Ning Qiuxiu hurried back to the hospital and found it was already evening.
“Grandpa, how is… Zhan Qingyue?” she asked anxiously.
“Qiuxui, you’re back,” Old Master Xian greeted her.
His usually indifferent demeanor was softened, and his eyes were slightly moist.
He quivered his lips and said, “He’s awake. Xianyue Yao is awake.”
Ning Qiuxiu found the news almost unbelievable.
She had anticipated a long, arduous process akin to a pilgrimage, and had prepared for the worst.
She hadn’t expected it to happen so easily.
Emotionally moved by Old Master Zhan’s joy, she couldn’t help but embrace the elderly man with silver hair. “Congratulations, Grandpa.”
Old Master Zhan nodded, saying, “Thank you, Qiuxui.”
She understood he was thanking her for the effect of the “joy-bringing”—the belief that her presence had somehow catalyzed Zhan Qingyue’s awakening.
“No need to thank me, Grandpa,” Ning Qiuxiu smiled. “We’re family.”
At that moment, Zhan Qingyue’s younger brother, Zhan Qingyuan, approached.
His eyes grew subtly intense upon seeing Ning Qiuxui.
As an atheist, Zhan Qingyuan didn’t believe in the ridiculous notion that bringing joy could awaken his brother.
Yet, the reality seemed to defy his skepticism—less than two months after Ning Qiuxui’s marriage, a miracle had indeed occurred.
Just moments ago, Dr. He, Zhan Qingyue’s primary physician, had informed him that Zhan Qingyue’s brain damage had been recovering remarkably well, almost miraculously.
Zhan Qingyuan cast a scrutinizing glance at Ning Qiuxui. “What’s wrong, Little brother? Why are you looking at me like that?” Ning Qiuxiu asked knowingly, recognizing that Zhan Qingyuan was likely questioning his beliefs.
“Just wondering if you’re the reincarnation of the Goddess of Mercy, given how miraculous this is,” Zhan Qingyuan said.
Ning Qiuxiu, unabashed, replied, “Well, you never know. Remember to pray to me often, and all your wishes might come true.”
Zhan Qingyuan: “……”
After chatting with them, Zhan Qingyuan took Zhan’s father back home.
The old man was both surprised and delighted all day, and his health was a bit strained.
Ning Qiuxiu then went to Zhan Qingyue’s hospital room.
Zhan Qingyue still lay quietly in bed, showing no change from when she left earlier.
He was wearing a patient’s gown.
Since he was recovering, he couldn’t stay at home but had to be hospitalized for treatment and rehabilitation.
Ning Qiuxiu thought that waking a person from a vegetative state would be as simple as someone waking up from sleep, but she didn’t realize the process was so complex.
It involved a series of treatments and stimuli to help him regain consciousness.
“Wow, Miss Ning, you’re really Mr. Zhan’s destined goddess,” Jingjing chattered happily in front of Ning Qiuxiu. “The doctor just said that Mr. Zhan’s brain injury is recovering exceptionally well this month. He even has some level of consciousness now. He can sense when we talk to him every day.”
Ning Qiuxiu: !!!
Wha—What?
Conscious?!
So, all this time she had been around Zhan Qingyue, talking to herself, and even said things like “take the initiative” and… and the time she slept in the same bed with him—he might have known everything!
“……”
Ning Qiuxiu reassured herself that, since she was asleep and Zhan Qingyue was not only asleep but also had brain damage, he surely couldn’t hear anything.
“Did the doctor say when he might wake up?” she asked.
“Dr. He said it depends on his recovery—some recover quickly, while others may take a year or more,” Jingjing explained.
“Oh…” Ning Qiuxiu was relieved that there was a chance he could wake up. “I’m going home to take a shower. Please let them know I’ll be back tonight to stay with him.”
She needed to head back to the film set the next day and wanted to make sure she administered the talisman water one more time before then.
After that, she’d have to figure out how to manage her schedule and take time off to continue this ritual.
Since she was involved in numerous outdoor shoots in the border scenes, it was nearly impossible to take leave.
However, once they returned to the studio in the outskirts of the city for indoor scenes, it would be easier.
Jingjing, while suggesting that Ning Qiuxiu didn’t have to work so hard and that the caregivers would handle the arrangements, acknowledged that since Ning Qiuxiu and Zhan Qingyue hadn’t seen each other for a long time, it was essential for her to stay with him.
Plus, the VIP suite’s caregiving conditions were excellent, making it comfortable.
Jingjing agreed enthusiastically, “Alright, Miss Ning. I’ll make the arrangements!”
Ning Qiuxiu took a shower at the Zhan family’s home, prepared the talisman water by dissolving the talismans, and carried it in a thermos to the hospital for later use.
Fortunately, she had prepared a substantial number of talismans recently.
Though many were incomplete, there were enough well-prepared ones to avoid running out.
The future posed a question: if Zhan Qingyue woke up, how would she handle the talisman business? What if he didn’t believe in it?
She decided to cross that bridge when she came to it.
If Zhan Qingyue turned out to be as disagreeable as Zhan Qingyuan, she might just abandon him!
After dinner, Ning Qiuxiu headed to the hospital with the talisman water.
“Miss Ning, I’ll be leaving now,” Jingjing said, packing up her things and preparing to leave. “If you need anything, just ring the bell, and the nurse will come. You can reach me through WeChat if needed.”
Ning Qiuqiu: “Alright, you go ahead. Be careful on the way.”
“Okay,” Jingjing winked at her. “Have a good evening, Miss Ning.”
“……” Ning Qiuxiu glared at her. “Don’t you want next month’s bonus?”
“Ah, what did you say? The wind’s too loud, I can’t hear you. My ears must be deaf. Goodbye, Miss Ning!”
With that, Jingjing hurriedly left.
Ning Qiuxiu shook her head and sat by Zhan Qingyue’s bed.
She rested her hand on the bed’s edge, propping her chin up as she gazed at the sleeping beauty.
Soon, the beauty would wake up.
Thinking of this, Ning Qiuxiu couldn’t help but smile slightly, feeling a sense of pride.
She was the one who had brought him back to consciousness!
She wondered how Zhan Qingyue would react when he woke up and found out he had been “married” to her.
Would he insist on a divorce and tell her to leave?
Would he accept the situation gladly?
Or would he simply ignore it, thinking, “I don’t care, you can stay here as long as you want, if you have the guts”?
She was quite looking forward to it.
Ning Qiuxiu gave him some talisman water to drink and used a warm towel to wipe his face, hands, and feet, making him more comfortable as he slept.
The night passed in the blink of an eye.
The next morning, she had to fly back to the set to continue filming, and she would have to wait for Jingjing to provide live updates on Zhan Qingyue’s condition.
Jingjing diligently updated her on Zhan Qingyue’s progress, such as him moving his fingers or yawning.
Although these were unconscious actions, even reflexes, they indicated that Zhan Qingyue’s condition was improving day by day.
The days on set were busy and hectic.
Ning Qiuxiu was easygoing and friendly, and since she was wealthy, she often treated the crew to nice food.
Everyone had a good impression of her and she got along well with the team.
Especially with the lead actor, Fang Jinran.
After the recent Weibo incident, their friendship had quickly grown.
Fang Jinran appeared aloof, but he was actually just slow to warm up.
Once you got to know him, you’d find he was very nice and considerate, and everyone liked him.
“Right, K.”
“Right, 2.”
“Haha, BrotherJinran , Qiuxiu, I only have one card left. You guys lost, so you have to treat us to afternoon tea!” Xu Ya triumphantly threw down her last card and said with a smile.
