Chapter 8
“What’s wrong with you? The clothes I ordered can be made too small. And look at what’s embroidered on it. Is it a pheasant or a sparrow? It’s so ugly!”
The person who spoke was a middle-aged woman wearing a leather coat and with permed hair. She looked at Li Shengnan with anger on her face.
Li Shengnan lost all her arrogance and said, “I’ll return your deposit. I won’t charge you this time, okay?”
The woman glared at him, “Do you think I’m short of money? Stop pretending, find a way to solve it. If you act like you’re feeling wronged, people who don’t know will think I’m taking advantage of you!”
“The public has sharp eyes. Look at what this black shop made. This dress is half a waist smaller than mine. And the pattern on it is so ugly that it burns the eyes.”
Xiong Hanmei picked up the clothes and tried to measure them on her body. In order to prevent people from seeing them clearly, she stretched the clothes flat so that everyone could see them.
Everyone looked carefully and saw that it was true.
Xiong Hanmei is at least 1.7 meters tall, with a big frame, but not very thin, especially her belly, which has some flesh.
The clothes she was holding were visibly smaller than she was, and the patterns were crooked and weird, with birds not looking like birds and chickens not looking like chickens.
“This dress is given to you for free, what do you want?”
“My family is going to have a wedding in two days, and I ordered the dress from you. Now the dress is unwearable, and you ask me what to do? If you don’t change it to something I’m satisfied with, I’ll smash this store today! You can’t keep it open!”
Xiong Hanmei shouted sternly, with an intimidating aura.
Li Shengnan was startled and trembled, “My master is out. He’s not here, so I can’t change it.”
“Then how did I make this dress?” Xiong Hanmei narrowed her eyes.
Li Shengnan’s expression suddenly changed and her eyes avoided.
She took over the dress secretly without her master knowing about it.
Xiong Hanmei saw Li Shengnan’s guilty look and became furious. She sat down at the door and said, “Don’t even think about doing business with us if we don’t solve this problem today!”
Xiong Hanmei had a fierce look on her face, which made people feel daunted. No one dared to enter the store whether they wanted to buy or not.
Not only that, Xiong Hanmei also shouted, “Everyone come and take a look, I spent more than fifty yuan to make custom clothes, and look at how terrible they are. How can you still have the nerve to open a store?!”
More and more people came to join in the fun, and everyone nodded.
“Yes, anyone can open a shop now. Look at the porridge sellers at the street corner. They just add some sugar to the bowl and sell it for five cents. I can do the same.”
“I can make this dress, too, and it’s prettier than hers. Can I charge fifty bucks for it?”
“Come on, are you embarrassed to take it? This is all dirty money, it goes against your conscience!”
Hearing the discussions around her, Li Shengnan’s face turned red and blue, and a trace of resentment flashed in her eyes.
This middle-aged woman is too troublesome, isn’t that inappropriate?
Those skilled tailors have all made mistakes. Is it really necessary to hold them accountable? When she becomes a famous tailor in the future, she won’t work for this old woman even if she begs her to do so.
Xu Xiaoling felt a little uneasy. She pulled Li Shengnan’s sleeve and asked in a low voice, “Sister, should we go ask the other masters in the back hall if anyone can fix it?”
Li Shengnan knew that this was probably the only way, so she gritted her teeth and said, “Tell the other masters that once it’s done, all fifty-five dollars will be his.”
Xu Xiaoling was stunned. What did senior sister mean by this? Shouldn’t this money belong to the store?
Did she take this business privately? Master doesn’t know?
Li Shengnan was annoyed when she saw Xu Xiaoling still there, “Go!”
“oh oh.”
Xu Xiaoling came back to her senses, concealed the complicated look in her eyes, and hurriedly went to find the master in the back hall.
After a while, Xu Xiaoling came back disappointed, “The masters said they couldn’t do anything, so we might as well redo it.”
“How long will it take to redo it?”
“About five days.”
Xiong Hanmei stood up and said, “Five days? The flowers are already cold. No, I’ll give you two days at most.”
Xu Xiaoling asked and then came back, shaking her head, “It’s still not possible, it’s too rushed.”
Fearing that Xiong Hanmei would get mad, Xu Xiaoling quickly comforted her, “Don’t worry, Madam Xiong. We’ll think of a solution.”
“The master is not here again, what should I do?” Li Shengnan was anxious and stamped her feet.
Xu Xiaoling was also anxious because the craftsmen in the store were usually only responsible for altering clothes and some simple orders. Normally, this payment should have been made by Xiong Hanmei’s master himself, but now her master is not here.
Suddenly, someone patted Xu Xiaoling on the shoulder.
“Sister Shu Wan!” Xu Xiaoling turned around and called out in surprise.
How could she forget that Sister Shu Wan is a tailor.
“Sister Shu Wan, there’s some trouble in the store. Can you help?” Xu Xiaoling asked expectantly.
Shu Wan roughly guessed the situation and also saw the horrific dress.
To be honest, she understood Xiong Hanmei’s anger. The clothes she had been looking forward to for so long turned out to be a beginner’s practice work, a mess.
It fits the saying: the greater the expectation, the greater the disappointment.
“I can, but it’s not for free. If you can accept it, then let’s continue the conversation.” Shu Wan glanced at Li Shengnan next to her.
“Senior Sister.” Xu Xiaoling called out.
Li Shengnan’s eyes were full of suspicion. She gritted her teeth and said, “This dress plus the deposit is fifty-five yuan in total. I’ll give you half of it after it’s altered.”
Shu Wan didn’t say anything, just looked at Li Shengnan.
Xu Xiaoling, who was standing by, bit her lip, feeling that her senior sister was bullying her. She had clearly told the master in the back hall to give all the money, but why did she only give half to Sister Shu Wan?
“How much does this crappy needlework cost?” Xiong Hanmei squeezed over and said to Shu Wan, “I haven’t paid the balance yet. If you can fix it within two days, I’ll give you the rest.”
Li Shengnan opened her mouth, but was glared back by Xiong Hanmei.
“And give her the deposit as well.”
“good.”
Li Shengnan pretended to agree, but actually sneered in her heart.
When the deadline comes and the clothes are not altered, the old woman’s anger will only be directed at Shu Wan, and she will be able to get away with it.
You can’t blame her for being cruel. She deserves it because she is greedy and wants to swallow an elephant.
Before leaving, Xiong Hanmei said worriedly, “If you can’t fix it, I won’t pay a penny. The deadline is two days, don’t forget.”
“Don’t worry, I will be there on time.”
As soon as Xiong Hanmei left, Xu Xiaoling breathed a sigh of relief, “Sister Shu Wan, I’m lucky to have you here today, otherwise my sister and I really don’t know what to do.”
Li Shengnan sneered, “Why thank me? It’s not like I’m helping you for free.”
“Why do I hear a dog barking? Xiaoling, did you hear it?” Shu Wan scratched her ear.
Xu Xiaoling was at a loss, “No, where is the dog?”
Li Shengnan was so angry that she actually called herself a dog!
Shu Wan ignored her and turned to Xu Xiaoling and said, “Xiaoling, give me some needlework.”
Li Shengnan sneered, “Are you really a tailor? You don’t even have these things.”
“Xiaoling, be careful not to be deceived!”
Xu Xiaoling was a little confused and didn’t understand why her senior sister was so hostile towards Shu Wan.
Sister Shu Wan is here to help.
After all, only by solving the problem can the reputation of the tailor shop be preserved.
Shu Wan didn’t even bother to raise her eyelids. “Won’t we know in two days? At least it’s more reliable than someone like you who can’t even put the stitches in the wrong place.”
Li Shengnan was so angry that she jumped up and down and wanted to say something.
Xu Xiaoling interrupted, “I’ll take Sister Shu Wan to get the materials, Senior Sister, you can go do something else.”
In the utility room, Shu Wan picked out some necessary tools, fabrics, and needles and threads, picked up her things, and went back to the compound.
On the way back, passing through an alley, I saw a circle of men sitting around a square table, and one of the faces looked particularly familiar.
Shu Wan narrowed her eyes slightly. Is Du Wendong involved in gambling at this time?
