Marrying a Military Officer in the Countryside: Having You as My System Is My Blessing – Chapter 29

Chapter 29

“Congratulations! It’s triplets—three big, healthy boys!”

The nurse handed the babies to Jiang Huaijing and the others. Holding the newborns in his arms, he was momentarily stunned.

His dream of having a daughter had been shattered. Li Pandi each held a baby, grinning from ear to ear.

Inside the delivery room, Gu Nian was finally relieved that she had finished giving birth. But the doctor’s next words shocked her.

“Don’t move—there’s still one more!”

What?! She was actually carrying quadruplets? No wonder people kept saying her belly looked too big. It was all because medical technology wasn’t advanced enough to detect it earlier.

The fourth child was a girl. Jiang Huaijing, who was still waiting outside with the others, smiled when he heard the news.

Two hours after giving birth, Gu Nian was moved to a regular hospital room. Xu and Li Pandi bought her some brown sugar water, but after only a few sips, she couldn’t drink any more.

“Gu Nian, you’re amazing! Giving birth to four babies at once!”

Xu joked while looking at the babies. Gu Nian thought it was a good thing—she had no plans to go through childbirth again in this lifetime.

Jiang Huaijing felt the same. Childbirth was too painful, and he didn’t want Gu Nian to endure it again.

After a while, another pregnant woman arrived in the ward, accompanied by her husband and mother-in-law.

When she saw that Gu Nian had given birth to three boys, she felt envious. She touched her own belly, hoping for a son as well.

Her mother-in-law’s eyes lit up at the sight of the three boys. She turned to her daughter-in-law and ordered, “Alright, you insisted on coming to the hospital to give birth. Now lie down properly! If anything happens to my grandson, I won’t forgive you!”

The woman didn’t dare to protest and obediently lay down. Two hours later, she went into labor.

To Gu Nian’s surprise, she was back in less than an hour.

The husband was holding the baby, while the woman looked utterly devastated. Her mother-in-law was behind them, cursing loudly.

“You lying woman! You told me you were having a son! That’s the only reason we treated you well. But in the end, you gave birth to a useless girl! How could you betray the Wu family like this?!”

The woman felt terrible. She glanced at the baby in her husband’s arms, resentment in her eyes.

Why? Why couldn’t it have been a boy? Her husband and mother-in-law had only treated her well because they thought she was carrying a son.

Now, thanks to her, life would only get harder. She blamed everything on the child.

“Mother, I’m sorry. I thought it was a boy…”

“You wicked woman! You deceived us! We’re leaving first thing tomorrow morning!”

Her mother-in-law took her husband out to eat, leaving the woman alone in the ward. The baby, hungry, began wailing loudly.

Xu, a mother of three daughters herself, couldn’t bear to hear a baby cry, even if it wasn’t hers. She kindly reminded the woman, “Comrade, your baby is crying. She’s probably hungry. You should feed her.”

The woman showed no emotion. She didn’t even look at the child, ignoring the crying altogether.

“A useless girl? Let her starve.”

Everyone was shocked. They hadn’t expected her to be so heartless. Seeing that the baby was still crying desperately, even Gu Nian couldn’t stay silent.

“Comrade, I understand your mother-in-law’s outdated thinking, but I didn’t expect you to be just as old-fashioned. What’s wrong with having a daughter? Daughters are their mothers’ little sweethearts!”

“You only say that because you had three sons. You don’t know the pain of having a daughter.”

The woman was completely unreasonable, acting as if anyone with a son was her enemy.

Gu Nian and the others stopped talking. Eventually, the baby cried herself to sleep, and they couldn’t help but feel sorry for her, having such a mother.

The next morning, a nurse came to take Gu Nian’s babies for a bath, and she agreed. Xu and Li Pandi went with them.

Meanwhile, the other woman was preparing for discharge. Only she and her mother-in-law remained in the room—her husband had disappeared somewhere, and the baby was nowhere to be seen.

When Xu and Li Pandi returned with the four babies, the husband came back as well. Suddenly, the woman panicked.

“Where’s my baby? Who took my child?!”

“My granddaughter! Which heartless person stole my precious granddaughter?!”

The two women collapsed to the ground, crying hysterically. Even the husband looked genuinely distressed.

Soon, the doctors and nurses rushed over, and even the hospital director was alarmed. Losing a child in the hospital was a serious matter—it could even cost him his job.

“Your child is missing? Have you searched thoroughly?”

“She was right in the ward! She was never taken outside! We searched everywhere but couldn’t find her! Director, you must help us find my baby!”

The woman looked utterly heartbroken, but Gu Nian and Xu found it suspicious. Just yesterday, she had completely ignored her daughter.

And her mother-in-law’s reaction didn’t seem right either—she had shown nothing but disdain for the child before.

Then, the woman turned toward Gu Nian and eyed her four babies with jealousy.

“Director, I suspect that they stole my daughter! I clearly remember they only had three sons, so how come they suddenly have four children?!”

Gu Nian smirked. So this was her plan. She looked at the director and calmly explained,

“Director, I’m sorry, but I did give birth to four children—three boys and a girl.”

The woman was determined to frame Gu Nian and shouted, “Liar! You only had three sons! Where did that girl come from?!”

“That’s because you were blind and didn’t see her. You were so fixated on wanting a son that you ignored my daughter altogether.”

At that moment, the doctor who had delivered Gu Nian’s babies stepped forward, confirming that she had indeed given birth to quadruplets.

The woman and her mother-in-law froze. They hadn’t noticed the girl before. Just as the woman was about to speak again, Gu Nian cut her off.

“My daughter has a red birthmark on her backside. If you don’t believe me, everyone can check.”

Gu Nian knew her children well and refused to let this woman falsely accuse her.

Sure enough, when everyone saw the birthmark, they confirmed it was indeed Gu Nian’s daughter. Seeing that she couldn’t frame her, the woman immediately changed tactics.

“Then where’s my daughter?! Director, my child disappeared from your hospital! You must find her!”

Gu Nian smirked. “Director, I noticed yesterday that she didn’t like her daughter at all. Maybe she abandoned the baby herself and is now trying to blackmail the hospital.”

The woman and her mother-in-law panicked, quickly trying to explain.

“Director, that’s nonsense! I didn’t abandon my child!”

Just then, two people walked in, carrying a baby. They approached the director and asked,

“Director, is this the missing child?”
