Marrying My Ex-fiance’s Brother
Marrying My ex-Fiance’s Brother: Chapter 16-2

At the entrance, Pei Jingyan opened the passenger door for Su Qingran. He was driving himself today, and there was a folder on the passenger seat.

He quickly moved the folder, waited for Su Qingran to sit down, and then went around to the driver’s seat.

Recently, the first snow had fallen in the northeast, bringing in cold air, making Beijing feel like it had suddenly shifted from late autumn to winter. After sitting down, Su Qingran instinctively rubbed her hands, and the next moment, Pei Jingyan placed a freshly bought bag of chestnuts in her hands.

She held it and said, “Thank you.”

After fastening his seatbelt, Pei Jingyan started the car and said, “Qingran, from now on, you don’t need to thank me.”

Su Qingran paused and turned her head.

In her view, she seemed to catch a hint of a smile on his lips, but it vanished almost instantly.

It was so quick it felt like an illusion.

From her workshop to the Su family home, Pei Jingyan parked the car, got out to open Su Qingran’s door, and then picked up the folder from the back seat.

As the two of them stood at the entrance of the Su family villa, a wave of nervousness rose in Su Qingran’s heart.

Just this afternoon, she had told her family she didn’t want to get married anymore.

Yet here she was, less than three hours later, bringing Pei Jingyan to discuss marriage and registering their union.

When had things escalated to this point so quickly?

She felt as if she had lost her memory and couldn’t quite recall the journey of her thoughts.

And then the door opened.

Lu Ruolan looked at Pei Jingyan beside Su Qingran, paused, and then, assuming they were here to discuss canceling the engagement, smiled politely at Pei Jingyan. “Mr. Pei, please come in.”

Only one housekeeper stayed at the villa for cleaning, while Lu Ruolan liked to handle most of the household tasks herself.

After inviting him in, she prepared to pour tea for Pei Jingyan as any other guest, but he spoke up first, “Auntie, I came here to discuss with you and Uncle my marriage to Qingran.”

Lu Ruolan raised her head sharply, almost unable to believe her ears.

Yet the young man in front of her looked calm and resolute, clearly not joking.

Su Zhen, who had heard the commotion, soon came from the study and, seeing Pei Jingyan, said, “Let’s talk in my study.”

Pei Jingyan nodded, “Alright.”

Seeing Su Qingran also following, Su Zhen patted her on the head and asked, “Ranran, what do you think of him?”

Su Qingran thought of the chestnuts along the way and replied, “I want to give it a try.”

At this, Su Zhen truly started to see Pei Jingyan in a new light.

After all, although his daughter had a gentle personality, she always had her own opinions. Yet somehow, Pei Jingyan had managed to change her mind within just a few hours—what exactly had he promised?

“Alright, Ranran, you go rest; I’ll go have a talk with him,” Su Zhen said, heading to the study with Pei Jingyan and Lu Ruolan.

The conversation took far less time than Su Qingran had anticipated.

By the time she had eaten half a bag of chestnuts, the study door opened.

She noticed that the folder Pei Jingyan had brought was now on Su Zhen’s desk.

The three of them seemed to silently agree not to share the result with her right away. Instead, they all sat together, chatting over tea and light-hearted topics.

It was a scene Su Qingran had never imagined—Pei Jingyan, who always felt distant to her, sitting in her family’s living room, chatting freely with her parents.

When it was time to leave, he stood up. “Qingran, I’ll be going now.”

Su Qingran also got up to see him to the door.

Lu Ruolan and Su Zhen tactfully left the space to the two of them.

“Your parents didn’t object,” Pei Jingyan said, looking at the gentle, lovely girl beside him with a slightly deep breath. “They’re willing to give you the household register, leaving the decision to you.”

Su Qingran was too surprised to respond right away.

“Qingran, take three days to think it over, alright?” Pei Jingyan asked.

Su Qingran held her breath, then nodded, “Alright.”

“It’s cold outside; I’ll head back on my own,” Pei Jingyan said. “No need to come out with me.”

She nodded again. “Alright.”

That night, Su Qingran went to bed, but neither Su Zhen nor Lu Ruolan fell asleep next door.
