Su Qingran often adds clients as friends when she carves for them because they sometimes need to discuss the details of the carving.
However, every time she adds someone, she puts them in a group that hides her Moments (WeChat posts).
At this moment, Pei Jingyan was standing right in front of her. After finishing the business talk, Su returned to feeling somewhat afraid of him.
She didn’t even dare to say that the carving had already been finalized and there was no need to communicate further via WeChat.
So, she quickly opened WeChat, scanned Pei Jingyan’s QR code, and clicked to add him as a friend. She didn’t dare add a tag or hide her Moments, feeling like a mischievous schoolchild in front of the principal.
Pei Jingyan immediately accepted her request.
He then stood up, his tone indifferent, “Sorry to bother you.”
Su Qingran quickly followed him to the door, showing respect and politeness, “Mr. Pei, take care.”
Once Pei Jingyan stepped out of her lobby, the air inside seemed to flow freely again.
The man walked towards his car in the parking lot across the street, and his driver respectfully opened the back door for him.
As he got into the car, Pei Jingyan glanced slightly in Su Qingran’s direction.
The moment their gazes met, Su Qingran realized she was waving at him like a sycophant, saying, “Goodbye, Mr. Pei. You’re welcome to visit again!”
After saying that, she felt like an absolute fool.
Pei Jingyan’s eyes remained deep and unreadable. He nodded slightly before closing the car door.
The car disappeared from Su Qingran’s sight.
Only then did she breathe a sigh of relief. She turned to go back inside, only to find Jiang Chenlin standing behind her.
“Ranran, let’s go eat—”
“Ah!” Su Qingran was startled. “When did you get here?”
Seeing her like that, Jiang Chenlin couldn’t help but laugh and pat her on the head, “Look how nervous you are, are you scared of him?”
For some reason, the discomfort Jiang Chenlin had felt earlier when Pei Jingyan was looking at Su Qingran completely vanished after seeing her reaction.
“It’s not that bad,” Su Qingran said, holding her chest, and when Jiang Chenlin wasn’t paying attention, she stepped on his foot and said fiercely, “You’re the one who scared me!”
“Alright, alright, my bad. I scared our little Ranran!” Jiang Chenlin laughed, raising both hands in surrender as he led Su Qingran inside. “Come on, the food’s getting cold.”
Suddenly reminded of the wasabi duck feet she had been craving, Su Qingran rushed ahead in a hurry.
Behind her, Jiang Chenlin laughed and teased, “So ambitious!”
“Pfft,” Su Qingran turned back and made a face at him.
She and Jiang Chenlin had known each other since they were kids, growing up together. After the college entrance exams, Su Qingran had an accident, and Jiang Chenlin saved her. After that, the two seemed to develop feelings for each other, and naturally became a couple.
Even though Pei Jingyan had grown up with them too, and was only 27, Su Qingran always felt like he was more of an elder. She could only behave properly around him.
Once they sat down, Su Qingran immediately grabbed a wasabi duck foot before even touching the rice.
The boneless duck feet were drenched in wasabi sauce, and as she bit into the bouncy texture, a sharp, unique spiciness rushed through her nose, bringing tears to her eyes.
Su Qingran quickly inhaled deeply and exhaled slowly to let the intense flavor pass.
Jiang Chenlin couldn’t stop her in time and watched helplessly as she teared up while eating an entire duck foot. He sighed and handed her a tissue. “Eat some rice first. Eating this on an empty stomach isn’t good.”
Su Qingran took the tissue and dabbed at her eyes, exhaling, “Mmm, it’s so good, this is exactly what I love!”
The duck feet still had some soft cartilage, which she chewed with a satisfying crunch.
Seeing her about to grab another one, Jiang Chenlin’s expression turned serious. “Eat your rice and the hot dishes first.”
Su Qingran pouted, “You’re such a nag.”
Despite being called a nag, Jiang Chenlin wasn’t upset. He watched over Su Qingran as she ate her rice and other dishes properly before letting her continue with the duck feet. “Alright, the rest of the duck feet are all yours. I won’t have any.”
“No way,” Su Qingran said, spoiled by his indulgence. She picked the piece with the most wasabi and placed it in Jiang Chenlin’s bowl. “You have to eat one too.”
Jiang Chenlin saw through her little scheme but still put the duck foot, with the wasabi not fully mixed in, into his mouth.
Even though he was careful with his breathing, he couldn’t stop his eyes from tearing up.
Su Qingran burst out laughing and pulled out her phone to take a picture. “Ah, Classmate Jiang Chenlin is crying! I’m going to post this on my Moments!”
