Chapter 22
Shu Fangfang looked flustered, clearly a sign of guilty conscience.
Shu Wan was curious, could it be that Du Wendong and Shu Fangfang really had an unspeakable relationship?
Shu Fangfang would definitely not tell her.
For what the original owner had done for Shu Fangfang, it was far from enough to just apologize verbally, and the resentment that flashed in the other party’s eyes made Shu Wan feel unhappy.
Since it’s not as good as that, it’s better to let Shu Fangfang feel the real pain, which is much better than just apologizing verbally.
Shu Wan put away her smile and replaced it with a worried look, “Big sister, Mom sent a letter saying that she’s not feeling well lately and needs money, as well as quilts and cotton clothes for winter… I used to send them, but this time…”
Shu Fangfang’s face instantly froze. She knew that Shu’s mother asked Shu Wan for money. Sometimes she even acted pitifully to get her family to send things to her.
In fact, in the entire Shu family, only Shu Wan was a fool who didn’t keep any money and sent it all back.
Shu Fangfang knew how big Shu Wan’s appetite had been pampered during this period.
Is Shu Wan trying to put the blame on her?
Shu Fangfang was about to refuse, but Yu Chengcai spoke first, “Sister-in-law, let’s do it.”
“I feel bad that I haven’t been back to visit you in the past few years. Just tell us how much money and what you need this time, and we will send it all back.”
Shu Fangfang’s face looked extremely ugly. Did Yu Chengcai know that once he paid the money, he could forget about changing his job?
Shu Wan’s smile deepened. Her brother-in-law is a good man.
“My mother needs some cotton-padded clothes and quilts for the winter, and some warm items, plus some money.”
As she spoke, Shu Wan patted her chest and assured, “Don’t worry, brother-in-law, I will go buy it with my elder sister and then send it over.”
Yu Chengcai felt that his sister-in-law was pregnant, so he didn’t mind Shu Fangfang’s affairs, but came to help, gratefully saying, “Thank you for your trouble.”
“No, it’s no trouble.” Shu Wan responded with a smile.
He glanced at Shu Fangfang, who looked as hopeless as death, and curled his lips.
What she said was all true. It was just a quilt and cotton clothes, but it was enough for the entire Shu family.
She just wanted Shu Fangfang to keep warm in winter, but the original owner never missed it all year round.
Shu Fangfang was pulled away by Yu Chengcai, and she looked very unhappy when she left.
After the two left, Huo Zhengye found that Shu Wan was in a good mood, her brows were relaxed, and she exuded a joyful aura from her toes to her hair.
Shu Wan has really changed. She used to follow Shu Fangfang’s lead and listen to her. Now, she not only asked Shu Fangfang to pay back the money, but also asked her to come to her house to apologize, turning the tables.
In the past, Huo Zhengye had no doubt that Shu Wan would spend all the money without saying a word and give it all to Shu Fangfang or send it back.
When they first got married, he gave her all his salary and allowances. Later, he found that Shu Wan quickly spent it all and didn’t even consider basic living security. He couldn’t stand it.
Since then, he only gave living expenses every month. Although Shu Wan would ask him for extra money from time to time, it was much better than before. At least she could make a living and have money to eat.
Noticing Huo Zhengye’s inquiring gaze, Shu Wan’s little tail twitched for a few seconds, then quickly retracted it. Her charming smile faded, and her brows were immediately filled with sadness.
“Big sister finally realized her mistake. Now she should know Du Wendong’s true face. I hope that next time Du Wendong comes to her house, big sister won’t be the one who gets taken advantage of.”
Shu Wan spoke with great righteousness, like a good sister who was thinking wholeheartedly about her sister.
But she didn’t want to play the good sister role for too long, she had to let Huo Zhengye slowly feel her changes.
Shu Wan sighed heavily, “Alas! Actually, I’ve been a little disappointed during this period!”
“The past events kept replaying in my mind, and after being enlightened by other sisters-in-law, my eldest sister…”
It was obvious from what Shu Wan didn’t say that she was disappointed with Shu Fangfang.
She was just giving Huo Zhengye a heads-up so that if they ever fell out, Huo Zhengye would not suspect her.
It would be bad if I were mistaken for an enemy spy.
Shu Wan thought silently, and her vigilance increased a little. She decided to put the divorce on the agenda as soon as possible.
She will do more work at home these days and pick it up from the stall next time. By then, the rumors will be mostly gone and she should be able to get a divorce.
Shu Wan’s expression became more polite, and she quietly distanced herself from Huo Zhengye.
Shu Wan’s movement seemed particularly abrupt in the small space with only two people in it.
An atmosphere called embarrassment spread.
Huo Zhengye coughed lightly, “How’s the stall business going?”
When Shu Wan heard these words, she suddenly realized that Huo Zhengye probably couldn’t wait any longer.
“Well, that’s good. I’ll be able to save up some money soon and move out.”
As soon as Shu Wan finished speaking, Huo Zhengye frowned. Why did Shu Wan always bring up the issue of divorce and moving away?
Although he was just asking out of politeness to break the awkwardness, Shu Wan’s answer made him feel that the other party was eager to get a divorce, as if he was being rejected.
Huo Zhengye asked again: “Is the sale going smoothly?”
Shu Wan smiled and said, “They are all sold out. Everyone likes them very much.”
Shu Wan’s eyes were filled with love and happiness, and her little face was extremely bright and moving. Looking at Shu Wan like this, Huo Zhengye felt an even stronger sense of strangeness in his heart.
He silently swallowed his words to persuade Shu Wan to work in the factory and said, “You should work hard.”
“I will.” Shu Wan gave Huo Zhengye a look that said, “I understand.”
Huo Zhengye: …
Forget it, stop talking about it.
The next day, Shu Wan was awakened by a faint smell of urine.
Feeling unhappy, he got up to check and finally found a suspicious stain in the corner.
The sunlight emits a pungent smell.
You can find out who is the culprit by just using your toes.
Shu Wan frowned and was confused.
Yesterday, I had originally intended to bring up the letter just to annoy Shu Fangfang, and she didn’t have time to care whether she would do anything about it later. Now she has changed her mind.
Shu Fangfang must pay this money!
Under the big tree, the adults were gossiping while the children were playing and fighting together.
When Shu Wan arrived, it was a lively time and the military wives gathered together to eat melons.
“Did you see yesterday that Shu Fangfang went to Shu Wan’s house to apologize?”
“I saw it! I saw the whole thing. Shu Fangfang’s face was so ugly.”
“I really can’t believe Shu Fangfang is such a person. He’s really good at tricking girls.”
“That’s right, that’s right, this Shu Wan is really stupid…”
When Shu Wan appeared, the air froze for a moment and everyone’s expressions became visibly stiff.
After all, I was just eating melons when the real owner came.
This is so embarrassing!
Shu Wan pretended not to hear, smiled and greeted her sisters-in-law warmly.
The sisters-in-law all gave stiff responses with forced smiles.
Shu Wan continued to smile as she took out the candies she had brought and shared them with the children playing.
The children all cheered, thanked him sweetly, and then ran away to play.
It is not advisable to hit a smiling face, and what’s more, the other party took the initiative to show goodwill. The conflicting expressions on everyone’s faces disappeared a lot, and the generous ones even invited Shu Wan to come over and sit down.
Shu Wan approached with a smile, she didn’t come here to listen to gossip today.
“Shu Wan, how come you have time to come here today?”
“I haven’t seen you for a long time. I almost recognized you by mistake.”
The sisters-in-law talked at once, and Shu Wan patiently answered them one by one. After a round, everyone’s hostility towards Shu Wan completely disappeared.
Shu Wan had worked her way up from the bottom of society in her previous life, and had to face the complex and sinister human nature. She was far from being able to compare to these simple military wives in front of her.
With her deliberate agreement, Shu Wan became much closer to everyone.
So someone bravely asked about yesterday’s gossip.
The person who asked was afraid of hurting Shu Wan, so he said carefully: You don’t have to tell me if it’s inconvenient.
Shu Wan’s smile deepened. Isn’t this the opportunity?
“It’s not inconvenient at all.”
Shu Wan waved her hand, “My eldest sister did come to see me yesterday.”
