Chapter 3: No More Gatherings Unless There’s Something Else
Lin Qingyue’s brows furrowed slightly, her hand subtly withdrawing. Saying this in front of Lu Siyi was clearly a trap.
“How could that be? His child will be my child. We’re about to bring the child home,” Lin Qingyue said indifferently, feeling no affection for this high school friend.
Hearing this, Lu Siyi’s eyes softened, his earlier suspicions dissipating. From the moment he suggested picking up the child until now, Lin Qingyue hadn’t shown the slightest displeasure.
Perhaps he was overthinking.
Liu Sili’s expression froze. She had expected Lin Qingyue to create a huge scene, but instead, she was surprisingly calm.
This was impossible.
She sighed softly, adopting a melancholic Lin Daiyu-like demeanor, continuing, “Qingyue, I know you still think about Tao Siyan, so you’re numb to your marriage, just marrying anyone. But you’re unhappy, and Tao Siyan won’t be happy either. He’ll carry the burden of letting you down.”
Lin Qingyue’s brow furrowed deeper. In this era, people’s thoughts were conservative. Such rumors after marriage would drown a person in gossip. Furthermore, the original owner had been emotionally attached to Tao Siyan after marriage, leading to constant discord with Lu Siyi.
They were still in their honeymoon period, and Liu Sili was mentioning her past ambiguous relationship in front of Lu Siyi. Wasn’t this deliberately infuriating?
“Are you a mind reader? Your analysis is spot-on?” Lin Qingyue retorted sarcastically.
Liu Sili stared at Lin Qingyue in shock, unable to believe her ears. Lin Qingyue dared to retort?
Before Liu Sili could recover from her shock, Lin Qingyue rolled her eyes at her, saying, “We’re a couple, living our lives behind closed doors. Why are you, an unmarried girl, so worried? Are you jealous?”
Liu Sili’s face turned beet red: “Qingyue, what nonsense are you talking about? Tao Siyan still hasn’t forgotten you, he’s been depressed all day. How can you…”
“Are you sick?! I’m married! What does Tao Siyan have to do with me? Can he commit suicide for me after I’m married?” Lin Qingyue interrupted, her expression unfriendly.
“If a grown man commits suicide over a relationship, I truly despise him!” she sneered.
She raised her eyebrows: “You and Tao Siyan are quite a match. You’re not young anymore, you two should just get it done. My husband and I will attend, and give you both a big red envelope.”
“You…” Liu Sili was so angry she gasped, staring at Lin Qingyue in astonishment. Her reaction today was too unexpected.
“Men should marry, women should marry. There’s nothing to be ashamed of. I wish you both a happy marriage and many children,” Lin Qingyue put on a generous act.
Liu Sili’s cheeks flushed, shyly saying: “Qingyue, don’t talk nonsense! I’m still unmarried!”
Lin Qingyue scoffed. She married Lu Siyi because of Liu Sili’s machinations. After the wedding, she deliberately came to sow discord, pretending to be innocent and pure.
What a huge white lotus!
Lu Siyi frowned, a flash of disgust in his eyes. He gently put his arm around Lin Qingyue’s shoulders, asserting his claim: “Hello, I’m Qingyue’s husband, Lu Siyi.”
“We have important things to do today. You and Qingyue should get together another time.”
“If there’s nothing else, let’s not meet again. I’m very happy in my marriage. Please don’t bother me and Tao Siyan,” Lin Qingyue linked arms with Lu Siyi, giving a bright smile and speaking softly.
Liu Sili opened her mouth, wanting to say more, but seeing Lu Siyi’s serious expression and cold gaze, she swallowed her words.
Lu Siyi and Lin Qingyue got into the car affectionately and drove away.
Liu Sili remained where she was, watching the couple leave, grinding her teeth in frustration.
The car drove slowly. Lu Siyi propped up his chin, staring intently at Lin Qingyue. Over the past half-month, he had investigated her.
Lin Qingyue was described as having a wayward and overbearing personality. Why was this person different from the one in his investigation?
Her behavior today was completely different from the information he had.
Was she pretending?
Lin Qingyue broke into a cold sweat, her heart pounding. Feeling the intense gaze beside her, she quickly explained, “Lu Siyi, I confess, I had something with Tao Siyan in the past, but that’s all over.”
She raised her hand, promising, “I promise I’ll live a good life with you from now on, be well-behaved, and absolutely won’t cheat!”
The suspicion in Lu Siyi’s eyes lessened. He had already married her, and they were going to spend their lives together. Shouldn’t there be basic trust between a couple?
Facing his accommodating and gentle wife, he felt ashamed.
He turned his head, solemnly saying, “I believe you.”
Lin Qingyue’s mood instantly brightened: “That’s great!”
She cheered.
They went to a shop and bought two boxes of peach cakes as gifts for his grandfather. The car stopped at a military villa.
Lin Qingyue, in her small leather shoes, got out first. Lu Siyi followed behind her, carrying the gifts.
The couple appeared before Grandpa Lu.
“Grandpa, we’re back,” Lu Siyi placed the cakes on the table.
Grandpa Lu was lying on a recliner listening to a gramophone. Hearing the noise at the door, he quickly got up.
“You brat, you finally dared to bring your wife back!” The old man looked at Lin Qingyue, his eyes narrowed into slits, smiling brighter than flowers: “This is my granddaughter-in-law. She’s so beautiful. There were too many people at the wedding, Grandpa didn’t get a good look.”
Indeed, after marrying Lu Siyi, she had stayed in the military compound, staying indoors and having no contact with the Lu family.
“Grandpa, I’ll come back to see you often when I have time,” Lin Qingyue smiled sweetly, making Grandpa Lu laugh uncontrollably.
“Didn’t you say you’d make dumplings? I’ll help in the kitchen,” she rolled up her sleeves and headed for the kitchen. This was the perfect opportunity to establish her image as a virtuous and capable wife and mother.
Lu Siyi’s eyes softened: “I’ll help make dumplings, you boil the water.”
Boiling water was easier than making dumplings, a good job. Lin Qingyue’s eyes curved into crescent moons: “Okay.”
The young couple got along harmoniously, caring for each other. Grandpa Lu’s eyes shone, as if he saw his grandson waving to him.
His gaze naturally fell on Lin Qingyue’s stomach, pondering: When will this belly bulge?
The young couple didn’t know what was on the old man’s mind. They went to the kitchen chatting and laughing.
Lin Qingyue opened the half-opened kitchen door, and a basin of cold water splashed over her. Lu Siyi quickly pulled her into his arms.
She fell hard against his chest. Lu Siyi was stiff, and it hurt her, bringing tears to her eyes.
“Are you alright?” Lu Siyi asked with concern.
“I’m fine, just my dress is wet,” Lin Qingyue stepped back from his arms, looking at her soaked dress. Making such a mess on her first visit was embarrassing.
Who would deliberately place a basin of water on the doorframe?
