Chapter 3 – She’s the Real Daughter
No one else could understand it, but what Big Yellow Dog was really saying was:
[The village chief is here! Why isn’t anyone coming out to greet him?]
Big Yellow Dog was ready to enjoy the show. He lay down in the Jiang family’s courtyard, waiting for the drama to unfold.
Jiang Dafu shook his head.
“I don’t know either. Oh right—Dad, about that… wasn’t our sister already gone?
Since she’s not our biological daughter, maybe we should find our real daughter and bring her back—”
Before he could finish his sentence, Jiang Niannian had already pushed open the door and stepped out.
As for Jiang Dagui inside the room—he had tried to pull Jiang Niannian in, but she quickly ran out of patience. She grabbed his wrist and twisted it. Under his shocked, terrified, and utterly disbelieving gaze, she threw him over her shoulder with a heavy thud.
Now, he was lying on the ground, unable to get up for quite some time.
Jiang Niannian stepped out of the room and stood in the courtyard, looking at the middle-aged man standing in front of the main house.
“My name is Jiang Niannian. Jiang Xiaolin said she’s not your biological daughter and that she went to find my adoptive parents.
She said I’m your real daughter. My adoptive parents said the same. So I came here to take a look.
If your family can accept me, I’ll stay. If not, I’ll leave.”
She wasn’t here to beg. She came to see for herself. If it didn’t work out, she’d just go. After all, these people were strangers to her.
Jiang Weiguo stood stunned and speechless in place, staring at Jiang Niannian as she came out of the east wing. He couldn’t process it right away.
“Aiyoo, aiyoo—it hurts! Big Brother, come help me up. I think my back’s broken… that girl’s strength is no joke!”
Jiang Dafu leaned back slightly, glanced at his younger brother lying in the room, shook his head, and didn’t move.
Jiang Weiguo finally came to his senses, rubbing his hands nervously as he looked at the girl in front of him. This is… his biological daughter?
He felt it was all so unfair. He had raised a daughter for 18 years, and now heaven was just going to swap her out like it was nothing? Who could accept something like that so quickly?
“T-Then come in, quickly come in.”
Jiang Dagui, still struggling to get up, tried to stop them.
“Big Brother—”
But Jiang Dafu ignored him and led Jiang Niannian into the house.
Inside, Wang Yingxiu was lying on the heated kang bed. She had a towel placed on her forehead, and her eyes were red and swollen from crying—clearly overwhelmed by grief.
Jiang Niannian was brought directly before her.
The moment Wang Yingxiu saw Jiang Niannian, she froze.
After Jiang Weiguo finished explaining, her mind was buzzing.
“What… what did you just say?” she asked, dazed.
Jiang Weiguo repeated his words again:
“Yingxiu, don’t get too emotional. Didn’t Xiaolin say she’s not our biological daughter and that she went to find her real parents?
This girl is our real daughter. She came all this way to find us. Look—doesn’t she look a bit like Dagui?”
Out in the courtyard, Jiang Dagui immediately panicked. Crap! He worried this might seriously upset his mother. What if her condition worsened?
He rushed into the room, only to hear his mother shouting:
“Get out! I said all of you—get out! Didn’t you hear me?!
Get out!!”
Jiang Niannian stood by the edge of the kang, unmoving. Her gaze was fixed on the woman lying on the bed, whose red, swollen eyes were full of grief.
“Get out of here! I said all of you, out! Can’t you hear me?!
Everyone—OUT!”
Jiang Dagui rushed in and tried to drag Jiang Niannian out.
“Hurry up and go for now—Mom can’t take any more shock right now!”
But Wang Yingxiu, sitting up on the kang, furiously pointed at him:
“Stop! Let go of her! Why are you dragging her?!
I told you all to leave—I didn’t say she had to go!
I want to speak with her alone.”
