Song Wei bent over to turn her younger brother over, muttering about how obedient he used to be and how rebellious and irritable he had become. Early romance really does harm people.
I looked at her; her expression was normal, seemingly oblivious to any problems in her household.
“Song Wei, is this room poorly ventilated?” I frowned, glancing at the only sliding window, which faced the wall of the neighbor’s house, nearly touching it!
“It’s fine, what’s up?” Song Wei turned her head to look at me.
“I think it’d be better to open the window and let some sunlight in.” I had just finished speaking when suddenly her brother twitched violently.
“Ah!!” I stepped back in fright, while Song Wei excitedly slapped her brother’s face.
“Xiao Qiao, look, he’s reacting!” Song Wei exclaimed excitedly to me, lifting her brother’s quilt and pinching his arms.
I felt a chill run down my spine, stepping back slowly because on her brother’s bed, there clearly lay another person!
But Song Wei couldn’t see it; Jiang Qiyun had told me she was of pure Yang blood and couldn’t see ghosts. She couldn’t see a ghostly figure, gaunt and hunched under the quilt!
The ghost glanced at me, shrugged its shoulders, and closed its eyes to continue sleeping.
His brother actually shares his bed with a ghost every day?!
“Song, Song Wei…” I had moved to the door, “I, I’m going to go ahead, can you walk me out? I’m afraid of getting lost.”
I immediately ran downstairs, bursting out of her house before I could breathe easier.
Song Wei chased after me, asking why I ran off so fast. I grabbed her and said, “I think there’s something wrong with the layout of your house, especially your brother’s room. Maybe move him to another room, one with better ventilation and lighting.”
Song Wei frowned. “You think there’s something wrong with the feng shui of my house?”
“Well… I’m not really sure, maybe you could find an expert to take a look?”
“Where am I supposed to find an expert? Fortune tellers on the street are easy to find, but they’re all frauds,” Song Wei sighed.
“I’ll ask my family when I get back—anyway, you should move your brother to another room first. He needs to recuperate; he can’t keep sleeping in that room, definitely not!” I said anxiously, gripping her hand.
Song Wei blinked and nodded. “Okay, you seem really worried… We’ll switch when my dad gets back.”

When Jiang Qiyun appeared in my room, he immediately frowned and asked, “Where have you been picking up dirty stuff again?”
Dirty stuff? I was totally taken aback.
“I went to see Song Wei’s brother. As soon as I entered, I felt something was off. Later, I saw a ghost under his quilt, and the ghost saw me too, but it closed its eyes and continued sleeping, didn’t harm me.” I confessed honestly.
“Nonsense, you’re covered in my aura; ordinary ghosts wouldn’t dare offend you even if they don’t recognize you,” Jiang Qiyun said impatiently.
Covered in his aura… I couldn’t help but remember the embarrassing things he left in my body, my ears getting hot, so I recounted my feelings in detail.
Jiang Qiyun listened, then slightly curled his lips. Was he smiling?
“You’re not cut out for learning Taoist magic, but you do have a knack for understanding feng shui.”
“Ah?”
“Based on your description, that should be a living person staying in a death house.”
I got goosebumps and asked, “What do you mean by a living person staying in a death house?”
“That house is surrounded by neighbor’s walls on three sides, with too small a window and only the front door as an exit. Such a structure is similar to a tomb… Perhaps the neighboring houses were built later, so recently his brother has been greatly affected.”
“Did the female ghost extract his soul? That female ghost’s possessed body must be the girl his brother has a crush on.”
“No, the underworld officials checked; his brother is afflicted with yin energy. Normally, resting in the sunlight for a few days would help, but with another lying there, it’s strange that he could wake up. If he stays there longer, he could lose his life.” Jiang Qiyun advised, “Don’t meddle too much, just give her your suggestions, whether they follow through is their business.”
I nodded. “I understand.”
Yin energy causes fainting? Staying too long with a ghost could be lethal? Then how come I’m fine after all the things Jiang Qiyun and I did?
And now, he stays with me every day, usually appearing in my room at night until I fall asleep.
“Aren’t you busy?” I asked puzzledly, as he idly sat in my room.
He snorted. “The spirit fetus needs my yin energy.”
Alright, I was being presumptuous again.
“When do you usually leave? Sometimes I fall asleep, and you’re still here.”
“By dawn, when yin turns to yang, I leave.”
We didn’t have much else to say. My fear of him had dissipated, though I still resented his coldness and indifference.
But I didn’t have the right to complain; our relationship wasn’t based on emotions. Perhaps once this child is born, our relationship would snap like a kite string.
He would take the child, and I would be left alone.

I was sleeping hazily when my phone suddenly started vibrating violently, startling me. The time was just past midnight.
Jiang Qiyun was indeed still in my room, propping his chin with one hand, leaning on the bay window, his long legs resting on my computer chair, eyes closed, sleeping.
The call was from Song Wei. Not wanting to wake Jiang Qiyun, I quietly said, “Hello… what’s up…”
Song Wei’s voice was piercingly loud as she cried and said, “Xiao Qiao, that room really has a problem! You said not to stay there today, so I moved my brother to my room, and I came to sleep in his… Wah, I had a nightmare! I dreamt of a consumptive man saying the bed was too crowded and told me to leave, or he’d make sure I never woke up! Scared, I ran to sleep with my mom! Wah, wah, wah… Is there anything you can do? Is our house haunted?”
“Um…” What should I say?
Following my great-grandfather’s teachings, some things, once spoken, become karma.
Just as I hesitated, a large hand took my phone away. Jiang Qiyun took the phone to his ear, his tone stern, “Either demolish and rebuild the house, leaving a backyard to ensure proper ventilation and lighting, or just move out.”
“Uh?” Song Wei on the other end didn’t respond before Jiang Qiyun hung up.
He put the phone back on the bedside, coldly saying, “Go to sleep.”
I was both annoyed and amused; this guy was so authoritarian, even a phone call upset him?
Watching him return to the bay window, I hesitated before saying, “If you have to stay here at night, come squeeze in bed… it’s not like we haven’t before…”
He glanced at me, seemingly assessing whether I was serious.
I didn’t say more, wrapping myself in the quilt, shrinking to the edge of the bed, leaving half of it for him.
When my phone alarm went off the next day, I was alone in the room, unsure if he had come to bed at all.
My WeChat was nearly blown up by Song Wei… She sent many messages, all along the lines of: Ahahaha, sorry for disturbing your sweet moment!
Sweet moment my foot…
But her last message was a bit eye-catching: You guys are living together, huh? Make sure to use protection~!
Pregnant… I touched my lower abdomen, feeling only an occasional warmth, and wondered, should I get a test?
