Chapter 60: Ex-boyfriend is Here
The next day, when Shen Sangyu woke up, Wen Qingchuan had already prepared breakfast.
The morning breeze in the city felt refreshing. Shen Sangyu put on a coat and stepped outside.
When she saw that today’s buns were filled with potatoes, her eyes lit up with delight.
Wen Qingchuan had noticed earlier that Shen Sangyu loved everything about potatoes, so he handed her a bun and explained, “I made the porridge, and I brought the buns back from the canteen.”
Shen Sangyu took a bite of the potato bun. The bright red peppers mixed with the potato created a unique and delicious flavor.
“Delicious.”
The buns in the north are quite large, and Shen Sangyu felt full after just one.
Wen Qingchuan sent her to the gate of the military district as usual, and he left quickly after Shen Sangyu got into the car.
Shen Sangyu had come to the city this time primarily to submit the manuscript that she had been behind on for a month.
Mao Jie was very easy to talk to; he wasn’t angry that she couldn’t complete the task in time due to her previous injury.
Instead, he encouraged her to take her time and relax. However, she estimated that she could only handle translation work before she started university.
After that, she would need to expand her network and connect with more scientific research talents.
Once she officially began her research, the translation work would have to come to a stop.
Secondly, Xu Weiguo had called a few days ago to inform her that the steelmaking drawings had been adopted.
Gu Linzhang had applied for an honorary certificate and a reward of 200 yuan.
Two hundred yuan sounded like a lot in this era, but Xu Weiguo understood that the value brought by Shen Sangyu’s drawings was far greater than that.
If it were up to him, she should receive at least a bonus of 2,000 yuan.
Xu Weiguo had wanted to send the money and the certificate to the military region earlier, but after calling to confirm, he learned that Shen Sangyu was participating in a secret experiment at the base, so the money was kept for her.
When Shen Sangyu took the money from Mao Jie, she mentioned that she would be at the base for the next half month.
Mao Jie, having often worked as a temporary translator, understood that Shen Sangyu had signed a confidentiality agreement and didn’t pry further.
“There’s no rush for translation work. There are more books to translate now, and the publishing house won’t produce them quickly.
The matters at the research institute are more important.”
Shen Sangyu felt relieved and then headed to the steel plant to collect her 200 yuan bonus.
When Xu Weiguo saw her arrive, he carefully took out the certificate of honor. Shen Sangyu glanced at it; the words were written in a classic style that spoke to its age.
“Director Xu, I’m here to get the money.”
Xu Weiguo, who wanted to present the certificate of honor as if it were a sacred relic, felt a mix of pride and exasperation: “…”
In Xu Weiguo’s resigned gaze, he first handed the certificate of honor to Shen Sangyu, telling her to keep it safe after returning.
Shen Sangyu nodded and then accepted the 200 yuan.
Before she could leave, Xu Weiguo murmured, “This is a certificate of honor; why aren’t you excited?”
Shen Sangyu: “…”
It wasn’t that she wasn’t excited; it was just that she was used to it.
In her previous life, her trophies and certificates of honor had filled an entire room. The thrill of winning awards had faded after the initial excitement wore off.
Yet, she couldn’t share this with Director Xu; he might be so upset he’d choke on his own indignation.
Still, it was the first certificate of honor she received after traveling through time.
Shen Sangyu took a closer look at it, touched the red velvet covering, and carefully placed it in her newly bought cloth pouch.
Xu Weiguo didn’t say much as Shen Sangyu hurried along, eager to accomplish her tasks.
She made her way directly to the supply and marketing cooperative to buy clothes.
The offerings in the supply and marketing cooperative were mostly outdated. People on the street wore similar styles.
Summer clothes should be easier to find, so she could draw a design and take it to a tailor shop for alteration.
But it was getting late, so Shen Sangyu bought a few suitable clothes and asked the cooperative to pack them up.
She was a familiar face at the supply and marketing cooperative, known to the employees there.
Summer clothes were much cheaper, so she also bought two pieces for Wen Qingchuan, and the total cost only came to 38 yuan.
Shen Sangyu felt that women’s happiness was easy to satisfy. Although these clothes weren’t beautiful enough to win her over, buying new clothes fulfilled her shopping desire, and she felt like she was walking on air.
But just as she was enjoying her happiness, someone spoiled the mood.
“Who are you?”
Shen Sangyu looked at the very young man standing in front of her with cold eyes.
The man was fair-skinned and about 1.7 meters tall, but his eyes were bruised and swollen as if he had been in a fight.
At that moment, the young man suddenly grabbed her wrist with considerable force, and Shen Sangyu couldn’t break free.
“If you don’t let go, I’ll call someone. Be careful, you might get arrested for hooliganism!”
The punishment for hooliganism in this era was quite severe. Hearing this, the young man immediately released her, but pain flashed in his eyes.
Yet Shen Sangyu didn’t care. After he let go, she turned and walked away.
“Sangyu!”
Suddenly, the man called out to her, and Shen Sangyu stopped in her tracks.
Does this person know me?
She slowly turned around, looking at the man suspiciously, and then a realization hit her: “Are you Zhou Ruian?”
Zhou Ruian’s eyes brightened upon hearing her call his name, “It’s me! I heard Ye Ling say that you’ve lost your memory, and I thought you didn’t remember me just now.”
Although Shen Sangyu didn’t understand why Zhou Ruian was looking for her, it was evident he had been waiting for her.
“I really don’t remember, and there’s no need to contact me in the future.”
Shen Sangyu didn’t have a good impression of Ye Ling, the original owner’s best friend.
Last time, when she asked Ye Ling for money, Ye Ling probably knew how the original owner was, so she collected the money and returned it the next day.
As for the consequences of needing to pay back such a large sum, she didn’t care at all.
Zhou Ruian had been the boyfriend of the original owner, but from his tone, he seemed to have a good relationship with Ye Ling.
This led Shen Sangyu to conclude that Zhou Ruian wasn’t a good guy either.
And indeed, she had forgotten about him.
“Sangyu, are you still angry with me? It’s my fault. Please give me another chance; I really can’t live without you!”
Without a second thought, Shen Sangyu shot back, “If you can’t live, then just die!”
“What, what?” Zhou Ruian was taken aback, completely at a loss.
Shen Sangyu sneered, “You said you don’t want to make me angry? But have you come to see me in the past six months?
Besides, I’m married now. What kind of chance do you want me to give you?”
Zhou Ruian spoke with false bravado, “I know you don’t want to marry that man. Divorce him, and I’ll support you!”
Zhou Ruian was only slightly taller than Shen Sangyu, and even though his eyes were lowered, he could still see the disgust in Shen Sangyu’s gaze.
Then, Shen Sangyu slowly said, “Get out!”
