This time, there were no emotional segments; everything was extremely simple and formal.
There were no PowerPoint presentations, no speeches from either set of parents, and after the host announced the event, he lost control of the proceedings.
Pei Jingyan was the first to step onto the red carpet.
As he walked forward, he felt as if he were still in a dream.
This was originally meant to be his darkest day; he had planned to fly abroad to discuss a trivial collaboration.
But now, he had reached the end of the red carpet and turned around to see Su Qingran, accompanied by Su Zhen, approaching him step by step.
Their lives, which had almost completely lacked intersection, suddenly turned a corner on this day, presenting the possibility of a meeting.
Su Zhen handed Su Qingran over to Pei Jingyan.
Pei Jingyan took out the ring he had just bought, unsure of the size for Su Qingran’s finger. He nervously and slowly slipped it onto her finger.
It was slightly too big.
As for his own ring, he had originally planned to put it on himself, but Su Qingran picked it up first.
She lifted his hand and gently placed the ring on his finger.
At that moment, an indescribable sense of emotion welled up in his heart.
Between them, starting with the “Wu Dao” bracelet in his pocket, they had gradually formed an intricate connection.
“Congratulations, Mr. Pei!”
“Congratulations, Miss Su!”
The host regained control of the microphone. After the ups and downs of the day, he didn’t even dare to say “please let the groom kiss the bride,” fearing that his words might cause this hastily arranged couple to fall apart on the spot.
The guests below reacted and began to applaud in unison.
The engagement ceremony came to an end, and the afternoon banquet began.
The dishes had been pre-ordered, and although Pei Jingyan didn’t want anything related to Jiang Chenlin, it was too late to change it on short notice.
Fortunately, this was just an engagement.
There would still be time to make up for everything at the wedding.
Although today had its twists and turns, the guests were all perceptive people.
Regardless of whether Su Qingran and Pei Jingyan were serious or not, the engagement had been completed. At the very least, during this time, the Su family and Pei Jingyan were tied together.
Soon, the atmosphere among the guests seemed even warmer than before. No one mentioned the earlier events, and everyone tacitly agreed that Su Qingran’s original fiancé was Pei Jingyan.
The banquet concluded at two in the afternoon. Su Qingran changed into her everyday clothes and left the hotel.
It felt as if she had suddenly returned to reality from a farce. All the earlier emotions of joy and sorrow faded away, and she looked at Pei Jingyan, saying earnestly, “Thank you, Mr. Pei, for your cooperation today. I’m really too tired. Let’s talk about our matters when I’ve had some rest.”
Pei Jingyan nodded and helped her into the car, speaking gently, “Alright, we’ll talk when you’ve rested. But before that, I want to say that I’m not here to save the situation; I’m here to get engaged to you.”
While saving the situation and getting engaged might yield the same result, their initial intentions were different.
Su Qingran was momentarily stunned, but her fatigue and disordered thoughts made it hard for her to think clearly. She simply repeated, “Okay, thank you.”
Pei Jingyan said, “Go home and rest well. Goodbye.”
He couldn’t just send her home like this, but it didn’t matter; their relationship had already undergone a qualitative leap.
That day, when Su Qingran returned home, she almost fell asleep as soon as her head hit the pillow.
Sometimes, people are like this—when their brains are overwhelmed by various emotions, they trigger a protective mechanism, allowing her to sleep more soundly than ever.
During her deep ten-hour slumber, the news of her escaping marriage trended briefly, but within a few minutes, it was taken down.
All the photos and videos were cleaned up completely.
Strangely, perhaps among the guests who attended the engagement party, the Jiang and Wen families left first, as did those they had invited. Therefore, only the Su family members remained.
As a result, the news that Pei Jingyan was now engaged to Su Qingran after she had been left at the altar didn’t immediately reach the Jiang family.
Instead, it was only the following morning that Jiang Zhuo learned about it from a friend.
She could hardly believe her ears.
