Chapter 58: Return Home
Shen Sangyu had only three or four hours of sleep for several days in a row.
But she knew that time was running out. It was extremely difficult to successfully test-fly the plane in one year.
Shen Sangyu explained the principles and sometimes even operated them.
Although many people in the institute didn’t quite understand many things, there were so many geniuses here that they would grasp everything they needed to know with just a little hint.
More than half a month passed in a flash, and Shen Sangyu called Wen Qingchuan on time every day to report that she was safe.
Qin Duanshan was getting more and more satisfied with Shen Sangyu. He even considered letting her work directly in the institute but thought that this would be against the rules; he wanted her to go to college first.
“Sangyu, you can get into a better university in the future. As soon as you graduate, I will immediately invite you to the institute. How about that?”
During these days, Qin Duanshan had come to regard Shen Sangyu as his protégé.
At first, he thought she only knew some advanced theories, but he soon discovered that her hands-on ability was also impressive.
Qin Duanshan had already recognized Shen Sangyu as a key talent to cultivate.
Now the country was truly short on talent.
He had asked Shen Sangyu before about her background; after all, her theoretical knowledge came from the uncles around her, but he found out that those people were later sent down, some had died, and some had gone mad.
In the end, Qin Duanshan had to give up on that line of inquiry.
Shen Sangyu admired Qin Duanshan greatly, so she naturally agreed with whatever he suggested.
“Teacher Qin, what else could I disagree with your words? I estimate that my work will be almost done in half a month.
Can I take a leave to go home tomorrow?”
Qin Duanshan was reluctant.
Shen Sangyu had no choice but to say, “It’s a bit hot now, and my clothes are not suitable.”
Qin Duanshan relented but still insisted that Shen Sangyu should go early and return early, fearing that she might not come back after leaving.
Shen Sangyu found it amusing, but it was indeed a waste of time to go back and forth.
With Qin Duanshan’s approval, Shen Sangyu started packing her luggage after work that night and was sent out of the experimental base before dawn.
The black Bentley passed through many checkpoints and finally arrived in the familiar Sijiu City.
It had only been half a month, but Shen Sangyu felt something was different when she looked at the scenery outside the car window.
The car stopped at the gate of the military area, and the driver handed Shen Sangyu’s luggage to her. “Be careful.”
Shen Sangyu nodded, “Thank you for your hard work.”
The driver shook his head, saying he would pick her up the day after tomorrow afternoon.
Shen Sangyu thought about it; she could at least rest for a day and a half, and she could go to the supply and marketing cooperative to buy clothes tomorrow.
Qin Duanshan had given her 75 yuan before, saying that although she was not a formal researcher at the institute, she should at least be compensated for her work, so she would be paid 5 yuan a day in the future.
After a month, her salary was even higher than Wen Qingchuan’s!
Shen Sangyu walked into the military area with the 75 yuan tightly in her hand.
However, as soon as she arrived at the gate, she saw a figure hurriedly walking in the distance. Shen Sangyu was stunned for a moment: “Wen Qingchuan!”
Shen Sangyu’s eyes widened.
Wen Qingchuan should have been training or in a meeting at this time in the past; why did he come here suddenly?
Shen Sangyu ran over, “Wen Qingchuan, why did you come out?”
Wen Qingchuan looked Shen Sangyu up and down, and seeing that she hadn’t lost much weight, he said honestly, “I took an hour off to pick you up. How are you doing in the institute?
Are you used to the food? I bought some soaked cowpeas from Mrs. Cao today. I’ll make fried cowpeas with meat for you.
It can be kept for at least a week, so you can take it with you when the time comes.”
Wen Qingchuan didn’t talk much on weekdays, so Shen Sangyu was taken aback by his sudden flow of words.
Wen Qingchuan noticed her silence and quickly asked, “What’s wrong? Are you too tired? You should go back and rest first.”
“No… I just didn’t expect you to have so much to say to me when we met.”
Wen Qingchuan shifted slightly, “Don’t you like it when I talk too much?”
“No!” Shen Sangyu quickly shook her head. “I didn’t say that! But you usually talk so little; it’s rare for you to say such a long sentence. I’m just a bit surprised.”
After that, Shen Sangyu looked up at the man next to her, “Keep it up in the future.”
Wen Qingchuan was stunned; he felt his face getting hot. By the time he reacted, Shen Sangyu had already walked ahead, so he couldn’t see her expression.
Along the way, Wen Qingchuan walked silently behind Shen Sangyu, the flush on his face fading after a while.
Wen Qingchuan opened the door for Shen Sangyu and said, “I only asked for an hour’s leave, so I’ll have to go back later. Let’s eat outside the military area tonight; you can rest for a while.”
Shen Sangyu nodded and praised him the next second, “Okay, and you talked a bit more; keep it up.”
Buzz!
Wen Qingchuan’s mind was filled with Shen Sangyu’s words, and the blush that had faded suddenly returned.
He turned around quickly, but his voice was not as steady as before, “You… have a good rest!”
After that, Wen Qingchuan took two steps forward but ended up tripping over his own feet, almost stumbling.
Shen Sangyu watched him leave, finally breaking into laughter.
“You really can’t help but praise me.”
Her earlobes were red, as if they were dripping blood. Did he think she didn’t notice?
Shen Sangyu fell asleep in a good mood. When she woke up, it was already five o’clock in the afternoon.
She heard the sound of Wen Qingchuan opening the door outside and sat up.
Wen Qingchuan returned soon.
It was getting dark later now. Wen Qingchuan stood at the door against the light, a soft glow surrounding him.
Shen Sangyu was stunned for a long time without saying anything until Wen Qingchuan walked in and reached out to touch her forehead.
The rough and warm palm touched her forehead, and Shen Sangyu instinctively shrank back.
Wen Qingchuan paused for a moment and then quickly retracted his hand.
In the past few months, the relationship between him and Shen Sangyu had improved, but it wasn’t so intimate that he could touch her forehead casually.
Wen Qingchuan’s heart tightened, and he subconsciously said, “I’m sorry…”
“I was distracted just now; I didn’t notice your hand and was startled… What?”
Shen Sangyu originally wanted to explain why she avoided the touch, but after hearing Wen Qingchuan’s apology, she waved her hand dismissively, “What are you talking about?”
Wen Qingchuan was slightly relieved to see that Shen Sangyu really didn’t care.
“I thought you didn’t react because you were tired or unwell these days.”
Shen Sangyu didn’t mind, but Wen Qingchuan didn’t want her to misunderstand, so he casually explained.
He still remembered what Shen Sangyu said before: if there were any issues between them, they could communicate well and explain when necessary, rather than letting the other party overthink emotional matters.
After Wen Qingchuan finished speaking, he continued, “I’ll go take a shower first, and we can go out for dinner later.”
Shen Sangyu naturally agreed.
Wen Qingchuan moved quickly, boiling water and taking a bath in half an hour.
He changed into the clothes that Shen Sangyu had bought for him and went out.
