Chapter 14: Children Fighting
Lin Qingyue went to the kitchen, tied on an apron, and prepared to cook. Lu Yicheng, persistent and relentless, followed her into the kitchen and hugged her leg, “Give us back our candy.”
“Lu Yiming, take your brother out of the kitchen!” Lin Qingyue shouted.
Lu Yiming and Si Xi were playing with toys in the living room. Hearing the commotion, the older and younger brothers forcefully pulled Lu Yicheng out of the kitchen.
Lu Yicheng kept yelling for Lin Qingyue to return the candy, causing a chaotic scene.
In a short while, Lin Qingyue brought the prepared dishes to the living room. Lu Yicheng, with tears in his eyes, sat pitifully in the corner, looking as if he had suffered a great injustice.
Lu Yiming and Si Xi played happily beside him, seemingly isolating him.
Lin Qingyue called them over to eat. Lu Yicheng raised his small face, putting on a proud and aloof expression.
“Little ancestor, it was wrong of me to take your candy. Come and eat first,” she felt overwhelmed, suddenly understanding why Grandma Yu had slipped away earlier.
Having such a mischievous child at home was really difficult to handle.
“Unless you return my candy, we’re not talking.”
Lin Qingyue twitched her mouth. It seemed she was the one begging him now.
She was afraid that these three little ancestors would grow up and sell her to some remote mountain village, so she had no choice but to take out the brittle sugar, “Here you go!”
The three children’s eyes immediately lit up, “Wow, brittle sugar!”
Lu Yicheng also scurried over, his expression brightening instantly.
Children’s emotions come and go quickly. Lin Qingyue sighed, “Are you happy now?”
Lu Yicheng nodded repeatedly, grabbed a handful of brittle sugar, and was about to put it in his pocket. Lin Qingyue slapped his hand away, “Wash your hands before eating.”
The little guy reluctantly retracted his hand.
The three little guys lined up to wash their hands. By the time they returned, Lin Qingyue had already served the food.
“Why did you take our candy?” Lu Yicheng couldn’t stop talking even while eating.
“Shouldn’t you call me Auntie?” Lin Qingyue put down her chopsticks and looked at him seriously.
Lu Yicheng’s face flushed red, “Auntie Lin…”
Lin Qingyue was satisfied. She explained, “I went to your dad’s place today and needed to bring some wedding candy for his colleagues.”
“Your dad needs to maintain good relationships with his colleagues.”
“I’m sorry I took your candy without your permission. I apologize,” Lin Qingyue said sincerely.
Lu Yicheng was slightly stunned. He hadn’t expected Lin Qingyue to apologize to him proactively and with such a good attitude.
This woman was unlike the stepmother from the rumors.
“Grandpa taught us that men shouldn’t be petty. Yicheng, you were wrong too,” Lu Yiming said solemnly.
Lu Yicheng’s face tightened, and he said awkwardly, “I don’t need you to tell me.”
Lin Qingyue breathed a sigh of relief. The crisis was finally resolved. Thankfully, Lu Yiming was more mature and helped her.
After Lu Siyi left, their first meal as a family of four was relatively harmonious.
The taste was still not as good as Lu Siyi’s cooking, but Lin Qingyue was confident that with enough practice, the taste would improve.
After bathing the children, Lin Qingyue cut out fabric samples into the shape of school bags before turning off the lights and going to bed.
The next afternoon, Lin Qingyue started cooking earlier than usual. She had just put the chopped cabbage into the pot when Si Xi ran home crying.
She quickly put down her work and hugged Si Xi’s small, soft body, “What happened? You’re crying so hard.”
“My two older brothers and some other kids in the compound fought,” Si Xi sobbed, her eyes red like a little rabbit.
“Why did they fight?” Lin Qingyue frowned. Although Lu Yicheng was mischievous, he wasn’t unreasonable, especially with Lu Yiming around.
“The other kids wanted to grab our brittle sugar, and when we refused, they called us unwanted wild children. My brothers got angry and fought with them,”
Si Xi cried until she was out of breath.
Lin Qingyue’s face darkened. This was unacceptable! Did the Lu family have no authority?
Without a word, Lin Qingyue picked up Si Xi and stormed out. When they reached the scene, the children had already been separated.
A woman with permed hair and fashionable clothes shielded her child behind her and scolded Lu Yicheng and Lu Yiming.
The two boys were like frostbitten eggplants, not daring to breathe.
Several onlookers were also watching.
Lin Qingyue let out a heavy sigh. It turned out that Lu Yicheng was a paper tiger, only showing off in front of her.
The woman became angrier, raising her hand to hit Lu Yicheng.
Lu Yicheng quickly closed his eyes in fright.
At the critical moment, Lin Qingyue grabbed the woman’s hand and pushed her away.
The woman stumbled back a few steps, barely regaining her balance.
Lin Qingyue searched her memory. This woman was Zhou Wenli, who was often close to Wu Jianghua, a sharp-tongued and mean person.
In her previous life, Lin Qingyue had suffered a lot at the hands of this woman, often being cheated by the two of them together.
Sure enough, birds of a feather flock together.
Seeing that it was Lin Qingyue, Zhou Wenli said angrily, “How do you discipline your children? Look at how they beat my child!”
Lin Qingyue remained expressionless, checked Lu Yicheng and Lu Yiming’s injuries, and relieved to find only minor scrapes.
“Let me help you discipline your children then.” She pointed at Lu Yicheng, gritting her teeth, “This little rascal started it.”
Lin Qingyue shielded her children behind her and said coldly, “I’ll discipline my own children, I don’t need your help.”
“Instead of worrying about how others discipline their children, you should reflect on yourself. At such a young age, how could you say such vicious words and try to steal other people’s things.”
“Your child said my children were unwanted wild children and tried to steal their candy. What kind of good person teaches their child to do that?” Lin Qingyue’s expression was unfriendly. She was truly angry.
“Is my child wrong? They are unwanted wild children. If your husband hadn’t adopted them, they would still be wild out there.” Zhou Wenli said confidently.
“Oh, you know that Lu Siyi has adopted three children. These three children call us mom and dad, they are our children, not wild children.” Lin Qingyue rolled her eyes disdainfully.
“That’s right, the children call Captain Lu ‘dad,’ they aren’t wild children!”
“Oh my, children are still young, how can they say such vicious things? Wenli, you must discipline your child well, or what will happen when they grow up?”
“That’s right, how can you say such things and steal things?”
Several elderly onlookers spoke up, all siding with Lin Qingyue.
