Chapter 48 What others have, his delicate little educated youth must also have
He had to admit that he had fallen for this soft and delicate little educated youth.
Shamefully, he wanted to hug her, kiss her… even bully her until she was crying and softly begging him like that day…
Xie Yu had never thought that he had such a base and despicable side, and that made him even more afraid to move his already-reacting body. He could only stiffly watch as Chang Suisui slowly came closer and closer to him.
Just as their noses were about to touch, Chang Suisui suddenly turned her head and shifted to his side.
Xie Yu was stunned for a moment, and then watched as Chang Suisui reached over and picked up the lunchbox next to him.
Xie Yu: “……”
Seeing his flushed cheeks and ears that looked like they were about to bleed from embarrassment, Chang Suisui couldn’t help but laugh to herself.
She had almost impulsively kissed him just now. But seeing how Xie Yu sat stiffly on the bed with his neck taut in resistance, she naturally didn’t dare to tease him further. If she really stole a kiss, who knew how long this upright man would avoid her? That would be a loss rather than a gain.
Thinking this through, Chang Suisui smiled sweetly and waved the lunchbox in her hand, “Got it.”
Since she was going to marry Xie Yu anyway, there was no rush to get everything done in a day or two. Once they got their marriage certificate, hmmph… she’d be legally certified! If she couldn’t get him then, she’d just have to prepare some special tricks!
Xie Yu awkwardly rubbed his fingers. Looking at her innocent little face, his heart softened again.
“My sister-in-law is very vengeful. She definitely won’t let go of what happened today. You should be extra careful…”
Although he had someone following her for protection, Qian Weimin still had work to do in the village and couldn’t guard her 24/7. Xie Yu was worried that when Qian Weimin wasn’t around, Zhao Xiulan might try something. So this was all he could do—warn her.
To Chang Suisui, this kind of small matter was of course clear. But Xie Yu’s concern for her—she gladly accepted it.
Her watery eyes curved into a crescent moon as she looked at him and winked playfully, “If you’re so worried about me, why don’t you just marry me sooner~?”
“……”
Xie Yu felt a tremor in his chest, and then solemnly nodded. “Mm. I understand.”
If he could, he wished he could marry her right now. But he couldn’t do that. His little educated youth deserved to become his wife openly and with dignity. He wouldn’t let her suffer injustice. Whatever others had, his little sweetheart must have too.
As he watched Chang Suisui walk further and further away, Xie Yu secretly made up his mind…
The next day, the commotion at Xie Yu’s house was practically known by everyone in the village.
The moment Chang Suisui stepped into the courtyard after getting up, she was met with a bunch of curious stares. Li Chunhua, unable to hold back, rushed over.
“Chang Zhiqing, are you really going to marry Xie Yu? I heard he’s a cripple!”
Chang Suisui: “……”
Her eyelid twitched—she had absolutely no interest in explaining anything to this gossip-loving woman.
Luckily, Zhang Fen rushed over and yanked Li Chunhua back, “Chang Zhiqing, Chunhua’s just worried about you.”
She glanced at Chang Suisui with some concern. After all, she’d just been betrayed by her fiancé, and now her family was making her swap marriages with a cripple. Anyone would be devastated.
Especially with how emotionally unstable Chang Suisui had been lately.
Zhang Fen was worried about her but was more afraid she’d go nuts again and beat Li Chunhua into a hospital bed.
Li Chunhua also seemed to realize that what she’d just said wasn’t very appropriate. She quickly added, “Chang Zhiqing, I didn’t mean to mock you. I just don’t want you marrying a cripple…”
The corners of Chang Suisui’s lips twitched, and she gave Li Chunhua a fake smile. “He has a name—Xie Yu—and he was once an outstanding soldier!”
She absolutely hated it when people used the word “cripple” to define him.
If he hadn’t been injured, he’d still be in his unit, shining bright and carrying the weight for the people. As beneficiaries of his sacrifices, they had no right to judge him!
Li Chunhua was frightened by Chang Suisui’s icy gaze and quickly apologized, “I’m sorry, Chang Zhiqing. I was wrong! But… are you really going to marry Comrade Xie?”
Chang Suisui wasn’t surprised by her attitude. She pursed her lips and nodded seriously, “Yes. It’s an arrangement made by our parents and the matchmaker. I also admire Comrade Xie, so I’m willing to marry him.”
Her words were so straightforward that both Li Chunhua and Zhang Fen were stunned.
They’d thought Chang Suisui would be heartbroken after being swapped into a marriage with a disabled man. But it seemed like they’d been overthinking it…
Meanwhile, Zhao Hang, who had just come out of the kitchen, had a deeply furrowed brow.
His eyes scanned Chang Suisui back and forth, full of confusion.
This woman had been obedient to him before she was sent to the countryside. Even after arriving, she was still hard-working and loyal. Whether it was money or ration tickets, she always prioritized him.
So how could she suddenly be willing to marry someone else?
Zhao Hang always thought Chang Suisui had thrown a tantrum last time because she was upset seeing him get close to Chang Meili. Though he did want to marry Chang Meili, under pressure from the village head, he figured marrying Chang Suisui wasn’t out of the question either—so long as she went back to being obedient.
To better keep her under control, he even considered collaborating with Zhao Xiulan yesterday to give her a little “lesson.”
But what had he just heard?
Chang Suisui agreed to marry Xie Yu?
That cripple?!
She was just doing this to spite him—she must be!
He thought giving her the cold shoulder would make her realize her mistake and be more submissive. But who knew she’d become even more outrageous?
Zhao Hang felt like he’d just been metaphorically cuckolded. His eyes filled with resentment as he stared at Chang Suisui.
“Chang Zhiqing, come here. I’ve got something to say to you!” Zhao Hang walked over to her and practically ground out the words from between his clenched teeth. He then jerked his chin, signaling her to follow him aside.
Chang Suisui glanced at Zhao Hang and had zero intention of entertaining this scumbag.
“I have nothing to say to you.”
With that, she walked over to the water vat.
She had only used the kettle water to wipe her face in the room and hadn’t brushed her teeth yet. So she scooped a ladle of water from the vat into her enamel basin.
Just as she was about to carry the basin back to her room, Zhao Hang once again blocked her.
“Chang Suisui, did you not understand what I just said? If you keep acting like this, I won’t be so easy to appease!”
“???”
Chang Suisui’s face instantly turned into a giant question mark.
What on earth had she done that gave Zhao Hang the delusional idea that he was the one being wronged here?!
Zhao Hang saw that she didn’t respond and thought his words had finally intimidated her. He raised his chin again, arrogance in his eyes as he looked at her—
