Chapter 12
Jiang Manyue had been thinking for a long time before she finally decided to do an experiment.
She walked over to the shoe display shelf, took the pair of shoes in the first compartment of the first row, and left the space directly, placing the shoes on her bed.
After making sure the shoes were properly placed on the bed, Jiang Manyue returned to the space and looked at the compartment where she had taken the shoes — to her surprise, an identical pair of shoes had reappeared!
Her eyes widened in disbelief.
So it wasn’t her memory playing tricks on her — this supermarket really could restore the items she took!
Jiang Manyue took the same pair of shoes again from the same compartment, went back to her room, and saw the original pair still lying on the bed. She placed the new pair next to it.
Back in the space again, sure enough, the same compartment now held yet another identical pair of shoes.
Jiang Manyue was finally convinced: as long as the item originally existed in the supermarket, once she took it, the item would regenerate in its original place.
In other words, the supermarket’s supplies were infinite — no matter how much she took, she could never empty it!
The realization hit her like a bolt of joy. She was stunned for a long moment before letting out an excited scream.
Her supermarket supplies were unlimited! She could use these materials to trade for startup capital in the future!
After riding out her excitement, Jiang Manyue suddenly remembered — there were two gold shops outside the supermarket in the mall!
Her breath quickened. If the items in the gold stores could also regenerate, and she had access to endless gold, she could instantly become the world’s richest person!
With that thought, she hurried to the gold shop to test it out.
Unfortunately, after repeated experiments, she found that once gold was taken, it wouldn’t regenerate — unlike the supermarket items, it wasn’t infinitely duplicable.
Jiang Manyue tested a few other stores in the mall and found that only the supermarket and the pharmacy had items that could be infinitely restored. The rest didn’t work that way.
Maybe this was the balance between a cheat ability and its limitations?
Though her dream of becoming the richest person was temporarily dashed, Jiang Manyue was still satisfied. Having unlimited access to supermarket goods and pharmacy supplies was already an incredible bonus.
After calming herself down, she took out some breakfast from the supermarket and ate it. Once she was done, she found herself idle again.
The original owner of her body didn’t work or do house chores — she was the lazy type — so now, as Jiang Manyue waited for the day of her next transaction, she also found herself with nothing to do.
Although she was bored, she had no intention of picking up chores. If her mother found out she was doing work, she’d be so heartbroken she’d come over and question the Lu family elders for overworking her daughter. It was better to avoid trouble.
Besides, the original owner wasn’t capable of doing much anyway — cooking was already beyond her usual abilities. If she suddenly started working hard, it would look too suspicious.
To maintain the original persona, Jiang Manyue stayed lazy at home for another two days and only got up early to head to the county on the day of the scheduled trade.
Since the original owner often went out to the county just to buy snacks and idle around, Li Guifen and Lu Qingyou were used to her frequent outings.
Thankfully, the original owner had such a habit — now Jiang Manyue didn’t need an excuse and could go to the county freely and without suspicion.
Once she arrived in the county, she skillfully changed her appearance and headed to the black market.
While passing by an area where ticket scalpers gathered, she asked if there were any bicycle purchase tickets available.
Unfortunately, none of the scalpers had any. Most people who came to the black market were more in need of daily supply coupons and industrial goods coupons. Those wanting to buy bicycles typically had proper jobs and didn’t have trouble getting tickets.
Jiang Manyue was a bit disappointed — without a bicycle ticket, her plan to buy one was on hold again.
One scalper noticed her disappointment and offered, “Miss, if you’re serious about wanting one, I can try to source it for you. Maybe in a few days I can get my hands on one.”
Jiang Manyue nodded quickly. “I’m definitely serious. I’ve had my eye on a women’s bicycle at the state-owned store, but I haven’t been able to buy it without a ticket.”
“Alright then, I’ll see what I can do. I’m usually around here, so next time you come by, just ask me. If I’ve managed to get a ticket, I’ll sell it to you. If not, there’s nothing I can do — bicycle tickets are pretty rare and hard to come by.”
The scalper gave her a heads-up. Jiang Manyue wasn’t too concerned. If she couldn’t get a ticket, she just wouldn’t buy the bike. Walking a bit more wasn’t a big deal — she could treat it as exercise.
“Alright, I’ll be on my way. I’ll check with you next time I come by.”
With that, Jiang Manyue made her way into the black market, heading straight for the backyard shop she had visited before.
Scarface was already waiting in the courtyard. Seeing Jiang Manyue arrive, he visibly relaxed a little.
“I never asked — what’s your name, miss?”
Scarface poured Jiang Manyue a cup of water and pointed to himself. “I’m Zhou Laosan, but everyone just calls me Third Brother. What about you?”
The name Zhou Laosan clearly wasn’t his real name. Jiang Manyue figured it was a precaution — people in the black market probably all used fake names. So she casually made one up.
“I’m An Ran. You can just call me An Ran.”
That was the name of a close friend from her previous life. She couldn’t think of anything else at the moment, so she borrowed it.
Zhou Laosan nodded. “An Ran, where’s the goods?”
As he spoke, he patted his chest — it was bulging under his clothes, clearly stuffed with something.
Jiang Manyue stood up. “With so many leather shoes, how could I carry them on me? And bringing them directly would be too conspicuous. I stashed them somewhere — just come with me.”
Zhou Laosan stood and followed her. They walked for quite a while until they arrived at the small courtyard Jiang Manyue had rented.
“This place is pretty far — almost outside the county,” Zhou Laosan said casually.
Jiang Manyue was proud. “In this line of work, are you gonna keep your warehouse out in the open for everyone to see?”
As she spoke, she pushed open the gate and led Zhou Laosan into the room where the shoes were stored.
“One hundred eighty pairs of women’s shoes, one hundred fifty pairs of men’s shoes — three hundred thirty pairs in total. Want to double-check them?”
Zhou Laosan shook his head. “No need. In business, trust is everything. If you say three hundred thirty pairs, I won’t question it. Otherwise, no one in the black market would want to do business with you again.”
He didn’t bother verifying the quantity and instead pulled out a large paper bag from his clothes and started counting the money right there.
“Three hundred thirty pairs at fifteen yuan each — that’s four thousand nine hundred fifty yuan total.”
Zhou Laosan quickly counted out the amount, forming several thick stacks.
Then he pulled out a smaller paper bag and put the rest of his money inside, leaving the payment in the large one and handing it to Jiang Manyue.
Just like him, Jiang Manyue didn’t bother counting it — she stuffed the money straight into her clothes.
