Chapter 4 – A Private Talk
Jiang Dagui could tell his mother wasn’t in the right state.
“Mom, I know you’re still thinking about Xiaolin. Please don’t get upset. I’ll take this girl out now—I know it’s hard to accept all at once. I’ll find Xiaolin and bring her back later—”
“Get out! Get the hell out!” Wang Yingxiu shouted.
Jiang Dafu quickly pulled his younger brother out of the room.
He also felt something was off with their mother’s condition.
Jiang Weiguo tried to calm his wife, clearly worried about her state.
“Xiu, you—”
But Wang Yingxiu shouted hysterically,
“You too! Out! Get out!”
It was the first time Jiang Weiguo had seen his wife like this. He quickly backed away.
“Okay, okay, don’t get upset, I’m leaving now. Just—please don’t hit anyone!”
Now, only Jiang Niannian and Wang Yingxiu were left inside.
The mother and daughter stared silently at each other.
Outside, the three men were tense, their hearts in their throats.
They were crouched beside the window—plus one nosy Big Yellow Dog.
So the lineup became: Big Yellow Dog, Jiang Dagui, Jiang Dafu, Jiang Weiguo.
Jiang Dagui: “They won’t actually fight, right?”
Jiang Dafu: “No way.”
Jiang Weiguo nervously peered inside.
Inside, Jiang Niannian was completely dazed when she saw Wang Yingxiu.
Why did this woman look so much like her birth mother?
Too similar. So similar that she wanted to take a few extra glances.
On the kang bed, Wang Yingxiu was staring unblinkingly at Jiang Niannian.
After a long while, she finally spoke.
“What’s your name?”
“I’m Jiang Niannian. My adoptive parents named me Zhaodi, but I didn’t like it. I prefer Niannian.”
Wang Yingxiu burst into tears.
“Niannian… as in ‘to remember,’ to never forget, year after year, heart to heart.”
Jiang Niannian’s eyes widened as the woman came off the kang and walked toward her. Her hands trembled nervously.
“Mom… how much is a cup of Imperial Jade Wine?” she asked.
Wang Yingxiu’s eyes lit up with joy.
“One eighty-one per cup. How’s the wine?”
Jiang Niannian smiled, “Let me tell you about it.”
Wang Yingxiu sobbed with joy,
“Wuwuwu… Niannian, you’re really my Niannian!”
She pulled Jiang Niannian into a tight hug. Niannian laughed—and then started crying, too.
“Mom… Mom… wuwuwu…”
Outside, the three men and one dog at the window were dumbfounded.
Jiang Weiguo: “What’s happening? Why are they hugging and crying now?”
Jiang Dagui scratched his head. “Our mom’s ability to accept things is this strong?”
Jiang Dafu smiled warmly, “She really is our real little sister.”
Inside, the mother and daughter were holding each other, crying and then laughing.
After crying, Wang Yingxiu was the first to speak.
“Niannian, when did you transmigrate here? Look at you, so skinny.”
Before Jiang Niannian could reply, she continued,
“Wait—how did you transmigrate? Did something happen over there?”
Jiang Niannian, still hugging her birth mother, nodded softly and said,
“I was killed in an explosion by some bad people.
I transmigrated just yesterday. I came to find you all today… I didn’t expect… Mom, when did you transmigrate?”
Wang Yingxiu sighed,
“I came after you and your second brother. The body died from excessive bleeding during childbirth. When I opened my eyes, this was the situation.
Back then, the dragon and phoenix twins were just tiny little things—barely the size of my palm. Since I was here, I accepted it.
I treated Xiaolin just like my own and loved her dearly. Who would’ve thought it’d turn out like this? Now that I think about it, when the original host died, the babies must’ve been swapped. I had no idea and ended up loving someone else’s daughter all these years.
But now that you’re back, it’s all worth it. My Niannian has returned—it’s fate that brought us together!”
Mother and daughter hugged again, laughing through their tears.
Their voices were soft, so the people outside couldn’t really hear what they were saying or understand what was going on.
But soon enough, they saw Wang Yingxiu getting out of bed, putting on her shoes, and pulling Jiang Niannian outside with her.
The three men eavesdropping immediately jumped up and stood neatly in a row.
