Chapter 33: Red Envelopes
Besides Leng Tiezhu and Dadanzi, the rest of the Leng family members were all lying down. Leng Tiezhu was actually only barely able to get up from the kang, and had to go find Bai Changpu early in the morning again.
Bai Changpu arrived at the Leng family home, but was driven back by the foul stench at the doorway. He gave a few perfunctory words and left.
This is what Bai Changpu said:
“You certainly didn’t follow my instructions. Didn’t I tell you to reflect, repent, and do good?
We doctors can cure illnesses, but we can’t save lives.
This is a hysterical illness. If you had followed my previous instructions, it wouldn’t have developed to this point.
Alas! Since you won’t listen to me, I have no other way to help. You… you should take care of yourselves!”
Bai Changpu flicked his sleeves and left without a trace.
The Leng family members behind him wailed in unison.
Later, it was heard that Leng Tiezhu had gone to another place with a lot of money to seek help from a fortune teller.
The next thing that happened in the village was that the snow caused several houses to collapse, resulting in two deaths and multiple injuries.
Many livestock sheds were also collapsed by the snow, and many animals died.
These events unfolded according to the trajectory of her past life, and Liu You felt no ripple of emotion.
It wasn’t that she was cold-blooded; in her past life, these families hadn’t been friendly to her. The two families whose members died had even allowed their children to bully her, and the adults would laugh at or curse her whenever they saw her.
Xiang Wentian began to spend time each day teaching Leng You some self-defense techniques and moves. Leng You’s learning ability and speed always amazed him.
Unknown to him, Leng You had been even earlier shocked by Xiang Wentian’s skills. Even in his youth, Young Master Xiang was already so powerful. No wonder he would dominate the entire Pingdu City, and even the international military world, twenty years later.
But where did he learn all these skills?
Although Leng You was full of questions, she didn’t dare to ask.
The weather grew colder and colder. The thick snow showed no sign of melting in the low temperatures, which made it easier for Leng You and Xiang Wentian to travel.
The Spring Festival was more than a month away.
Leng You and Xiang Wentian were even busier because Liu Dazi’s demand for game had increased significantly.
Medicinal herbs could be sold anytime, but this was a rare peak season for selling game. Leng You and Xiang Wentian discussed it and decided to secretly buy a small courtyard near the county town to facilitate the sale of more goods.
Although it was in the county town, the house was dilapidated. Even though the courtyard was two mu in size, it only cost two thousand yuan, but it used up nearly half of the money they had saved in the past few days.
Leng You was surprised by Xiang Wentian’s ability. She didn’t know how he did it, but he had the property deed (just a piece of paper) written in Leng You’s name.
“Brother, no, this should be changed to your name.” Leng You knew very well that without Xiang Wentian, she would never have been able to come to the county town so easily, let alone earn so much money so easily.
“It’s yours, don’t change it.” Xiang Wentian used a commanding tone.
“If it weren’t for you, I wouldn’t have had the money to buy this courtyard, so it should rightfully be yours.” Leng You insisted.
“I said it’s yours, so it’s yours. That’s it, no changing it.” Xiang Wentian put on a stern face.
Leng You didn’t dare to speak again.
Looking at the property deed in her hand, she felt like she was dreaming.
Looking up at Xiang Wentian again, thinking about how she had been gradually changing the trajectory of her past life since her rebirth, and that this change was absolutely related to the young man in front of her, the Young Master Xiang who would become famous throughout Pingdu City in more than ten years, her expression became a little dazed.
Only when his large hand gently touched the top of her head did she wake up from her reverie.
The courtyard, having been unoccupied for a long time, was overgrown with weeds and covered with snow, making it look even more dilapidated.
The two of them didn’t spend time tidying the courtyard. They only simply cleaned the house and repaired the doors and windows so that they could store some goods there.
Having a place to store goods without being discovered, Leng You and Xiang Wentian became even busier. Sometimes Xiang Wentian even had to travel to and from the county town twice a day to transport the goods.
During these times, Leng You would go down to the deep valley alone to hunt.
After these days of training, coupled with the empowerment of a mysterious force, Leng You’s hunting skills became increasingly refined.
Leng You and Xiang Wentian were busy transporting game home, while Xiang Huaixin, Bai Changpu, and Wen Jiuyue were busy cleaning up at home.
Rabbits, pheasants, and quails didn’t need further processing, but the more than ten roe deer they got each day tired the three of them out.
Leng You and Xiang Wentian delivered goods to Liu Dazi every five days. When the time came, they would put the goods on a sled and pull them to Liu Dazi’s place.
They continued to be busy until two days before the Spring Festival, and after settling the accounts, they finished their last business before the festival.
Leng You and Xiang Wentian went to the credit union. Leng You took out Wen Jiuyue’s household registration booklet from her bag; she had secretly taken it when Wen Jiuyue wasn’t paying attention.
Xiang Wentian took the household registration booklet and handed it to the counter, along with twenty thousand yuan.
In the past month, they had earned a total of more than twenty-four thousand yuan, a number that even surprised Leng You. She had originally planned to give Xiang Wentian ten thousand yuan, but as expected, she was met with Young Master Xiang’s cold gaze.
The awe and fear deeply ingrained in her from her past life were brought into this life, and Leng You was too afraid to insist.
Leng You’s household registration was still at the Leng family’s, so Xiang Wentian suggested putting the money under Wen Jiuyue’s name, and Leng You didn’t hesitate at all.
After a month, they had bought enough food and supplies for five people for a year, so when they went back today, Leng You only bought some candies and snacks.
After lunch, Leng You and Xiang Wentian didn’t rush to the deep valley.
“This is for Grandpa Xiang, this is for Grandpa Bai, and this is for Grandma Wen.” Leng You specially put red envelopes made of red paper into the hands of the three of them.
“Xiao Youyou, are you giving us red envelopes? Let me see, how much is it?” Bai Changpu was incredibly moved, but also found it very amusing.
“So much!
You girl must think we worked hard these days, so you’re giving each of us a red envelope, right?”
Xiang Huaixin also opened the red envelope and found that it contained one thousand yuan. He immediately understood Leng You’s intention.
He couldn’t help but sigh again, but he was even more curious about what kind of woman Leng You’s mother was to have given birth to such a brilliant child.
He also felt fortunate that Leng You, having grown up in such a strange family, had not been corrupted and was able to maintain her pure and sincere heart, which was incredibly rare.
“Why are you giving Grandma Wen money? If it weren’t for you two, Grandma Wen wouldn’t even be able to fill her stomach! I don’t want it.” Wen Jiuyue increasingly felt that it wasn’t she who was saving Leng You, but Leng You who was saving her.
