For Baili Xiao, so much happened that night: for instance, why two individuals of the Northern Dipper could share fortune, why Yu Jinghao’s aura mirrored his own, and… why that person suddenly grasped his hand and expressed such willingness.
Baili Xiao felt everything was happening too quickly, all at once, leaving him dizzy. In both his past and present lives, he had never felt this disoriented. He didn’t even know how to face Yu Jinghao. Should he say thank you? Only he understood that this situation was far too significant to be resolved with a mere thank you. But what else could he say?
It was a mess.
That night, Baili Xiao’s Weibo post was ten minutes later than usual. Many people were waiting for it, seemingly needing to see it, even if they knew it had nothing to do with them.
@Baili Tianshi: Tomorrow is suitable for ground-breaking, demolishing houses, but avoid marriages. The Seven Stars of the Northern Dipper are converging, bringing auspiciousness.
Baili Xiao didn’t exaggerate the auspiciousness due to Yu Jinghao’s actions; the star positions were genuine. The Northern Dipper had gathered together that night, an exceedingly rare occurrence, indeed brimming with good fortune.
He thought he would have trouble sleeping, but that night, he slept deeply—more soundly than on any previous night since arriving in this world.
The next day, the long-awaited costume drama “Chang An” officially began filming. Mike arrived early to pick up Baili Xiao for the set. The interior scenes were being filmed in a studio on the outskirts of the capital. Baili Xiao led a simple life, having only packed a few pieces of clothing as his costume.
He got into the black van; however, this time, there was another person in the vehicle besides Mike and the team.
It was the renowned star, Dai Jue.
Mike’s expression was somewhat awkward. In fact, he had only learned that morning that the male second lead in “Chang An” had been suddenly replaced by Dai Jue. That role had originally been assigned to a lesser-known actor, and now, with the switch to Dai Jue, the fans were naturally thrilled. Yet, Mike couldn’t help but feel a twinge of dissatisfaction.
It turned out that Dai Jue hadn’t informed him beforehand; he had gone directly to the producer, leveraging his previous collaborations to secure the role for himself.
Typically, it wasn’t unusual for a top star to snag a part, but Dai Jue had bypassed his manager to contact the producer directly. This was crossing the line in the industry. Although Mike understood that Dai Jue had never been fond of Baili Xiao—especially after he unexpectedly rose to fame with Mike’s special assistance—Mike felt he had always taken care of Dai Jue since he entered the industry. He didn’t need Dai Jue to show him attitude.
The atmosphere in the car was tense, with the pressure feeling low. Neither Mike nor Dai Jue was willing to speak, and the assistants wisely chose to remain silent.
When Baili Xiao entered the vehicle, he was greeted by this awkward ambiance. He greeted Dai Jue, but the man, wearing sunglasses and reclining in his seat, merely adjusted his headphones, not even glancing in his direction.
Baili Xiao paused, but after a moment’s thought, he understood the situation. He turned to Mike and saw the awkward expression on his manager’s face.
So, Baili Xiao said nothing, just gave Mike a reassuring pat on the shoulder.
The ride continued in silence.
As the top star of Oneworld, the black van drove straight into the filming site, exuding an impressive aura. Once the vehicle stopped, Mike opened the doors for both of them. Baili Xiao stepped aside to let Dai Jue go first, but Dai Jue scoffed, exiting the car without a second thought.
Baili Xiao stood behind, expressionless as he watched Dai Jue’s back, his gaze calm and unperturbed. Mike approached him with an apologetic pat on the shoulder, but to his surprise, Baili Xiao remarked, “This guy’s star power is fading; there’s no need to worry about his attitude or waste resources on him.”
Mike was bewildered. “What? You’re talking about Dai Jue… the top star?”
Baili Xiao smiled faintly. “I’m talking about him. Don’t worry, the future top star of Oneworld will still be your artist.”
Mike: “…If you want to compliment yourself, just say so directly. This kind of roundabout way just makes you look more shameless.”
Baili Xiao actually responded with a mysterious smile, his red lips enticing. Mike was taken aback, thinking how this guy had changed since he returned from meeting the CEO’s friend last night. He was usually cold, but now there was something almost bewitching about him.
It was as if he had transformed into a well-fed demon.
As the term “demon” entered Mike’s mind, he paused for a moment. Then, with a snap of his fingers, he realized that was exactly it. He had always struggled to define Baili Xiao. Describing him as aloof and indifferent didn’t quite fit. No, he was both cold and enchanting—a soul-stealing demon.
And this demon was indeed real, that prophecy was genuine. Baili Xiao hadn’t been lying to Mike. The self-important man, with dark energy swirling around him, didn’t require much effort to see that his luck had run out, and he was heading toward a low point in his life. Someone with such poor fortune, no matter how high they currently stood, wasn’t worth Mike’s concern. If Dai Jue crossed too many lines, he could easily find a way to siphon off whatever little luck he had left—he was simply an inconsequential figure.
So, Baili Xiao followed a few assistants into the studio. The director was chatting and laughing with several actors when he saw Baili Xiao and Dai Jue approach, quickly greeting them.
The female lead of the drama was the top star of Oneworld, named Shen Yuan, known to be a ratings magnet. Shen Yuan was already acquainted with Dai Jue, and although she hadn’t spoken with Baili Xiao before, she recognized him. As the two approached, she eagerly waved them over.
Dai Jue lazily extended a hand in acknowledgment, while Baili Xiao politely nodded and introduced himself. “I’m Li Xiao. This is my first acting role, so I appreciate everyone’s guidance.”
Luo Wei’s smile was very kind: “Ah, the lucky star of our crew.”
The surrounding actors laughed heartily, giving the director face, and the atmosphere was quite harmonious. Baili Xiao scanned the area, matching the main actors with the information he had previously reviewed. The male lead was not an artist from Huanyu; due to the sixteen-year age gap between the male and female protagonists in the original work, they had chosen a thirty-five-year-old seasoned actor for the role. This person was a true veteran, and Baili Xiao greeted him courteously: “Brother Wang Hong, nice to meet you.”
The actor was easy to talk to and laughed, saying, “No need to be polite. Let’s spend more time together later so I can soak up some of your luck.”
Another round of laughter erupted in the crew.
After Baili Xiao got familiar with everyone, Mike took him to his room. However, a problem arose when it came time to choose a room.
The logistics team had reserved two rooms for them since the fourth and second male leads belonged to the same company and were managed by the same manager, assuming their personal relationship wouldn’t be too bad. Naturally, Dai Jue loved to show off and walked at the back, letting everyone clear the way for him. Baili Xiao walked ahead, and when the logistics assistant mentioned that both rooms were available, he naturally chose the one with better feng shui.
In fact, aside from the feng shui, this room was nothing special; it was smaller and older than the other one. However, this room had better lighting, with larger windows.
Baili Xiao didn’t think too much about it, he simply chose the room facing south out of habit. In reality, feng shui didn’t have much of an effect on him; it was merely a personal preference.
However, before he could even place his bag on the chair, he heard Dai Jue’s displeased voice from behind:
“What’s going on? Can’t a newcomer show a little self-awareness? Who told you to pick first?”
Baili Xiao was a bit surprised. He turned to look at Dai Jue, his voice devoid of emotion: “This room is smaller and older than the other one. I let you stay in the opposite room. Is there a problem?”
“What’s the problem? Of course there’s a problem.” Dai Jue arrogantly pushed his sunglasses down with his index finger, his amber eyes glaring sharply at Baili Xiao. “I decide what kind of room I want. I don’t need a rookie like you to assume anything. This room has good lighting, and I need it for reading the script. I’m staying here.”
“Everyone’s shooting during the day. You read the script at night. Does it matter if the lighting is good?” Baili Xiao replied.
Dai Jue instantly became furious. He grabbed Baili Xiao’s bag and flung it out the door, where it landed with a thud in the arms of a passing assistant. The assistant let out a painful yelp and was about to say something, but when he met Dai Jue’s furious gaze, he quickly fell silent.
Who in the industry didn’t know about Dai Jue’s temper? He had a notoriously bad attitude and a huge ego. When he first debuted, he could still be managed by Mike, but in recent years, as he rose to fame, even Mike found it harder to keep him in check. His image was strong, and after landing several good roles, he became increasingly popular. Those around him had no choice but to tolerate his attitude.
Baili Xiao looked at him with a hint of pity. “It’s just a room, you petty man.” He said this without any intention of continuing the argument with Dai Jue, turning to leave for the opposite room. However, perhaps his obvious disdain further provoked Dai Jue’s anger. Since becoming famous, no one—whether staff or fellow artists—had dared to show him such open contempt.
Dai Jue pointed at the back of Baili Xiao’s head, shouting, “What are you pretending to be high and mighty for? You can’t even find your way as the fourth male lead in a lousy role. Do you really think you’re some kind of lucky star? I see you as a born loser, a broom star; before long, this company will go down because of you.”
Born loser.
Broom star.
The youth’s steps suddenly halted.
After cursing those two phrases, Dai Jue felt quite pleased. He had long been irritated by the crew referring to Baili Xiao as “the lucky star.” If it weren’t for his own mistake, how could there even be a Baili Xiao as the fourth male lead? He was just a leftover.
However, just as he reveled in his triumph, he noticed that the young man was slowly turning around, his dark eyes looking dangerously profound.
Mike, who had rushed over to mediate, was momentarily frozen by the look on Baili Xiao’s face. Although he had never seen this expression before, he was certain that Baili Xiao was genuinely angry.
—This was a youth who usually didn’t care about others’ opinions, who dismissed rumors and curses as if they were nothing; a god-like figure with a chilling demeanor, but now his eyes were filled with real fury.
Others might not understand, but after following Baili Xiao these past few days, Mike had begun to grasp how seriously he took “luck” and how cautious he was about it. Dai Jue had clearly stepped on a landmine.
Baili Xiao advanced step by step, forcing the man, who was half a head taller, to retreat a few steps. His aura was fully unleashed, an oppressive force that held everyone in the room in place.
Dai Jue looked at him uneasily, struggling to suppress the sudden unease rising within him. Gritting his teeth, he demanded, “W-What are you doing?”
Baili Xiao moved in close, his lips pressing together lightly. After a moment, he said, “I’m not the broom star; rather, it’s you. Your luck has run out, and disaster is coming your way.”
“What did you say?” Dai Jue was stunned for a second, but his anger quickly flared. “Say that again!”
However, the young man suddenly seemed to shed the earlier imposing aura, becoming calm and unbothered once more. He cast a faint glance at Dai Jue and simply said, “Remember my words.”
With that, he gracefully walked away.
