Chapter 1
“Shu Wan, even if you are lending me this money, I will pay you back later.”
When Shu Wan came to her senses, she saw a man wearing glasses standing in front of her. He looked unfamiliar and his mouth was moving as he spoke to her.
Is this another new trick played by my stepmother? I don’t even know to send someone more handsome.
Shu Wan immediately pulled her hand away, got the money, turned around and left.
The man was unhappy and stopped her, “Shu Wan, you haven’t given me the money yet.”
Shu Wan glanced at him calmly and said, “Oh, I won’t lend it to you.”
“Shu Wan, what’s wrong with you? I’m Du Wendong.”
Who is Du Wendong?
Shu Wan’s mind went blank, and unfamiliar memories flooded into her brain.
It turned out that she had traveled through time into the 1980s and became the cannon fodder female supporting role in the novel, the ex-wife of a gangster who was seeking death.
The original owner married a big boss by dishonorable means. After marriage, she acted like a big shot and fought with him. The other party couldn’t bear it anymore and asked for a divorce. The original owner refused to agree and even cuckolded him to make him feel uncomfortable.
This completely offended her ex-husband, and many other things happened afterwards. He hated her so much that after the divorce he sent her to prison, where she worked on a sewing machine.
Thinking of the miserable end of the original owner, Shu Wan was determined not to repeat the same mistake.
The man in front of her was the man who would cheat on her in the future, so she couldn’t borrow any money from him. Shu Wan dodged him and said, “Go borrow from someone else. Don’t come to me again.”
While Du Wendong was distracted, Shu Wan turned around and left. When Du Wendong came to his senses, he could only see Shu Wan’s back as she left.
On the way home, Shu Wan looked around as she walked. Unlike modern asphalt roads and 20- to 30-story buildings, the scene before us reveals a simple and unsophisticated beauty. The girls on the street are even wearing Dacron, a clear mark of the times.
As soon as I got home, I heard a few women whispering against the wall.
“What kind of girl did Captain Huo marry? She’s lazy, greedy, and sloppy. There’s no other woman like her in the whole compound.”
“That would be fine, but look at how she rushed back. She must have gone to see her old lover again. Captain Huo is such a good man, how could she not be satisfied?”
“Captain Huo is so miserable, marrying a wife like this. If it were in the old society, he would have been thrown into a pig cage long ago.”
The voices of several people came clearly into her ears through the wall, and Shu Wan directly poured a basin of water over them.
“ah–“
As several people screamed, Shu Wan opened the door and said in surprise, “Why is there someone here? I thought it was just a few mice, rustling and making so much noise.”
Several people looked unhappy, and a little embarrassed as if they were caught by the person involved. Probably because they were afraid that Shu Wan would go crazy and start a fight, a few of them glared at Shu Wan, then left in anger and with wet clothes.
Shu Wan closed the gate, walked through the bare yard, came to the house, and pushed the door open.
A faint strange odor wafted into Shu Wan’s nose, and she quickly opened the window to ventilate.
A refreshing breeze blew in, and the strange smell gradually dissipated. Only then did Shu Wan take a closer look at the room in front of her.
There was a thick layer of dust on the ground, with melon seed shells, food and fruit crumbs flying everywhere. The table was a mess, with a double happiness enamel pot, a kettle, matchsticks, a lunch box, and unfinished shoe soles…
The lunch box was used and I don’t know how long it had been there. There were white mold spots inside and it gave off a faint sour smell.
This is too dirty and messy…
Shu Wan pinched her brows and walked towards her bedroom again.
The room was about 10 square meters in size, with a 1.8-meter-long bed in it. The quilt and pillowcases were dirty and yellowed. Next to it was a paint-chipped wardrobe and a wooden table, on which was a kerosene lamp and a ball of unfinished sweater.
A little better than outside, but not much.
Shu Wan was a bit of a germaphobe and couldn’t stand living in such an environment, so she immediately rolled up her sleeves to clean.
She first swept the garbage on the table to the ground, sprinkled some water, and then cleaned it with a broom. Then, he filled a basin with water, wrung out the towel, and wiped the dirt on the floor, table, and walls one by one.
After finishing the hall, I went to the room, took the bedding out to the yard to dry, took off the sheets, quilt covers and pillowcases, threw all the dirty clothes into the basin, sprinkled some soap nuts on them and soaked them in water and scrubbed them.
After all the busy work, Shu Wan was sweating profusely.
But the spring cleaning is not over yet. You also need to wring out the washed sheets and quilt covers and hang them in the yard.
There is a clothesline in the yard where you can hang your clothes directly. But the problem is that this body is a little weak and has no strength.
Looking at the heavy, water-soaked cloth in the basin, Shu Wan was wondering whether she should work slowly and didn’t notice the door behind her being pushed open.
When she looked, there was a man with a short haircut, cold features and sharp eyes standing in front of her.
He was 1.88 meters tall, with broad shoulders and back, and a straight body. He looked dignified and upright in his military uniform.
The man in front of him is the original owner’s husband, the big boss who supports the heroine in the book, Huo Zhengye.
Huo Zhengye’s dark eyes were deep, and the glance he gave over here carried an aura of majesty without even being angry, which was extremely oppressive.
“Talk to me.” After saying that, he walked past Shu Wan and walked into the house.
“Wait, can you help me take off my clothes first?” Shu Wan called him.
Shu Wan was afraid that Huo Zhengye would be unhappy, so she added, “The wet fabric is too heavy, I can’t twist it. Look at my hands if you don’t believe me.”
Shu Wan is not a person who tries to show off her strength. She knows how to judge the situation and when she needs help, she will not be embarrassed to ask for it because of face, so when she reaches out, she should do it as naturally as possible.
Huo Zhengye’s eyes dropped unconsciously.
One has to admit that Shu Wan has a pair of extremely beautiful hands, with round fingertips and symmetrical and slender finger bones, as if they would break if she applied any force.
Her fingertips were white and trembling slightly, her finger pads were wrinkled, and her palms were red.
Huo Zhengye looked at the washed clothes in the basin again, frowned unconsciously, and looked suspicious.
The sun is rising from the west, and this lazy woman is actually working?
What kind of trick is this?
In the past, when he suggested talking, Shu Wan always resisted, became hysterical, and yelled, making it impossible to communicate at all. Now, she looked very calm and just asked for help in wringing the clothes.
We’re going to talk about it later anyway, so this little time won’t matter.
Huo Zhengye rolled up his sleeves and rinsed his hands with a hose before picking up the wet clothes and wringing them out.
Huo Zhengye had big hands and great strength. Heavy bedding and blankets seemed particularly light in his hands, and he could even roll up two or three pieces of thin clothing and then wring them out clean.
Shu Wan was not idle either. She wrung out the clothes and threw them into the basin. She immediately shook them and hung them up to hang. After hanging them up, she even had time to admire them.
The sun was shining brightly, and the half-exposed arm had distinct veins because of the effort, and the wheat-colored panel looked particularly charming under the light.
Huo Zhengye’s wringing technique is very skilled and his strength is very great, comparable to the spin-drying function of a washing machine.
Shu Wan felt that this big man was quite homely. He was handsome, could do housework, and was a soldier, so he gave her a great sense of security.
It’s just that I’m not destined to be with her.
In order to avoid the miserable fate of the original owner, it is better to divorce him.
Just as I was thinking about it, Huo Zhengye had basically finished twisting all of them, with only a few small pieces left.
But why does this feel so familiar?
This is not hers… Shu Wan’s face suddenly flushed, and she quickly said, “I’m sorry for bothering you just now. I’ll do the rest.”
