Chapter 40
Before leaving the next day, Shu Wan agreed with Yu Chunyan on the day to pick up the goods.
Yu Chunyan was a little surprised to know that Shu Wan was going to move to the city. Shu Wan did not tell her about the divorce, but only said that she needed to live in the city for a while. As for the divorce, it would be better to wait until everything was settled. Saying it now would only cause more trouble.
Yu Chunyan didn’t ask any more questions. She agreed with Shu Wan on a date to pick up the goods and sent the man away.
Huo Zhengye also returned home early. Huo Miaoyue was a little curious when she saw him moving luggage out of the room. She asked curiously, “Grandma, what is Shu Wan doing?”
“Your sister-in-law is going to move out for a while.” Grandma Huo didn’t mention divorce.
Huo Miaoyue’s eyes lit up, and she quickly asked, “Can we also live in the city?”
Grandma Huo was almost so angry that she laughed, “Instead of daydreaming, why not go help your sister-in-law move the luggage.”
Huo Miaoyue curled her lips and said, “No.”
Huo Miaoyue was afraid that Grandma Huo would ask her to help move things, so she secretly ran out to play.
After moving her luggage, Shu Wan said goodbye to Grandma Huo, took a last look at the house where she had lived for more than half a month, turned around, got in the car and left.
The car arrived at the destination and opened the door. Huo Zhengye carried the luggage in one by one. Shu Wan didn’t have much luggage, so she finished moving it quickly.
Shu Wan was about to thank him when she saw Huo Zhengye picking up a rag and starting to clean.
Last time, Shu Wan just gave it a simple clean, and the high places and dead corners were not completely cleaned. Huo Zhengye was tall and strong, with quick hands and feet, and he cleaned the cabinet tops, ceilings and other hard-to-clean places thoroughly.
One was cleaning and the other was packing the luggage. When everything was done, it was already dark.
Shu Wan looked at Huo Zhengye’s wet back and felt a little embarrassed. “It’s so late, why don’t you have a meal before leaving?”
Huo Zhengye nodded.
“Then wait a moment, I’ll do it quickly.” Shu Wan said and got up to go to the kitchen. Suddenly, she slapped her head, a trace of embarrassment appearing on her face.
We just moved and there is not even a drop of water in the house, let alone food.
“Let’s go out to eat.”
“good.”
Shu Wan changed her clothes, took some money, and went to the state-owned restaurant.
It was lunchtime when it was crowded. There was a queue outside the door, waiting for a seat to become available and for their number to be called.
“I guess we have to wait a while before we can eat.” Shu Wan said, looking at the people at the door.
She didn’t expect that there would be so many people eating there and they would have to queue up. She could wait, but she didn’t know if Huo Zhengye could wait.
Huo Zhengye nodded, “No hurry, why not first…”
Before he could finish his words, a young female voice interrupted, “That gay man.”
Shu Wan looked over and saw the waiter pointing in Huo Zhengye’s direction. She said uncertainly, “It seems like he’s calling you.”
Huo Zhengye frowned and said nothing.
The waitress was a young girl. She pushed through the crowd and came to Huo Zhengye. “Comrade, it’s your turn.”
“Okay.” Shu Wan answered happily. The waiter turned to look at Shu Wan, as if he had just seen her, “Are you two together?”
Shu Wan immediately noticed the vigilance in the girl’s eyes and nodded with a smile.
“Of course we are together,” Shu Wan said as she saw the girl’s face darken. “Comrade Huo, what do you think?”
These words made the waiter’s face turn from gloomy to bright. He glanced at Huo Zhengye’s cold and handsome profile again and was completely relieved. The hostility he had towards Shu Wan disappeared, and a smile returned to his face, even more brightly, as he invited the two of them in.
Due to Huo Zhengye’s powerful aura, the waiter warmly took Shu Wan’s arm and chatted with her casually, glancing at Huo Zhengye shyly out of the corner of his eye.
After ordering the dishes, the waiter left reluctantly, his eyes still glued to Huo Zhengye before leaving.
Shu Wan saw everything clearly and suppressed her smile, “It seems that Comrade Huo’s second spring will come soon.”
Huo Zhengye’s face darkened and his expression became even colder. “We haven’t divorced yet.”
Shu Wan waved her hand, “I’m not a petty person. If you meet someone you like, I won’t stop you. And the divorce process is already in progress. It won’t take many days. If you like her, just chase her bravely.”
Huo Zhengye’s face turned darker, and he pursed his lips tightly, “I didn’t think that much.”
He decided to divorce just to get rid of Shu Wan’s weird and naughty behavior. As for other things, he hasn’t thought about it yet. Huo Zhengye looked at Shu Wan’s smiling face, without a trace of sadness, and suddenly an idea came to his mind.
Will there be men pursuing her in the future? Thinking of this, Huo Zhengye felt a little annoyed.
Seeing Huo Zhengye’s ugly expression, Shu Wan stopped talking and glanced at him out of the corner of her eye.
Narrow and long almond-shaped eyes, a high nose and thin lips, delicate facial features appear even more cramped against the wheat-colored face and sharp aura. He is dressed in a military uniform and looks very manly. No wonder the girl likes him.
Putting aside the plot, to be honest, Huo Zhengye’s appearance is very much in line with her aesthetic. It’s a pity that he is a poisonous rose that can only be admired from a distance and not touched.
The regretful mood lasted for a second, and Shu Wan lowered her head and concentrated on eating. Making money is the most important thing now. Now that I live in the city, it is more convenient to set up a stall. As for the cooperation with Fang Qiuwen, I haven’t heard from him for a long time, so I have to go and ask about it.
After dinner, at Huo Zhengye’s insistence, he sent her home before leaving.
Shu Wan looked at the empty and quiet house and felt a little uncomfortable for a moment. She patted her cheeks, brushed away the sentimentality, and continued to pack her things.
It took a long time to clean up, and the sense of strangeness gradually disappeared. Shu Wan wrote down the things she needed at the table and planned to buy them tomorrow.
Tomorrow I need to buy kerosene lamps, kerosene stoves, bowls, plates and chopsticks. I also need to buy some daily necessities that I don’t have anymore, and food is even more indispensable. Shu Wan looked at the long list, then looked at her wallet and sighed.
Huo Zhengye drove all the way back to the army lounge, picked up his things and went home, planning to move back home in the future so that he could take care of his grandmother more conveniently.
However, as soon as I got home, I smelled a strong and pungent smell of smoke.
Huo Zhengye’s face changed and he pushed open the door. The kitchen was a mess, with thick smoke and blackened walls. Grandma Huo was hunched over to clean up, while Huo Miaoyue was covering her nose and frowning, complaining, “Grandma, you almost destroyed the kitchen. Can you be more careful? How could you forget that something was burning in the pot and just lie down in the room.”
Huo Miaoyue wanted to say something, but when she saw Huo Zhengye’s cold expression, she shut her mouth.
Huo Zhengye strode forward, helped Grandma Huo up, looked at her carefully several times, and confirmed that Grandma Huo was not injured. Only then did he breathe a sigh of relief.
“Grandma, you take a rest first, I’ll clean up.”
After that, he said to Huo Miaoyue: “Take grandma out.”
Huo Miaoyue said “oh” and helped her grandmother sit down in the living room.
Grandma Huo’s face was extremely pale and she looked dazed. Her originally neatly groomed hair became messy. Her lips were trembling and she seemed to have lost her voice and was unable to speak.
She had no recollection of what Huo Miaoyue said. She only knew that when she woke up, there was a fire in the kitchen and Miaoyue said it was caused by her.
This has never happened before, this is the first time I’ve encountered it. Although the fire has been put out, I still feel a little scared. If I hadn’t discovered it in time, I’m afraid…
Grandma Huo’s hands and feet were cold, and a chill ran up her spine.
In the kitchen, Huo Zhengye cleaned up, threw away the burnt food, and made a new one.
Huo Miaoyue was already starving, and as soon as the food was served, she immediately picked up her bowl and started eating.
“Grandma, it’s time to eat.”
Grandma Huo finally came to her senses. When she saw Huo Zhengye, her eyes dodged and she said, “Zhengye, I’m sorry. The kitchen almost burned down.”
Huo Miaoyue interrupted, “Cousin, you don’t know how scared I was at that time. You didn’t see how big the fire was and how thick the smoke was. The same thing happened to grandma. She was so old, how could she forget to turn off the fire and go straight back to the house to sleep? If I hadn’t discovered it in time, I’m afraid the house would have been burned down.”
Huo Miaoyue spoke excitedly, unceremoniously pushing the responsibility onto her grandmother and taking the credit on herself, without noticing that Grandma Huo’s face was getting paler.
Huo Zhengye snorted coldly, “You let a sick person cook for you, Huo Miaoyue, you are really great.”
