Chapter 146: Not Everything is Worth Forgiving
Xia Mengyao, hiding in the room, trembled unconsciously.
Zhou Sheng, unaware of the situation, was enraged seeing Wen Qingchuan aggressively bullying his wife.
“What’s the big deal between neighbors? Just let it go for my sake,” he pleaded.
Wen Qingchuan was unyielding: “How much face can Platoon Leader Zhou have? I’m not here to cause trouble.
I just want Sister Xia to apologize to my nephew and never say such things again.”
His voice, though quiet, drew everyone out.
The military district’s wake-up call was still ringing, but Zhou Sheng’s voice boomed through the radio: “What can she say to the child?
Why are you here so early in the morning if you’re not looking for trouble!”
Then, he shouted to Xia Mengyao in the room: “Come out quickly and tell me what happened!”
It was the first time he heard an adult apologize to a child.
Zhou Sheng usually disliked Wen Qingchuan, and today he was eager for a fight.
However, Wen Qingchuan remained indifferent throughout, seemingly unwilling to engage with Zhou Sheng further.
Furious and unable to vent his anger, Zhou Sheng turned on Xia Mengyao.
She emerged slowly, her first words: “What are you talking about? When did I say anything about this kid?”
In the past, Gu Zhen wouldn’t bother to respond to Xia Mengyao, but this time was different.
Seeing a growing crowd, he felt nervous.
Uncle Ke Wen held his hand, rough yet warm, a stark contrast to his father’s.
Gu Zhen silently encouraged himself: “I said, you said I am an illegitimate child!”
His voice was cold, piercing everyone’s hearts.
Xia Mengyao was stunned: “Aren’t you a mute!”
Everyone in the compound knew Shen Sangyu had brought back a mute child. They whispered it was her out-of-wedlock child with her partner, unwanted due to his silence.
Many people were saying Wen Qingchuan was happy to be a father.
Gu Zhen, unhappy being called a mute, wanted to refute, but his underdeveloped language skills hindered him.
Shen Sangyu said sternly, “Who are you calling a little mute? I think you said these things in front of the child because Gu Zhen can’t speak.
You didn’t see clearly what those military wives said after they spread rumors about me before. Do you want to try it today?”
She was referring to the cafeteria incident. Because of the rumors, those military wives not only apologized on the spot, but their husbands were also criticized and educated by their leaders, missing out on year-end evaluations.
Though Xia Mengyao had money, it was a small amount. Hearing Shen Sangyu’s words, she turned pale.
Subconsciously denying, she said, “I don’t know what you are talking about.”
“Don’t rush to deny it, just tell me whether you have said these things to Gu Zhen?”
Xia Mengyao wanted to shake her head, but she stuttered, unable to speak under Shen Sangyu’s frosty gaze.
“I…”
Seeing her silence, Shen Sangyu said coldly: “If you don’t speak, it means you admit it?
Xia Mengyao, you don’t like me normally, and I won’t provoke you, but how can you bully a child?
People who don’t know would think that your family education is like this.”
She narrowed her eyes slightly, looking at Zhou Sheng indifferently, radiating coldness: “Captain Zhou, what do you think?”
Zhou Sheng’s back was drenched in cold sweat.
He hadn’t seen Shen Sangyu for months, but he had heard her name.
He knew she frequented restaurants, lived luxuriously, and had a fierce personality.
Later, after being pushed down the stairs by Zhou Xinghua, she had changed drastically.
But it must be said that Shen Sangyu now frightened him.
Zhou Sheng dared not meet her eyes, turning his head suddenly and slapping Xia Mengyao in the face.
Her face tilted, half of it turning red, bloodshot visible.
Shen Sangyu disliked Xia Mengyao’s words to the child, but she also looked down on Zhou Sheng for beating his wife.
“Platoon Leader Zhou, do you want everyone to see you domestically beating your wife here?” she reminded.
Zhou Sheng saw no wrong in teaching his wife a lesson.
He glanced at Shen Sangyu, still angry, and said to Xia Mengyao: “Hurry up and apologize to me!”
Xia Mengyao looked up in disbelief, her tearful eyes filled with shock.
“Why should I, an adult, apologize to a child! Can’t I just joke with him!”
Zhou Sheng was furious.
He didn’t expect Wen Qingchuan and Shen Sangyu to hold on to this.
He had said it just to give them a way out.
But now it seemed they were waiting for this!
His face livid, he said sarcastically: “You ask me? You should ask Captain Wen! If they don’t forgive you, you should apologize until they forgive you.”
Unexpectedly, Wen Qingchuan said seriously: “Don’t apologize to me, but to Gu Zhen.”
Zhou Sheng was so angry he fell backwards. He walked to Wen Qingchuan, lowering his voice: “Wen Qingchuan, don’t go too far.”
Wen Qingchuan didn’t even bother to look at him.
“Platoon Leader Zhou, you should know the rules of the military region. If you don’t apologize, I will go to Political Commissar Lin.”
Then, he looked at Cao Ruyue’s supplies.
Zhou Sheng’s face grew even uglier.
Finally, he said: “Xia Mengyao, apologize to this child!”
Xia Mengyao glanced at her husband’s face, knowing she had embarrassed him today and wouldn’t get away with it.
Unable to bring herself to apologize to a child, she begged for mercy: “Sangyu, I am an adult after all. Apologizing to a child is really…”
“You can’t even apologize, but you blurt out hurtful words?” Shen Sangyu said bluntly: “Hurry up and apologize. My man has to go to training later. Don’t waste time here.”
Xia Mengyao’s pale face flushed red.
“Yes, I’m sorry.”
Shen Sangyu smiled, lowering her head and blinking her long eyelashes: “Xiao Zhen, do you want to forgive him?”
Gu Zhen looked up in confusion.
Shen Sangyu explained: “Not everything is worth forgiving. It’s okay if you don’t want to forgive.”
Gu Zhen opened his eyes wide and looked at Xia Mengyao without hesitation: “She is a bad person, don’t forgive her.”
Shen Sangyu hummed: “Then let’s stay away from her in the future.”
Shen Sangyu went back under the murderous gaze of Zhou Sheng and his wife.
