Chapter 43: My Redemption
Lying on the bedding soaked through with Shi Chan’s blood, Xi Ming’s mind was in fierce turmoil.
Blood…
Blood everywhere…
The sound of flesh being pierced, the scent of blood… It was so familiar… Someone was injured…
He heard the word “death.” Whose death? Was it his own? He was supposed to die anyway… No, not him. It was Shi Chan! His Chan Chan, his Chan Chan was dying…
No!
That can’t happen!
Shi Chan must not die! Shi Chan must live!
Xi Ming had forgotten many things. He only knew that he had been very tired lately—so exhausted that he wanted to sleep without caring about anything. But there was always a faint, familiar voice speaking to him gently.
Xi Ming couldn’t quite understand it, but he couldn’t suppress the joy it brought him. He liked this voice. He liked the owner of this voice… He couldn’t fall asleep. He was afraid that if he did, he would never hear that voice again.
That voice was calling “Ming-ge.” Ming-ge… Who was that? Was it him? It should be him…
Heat cycle? What was a heat cycle? The heat cycle belonged to both of them… He was looking for another Alpha? No, he couldn’t. He was his Alpha…
Blood…
“No… You can’t die!” Xi Ming struggled before suddenly shouting out, then spat out a mouthful of blood as his mental power surged outward uncontrollably.
He needed to find his Omega.
Xi Ming clenched his teeth, suppressing the pain from his body enduring the mental outburst.
Chan Chan, you promised me. You said you would never leave me.
A powerful surge of mental energy swept across the surroundings, crushing everything in its path. Small stones moved without wind, and the ground bore deep marks from the invisible force.
On the other side, Shi Chan was already engaged in a fight. Even with countless wounds on his body, he still managed to intimidate his opponents.
“We don’t want to make things difficult for you. Just tell us where you hid that thing!” one of them shouted at Shi Chan.
Blood was already trickling from the corner of Shi Chan’s mouth, though not due to these people. The injuries from passing through the wormhole had never healed properly, and now, due to multiple factors converging, they were all erupting at once.
But Shi Chan’s appearance was so wretched that even his enemies couldn’t help but feel moved.
The mental force that spread from Xi Ming made it unbearable for Shi Chan as well.
Death…
There was no sound, yet everyone under Xi Ming’s mental pressure felt that word appear in their minds.
The mental oppression of an imperial top-tier Alpha was terrifying. Right now, Xi Ming was in a state of frenzy, with only one thought—kill everyone who had harmed Shi Chan.
He thought this, and he acted on it.
By the time Shi Chan recovered slightly, a group of bodies with twisted faces and blood seeping from their orifices lay around him.
Sensing the familiar mental energy, Shi Chan hesitantly reached out to touch the air. “Xi Ming?”
The brutal mental force suddenly softened, as if afraid of hurting Shi Chan, carefully brushing against his face. Shi Chan felt it like a gentle breeze.
“I knew it was you.” Shi Chan wiped the blood from his face and smiled, though his features were still indistinct. “You saved me.”
Sensing Xi Ming’s urging, Shi Chan stopped teasing him. “I know, I’ll return now. I hope that by the time I get back, you’ll be better.”
Taking advantage of Xi Ming’s absence, Shi Chan rubbed his eyes with the back of his hand. “I’m so tired being alone. I don’t like this kind of life. I want to be with you. Even if we do nothing, that’s enough for me.”
“Don’t think that just lying there counts as keeping me company. It doesn’t. When I talk to you, you need to respond. Even if it’s just a simple ‘Mm,’ as long as I know you’re listening, I’ll be satisfied.”
“I kept our mecha safe. The technology here is so underdeveloped that this mecha might be our only chance to return. I know you want revenge, and I’ll help you.”
Xi Ming’s mental energy trembled slightly, as if unable to control its own strength. It brushed against Shi Chan’s hand, causing a sharp pain.
The next second, it withdrew abruptly, as if realizing its mistake, not daring to touch him again.
Shi Chan noticed the crushed sand and stones around him.
He let out a small laugh, mixed with a cough. “Cough… It’s okay…” Then, realizing his own condition, he added, “Forget it, I’ll just wait until I get back and continue holding you.”
The gentle breeze carried more urgency.
—
As Shi Chan approached Xi Ming’s hiding place, he saw Xi Ming turn his face toward him. Shi Chan’s voice trembled with emotion, “You’re really awake.”
It had only been a short time, yet Shi Chan felt as if he hadn’t heard Xi Ming respond to him for years.
Xi Ming’s vision was still blurry, only able to make out faint shadows, but his hearing had improved after the past few days of treatment—at least enough to clearly hear Shi Chan’s voice.
A mist filled Xi Ming’s eyes, and he stretched his fingers toward Shi Chan.
With a helpless sigh, Shi Chan placed his hand in Xi Ming’s and lay down beside him, recovering his own injuries while talking to Xi Ming. “Now look at us, we’re both crippled.”
Xi Ming’s throat still ached, but he forced himself to speak, his voice dark and possessive, laced with intense obsession. “Don’t leave… You’re mine…”
Shi Chan noticed the shift in Xi Ming’s emotions but wasn’t worried. He only had the urge to throw himself into Xi Ming’s arms and cry. But right now, their bodies probably couldn’t handle that.
“I know. As long as you stay awake,” Shi Chan finally hooked his finger into Xi Ming’s palm. “When have I ever not listened to you?”
He had no intention of leaving. What he longed for was someone who would walk this path with him.
Even if life continued to spiral downward, he would not part from Xi Ming.
If ambition mattered, then his past life—endlessly chasing immortality alone—should have been enough. He had been through it and knew it wasn’t what he wanted.
Seeing that Xi Ming wanted to say something, Shi Chan covered his mouth. “Don’t speak. Look at you, your lips are covered in blood. Whatever you want to say, tell me when you’re healed. We have a long future ahead.”
Xi Ming obediently stopped struggling, but he flicked his tongue.
The taste was nothing but sand and blood… Xi Ming etched that flavor into his memory.
Shi Chan, as if scalded, withdrew his hand, his face turning slightly red.
At first, he was embarrassed. Then, he was happy.
Xi Ming had truly woken up. Seeing him so “alive” was a relief.
Feeling Xi Ming’s mental energy constantly lingering around him, Shi Chan couldn’t hold back anymore. He released his own spiritual energy and merged it with Xi Ming’s.
There was no healing involved—just simple, mutual pursuit and entanglement, reveling in this moment of intimacy.
After a short rest, Shi Chan regained some strength and got up. “Ming-ge, we need to get back to that truck as soon as possible. You don’t know this, but the weather here is strange. There are often dry thunderstorms—thunderbolts strike the ground without rain, making it extremely dangerous to stay outside.”
“It’s a good thing I brought the mecha with me. Looks like I’ll have to use it to drag you back again.” Shi Chan adjusted Xi Ming’s position. “You know, when we first landed from the wormhole, I was dragging you with the mecha too.”
Xi Ming furrowed his brows, prompting Shi Chan to pause. “Ming-ge, do you find me talking too much?”
Xi Ming curled his fingers against Shi Chan’s palm.
How could he ever think Shi Chan talked too much? He wanted him to talk forever—to prove that he was always, always by his side.
