Chapter 36 – Taking a Disciple
Li Xiao also looked over, and everyone else in the car was equally concerned.
“They all can’t remember anymore.”
“Is it the work of those evil Taoists?”
“Yes.”
“So despicable! Isn’t there any way to deal with them?” Yan Hao was filled with righteous indignation. He was already a hot-blooded and slightly over-the-top teenager. When he heard the female ghosts in the village talking about what they had gone through, he had been so angry he almost got depressed.
Some people’s hearts are truly more terrifying than ghosts.
“Karma cycles, and the heavens never overlook. In the end, they will bear the consequences of their own actions.” Yan Qiao remained calm as ever.
Too Zen.
As expected of a master.
Meanwhile, on the other side, three Taoist priests were in tatters, covered in dust, and looked absolutely miserable.
“Senior Brother, who exactly is that little girl? We’ve never heard of anyone like her before,” a slightly chubby Taoist grumbled in frustration. Things had always gone smoothly for them—when had they ever experienced such a crushing defeat?
As soon as he finished speaking, another Taoist echoed him, “Right! She’s ruined so many of our plans!”
The senior brother looked a bit grim.
After a long pause, his deep voice finally sounded, “Let’s not act rashly for now. Let’s head back and see what Master says.”
“Thankfully, we didn’t return completely empty-handed. At least we can report something.”
He touched the small bottle at his waist, feeling a bit of relief.
“That’s right. Let’s go back and tell Master. Let Master take care of her! Just a young girl—if Master steps in, she’ll be dealt with easily!”
“Of course! Master’s cultivation is profound—few can match him!”
When talking about their master, the confidence returned to the faces of the three Taoists.
Back with Yan Qiao, they drove straight back to Jiangcheng.
By the time they got home, it was already late at night.
The bodyguards took the Taoists away. Since Yan Qiao had already treated their injuries, she had done all she could—what happened afterward was up to them.
Mu Yunzhe’s parents were taken to the villa where Li Xiao lived.
Yan Jue also brought Shen Zhiyin back.
At home, even though it was already late, Su Min was still waiting for them and had asked the housekeeper to prepare a whole table of food. Yan Zhengtian and Yan Chen were also waiting.
She had called them earlier, so knowing they were coming back tonight, she couldn’t possibly fall asleep.
“A Qiao, are you alright? Did you get hurt?” As soon as they came in, Su Min was the first to rush over to Yan Qiao and ask with concern.
Though they had only been gone for one day, it felt like a long time to her.
“I’m fine, Pretty Mom, no need to worry.”
Su Min still wasn’t reassured. She looked her over several times before confirming that she truly wasn’t injured.
“That’s good.”
Only then did Su Min’s attention shift to her eldest son, daughter-in-law, and youngest son.
“Ah Jue, Yinyin, are you both okay?”
“We’re fine, thanks to A Qiao. She’s amazing,” Yan Jue praised seriously.
Yan Hao came to his mother’s side, put an arm around her shoulder, and eagerly wanted to tell her everything that had happened during the day.
“You probably haven’t eaten yet, have you? Let’s eat first,” Yan Zhengtian said in his deep voice.
Seeing that all his children were safe, he finally relaxed.
The family sat down to eat, and before long, Li Xiao and the others arrived too—mainly to grab a bite.
After all, it was the middle of the night, and no one at their place was cooking. Plus, they had to offer incense to the ancestral master.
Yan Qiao went over to Li Xiao’s place and grabbed some pomelo leaves to boil for their baths later.
Poor pomelo tree—it was going to be stripped bald during this period.
Shen Zhiyin was still in a bad state, drowsy and sluggish. After eating a few bites, Yan Jue took her upstairs to rest.
The most energetic eater was Yan Hao—his spirits were the best among them.
Su Min sat beside Yan Qiao, continuously putting food into her bowl until it was piled up like a small mountain.
If Yan Qiao weren’t already eighteen, she would’ve probably wanted to feed her herself.
“Pretty Mom, I want to eat by myself,” Yan Qiao finally couldn’t take it anymore and had to speak up.
She had grown up depending on her master, had always been very independent, and even occasionally had to take care of him.
Now being taken care of like this, she was very unused to it.
“Uh, alright then,” Su Min set down her chopsticks.
“How have you been these past two days, Pretty Mom?” Yan Qiao took the rare initiative to ask.
Su Min froze, overjoyed that her precious daughter was showing concern for her. “A Qiao, I’m fine. Just worried about you all. I didn’t sleep well last night.”
“Mom, you don’t need to worry about A Qiao. She’s stronger than anyone!”
“A Qiao, can I become your disciple? Does your Longyu Temple accept students?” Yan Hao’s eyes sparkled.
Yan Zhengtian frowned. What nonsense was this kid up to now?
Su Min and Yan Chen were also stunned.
Yan Chen asked directly, “Ah Hao, are you serious? You want to become a Taoist?”
“Of course I’m serious. I want to learn skills from A Qiao. If that makes me a Taoist, then so be it!” He didn’t mind at all.
Li Xiao sat on the side, watching the excitement.
“If it’s you, I can accept you,” Yan Qiao replied calmly.
She had checked—Yan Hao had great talent and was a rare find. Right now, she was the only one in Longyu Temple, so if she found someone with potential, of course she’d take them in. That’s how the temple could grow stronger in the future.
“Wow, awesome! Then should I call you Master or A Qiao from now on?” Yan Hao was so happy! His sister had accepted him!
“Either is fine. It’s just a title. I don’t mind—especially since you’re my third brother.”
“Then I’ll call you Master now and A Qiao later!”
He stood up, straightened his clothes, and respectfully called out, “Master!”
Yan Qiao nodded, fully adopting the master’s demeanor.
“This is your disciple-gift,” Yan Qiao said, taking a coin wrapped in red thread from her pocket and handing it to him.
Yan Hao recognized it—it was one of her magical tools. She always used it when dealing with spirits.
“A Qiao, if you give this to me, what will you use? I don’t even know how to use it yet…”
“I have more. I’ll teach you later,” Yan Qiao replied, calm as always.
“Wow, awesome! Then I’ll accept it. Thank you, A Qiao!” Yan Hao took it, feeling the weight in his hand. It had a good feel.
“You’re welcome. It’s not easy to get started—just don’t give up after a few days.” Yan Qiao didn’t forget to remind him.
“Of course I won’t!”
At that moment, Mu Yunzhe also spoke up, “Master Yan, may I become your disciple too?”
Everyone turned to look at him in unison.
Yan Zhengtian looked surprised. Was Young Master Mu serious?
“You can’t,” Yan Qiao rejected him immediately.
“Huh? Why not? Am I not qualified?” Young Master Mu looked a bit frustrated.
“No, Taoism emphasizes fate. You’re not suited to the Dao. Focus on running your business,” Yan Qiao explained seriously—after all, he was a major client.
On the way back today, she had settled the bill with him. The fee was 88,000 yuan.
He had directly transferred 200,000, telling her to use the rest as incense offerings and to buy cinnabar, yellow talismans, and such. He said he would buy more in the future.
“Ah, well in that case, I won’t push it.” Though he felt a little regretful, there was nothing he could do.
After thinking for a moment, he asked again, “Then, can you do a reading for me? Has my bad luck passed?”
