please let me come back!”
Jiang Niannian smirked. At least he had some self-awareness.
After washing up, she remembered that a mix of vinegar and salt in a 1:1 ratio could clean the black tarnish off silver.
She went to the kitchen, mixed the solution, and soaked the bracelet in it. Sure enough, the longer it soaked, the shinier it got.
After a few rounds of wiping and soaking, the once pitch-black bracelet gleamed again.
Now it looked much better on her wrist.
She walked outside with it on and saw Jiang Xiaolu peeing.
He hurriedly pulled up his pants when he saw her come out of the kitchen.
“What are you staring at? Uh, do you know where my sister lives in the city?”
Jiang Niannian raised an eyebrow.
“Why are you asking? Don’t tell me—you’re planning to go find her?”
Jiang Xiaolu instantly denied it.
“Of course not! Don’t talk nonsense—I was just asking!”
Jiang Niannian: “Oh, then I’m not telling you.”
Jiang Xiaolu’s cheeks puffed up in anger.
As Jiang Niannian turned to leave, he suddenly rushed up from behind and shoved her hard to the ground.
Jiang Niannian: Damn it!
“Dahei!”
Dahei’s eyes flashed green, and in a flash, he charged forward, pinning Jiang Xiaolu—who was still running—straight to the ground.
“Ahhh! Help! The dog’s biting me! Ahhhhh!”
The whole Jiang family was startled by the commotion.
“What’s going on?!”
“Dad! Mom! Big Brother! Save me! This dog’s going to kill me!”
Wang Yingxiu shouted, “Dahei! Get off!”
But Dahei only obeyed Jiang Niannian. He didn’t budge.
Jiang Weiguo rushed over and asked anxiously:
“Niannian, what happened? Why did Dahei attack someone?!”
Jiang Niannian looked at her scratched, bleeding hand, the blood dripping onto her freshly cleaned bracelet, and said angrily:
“He asked me for Jiang Xiaolin’s city address. I refused. Then he pushed me when I wasn’t looking.
Dahei was protecting me—that’s why he tackled him.
Dahei, come back!”
As Dahei turned to leave, he slapped Jiang Xiaolu with his paw—he really couldn’t stand bratty kids.
