Chapter 13 : Thicker skin than the city wall!
Before she could finish speaking, she was interrupted by Zhou Tingyue!
“I’m not disabled, I don’t need her to take care of me. I can wash the clothes and cook for her! She doesn’t need to worry about making money, my monthly salary is more than enough to cover her daily expenses!”
As he spoke, he turned to look at Song Shiwei and saw that she was gazing at him with starry eyes! The admiration on her face was too obvious!
Feeling pleased, he smiled gently and said, “I’m saying this from my heart. It’s not for appearances or for any other reason, it’s my promise to you! Weiwei, don’t worry. I, Zhou Tingyue, will treat you well for the rest of my life! I’ll protect you! I will never let anyone bully you again!”
Song Shiwei nodded vigorously, tears welling up in her eyes. But in her heart, she couldn’t help thinking: ‘This man is too good… How lucky was I to catch him at that hotel…Wow…I’m so touched!’
She was overwhelmed with emotion, but across from her, Song Yingying was absolutely livid. Not only was she furious, but she also felt like she had just been force-fed a stomach full of dog food (public displays of affection) and wanted to vomit!
At that moment, Feng Chunmei hurried over.
The moment her eyes landed on Song Shiwei, her face showed obvious displeasure.
But when she saw Zhou Tingyue, her expression immediately changed into a fawning smile. The shift was so fast, no one could even compare!
“Oh my, why did Tingyue come outside? Come back in and sit down. Your parents and grandma are discussing your marriage!”
Seeing Feng Chunmei’s overly enthusiastic attitude, Song Shiwei couldn’t help but roll her eyes. How could she not know what this family was scheming?
Since when had her aunt ever been this warm to anyone?
“Aunt, where are my parents? Seeing you like this, I almost thought it was your daughter getting engaged! My boyfriend’s family is here, and instead of calling my parents from the factory, you call Song Yingying instead? What exactly are you trying to do?”
Feng Chunmei’s smile turned awkward.
“How could that be! We already sent someone to call them! Aren’t they here yet?”
If it hadn’t been for Song Shimiao, who was home on summer break, noticing something was off and rushing to call the second brother’s family, Feng Chunmei wouldn’t have let anyone inform them at all. In fact, she had been hoping they would come as late as possible. That way, she could settle Tingyue’s marriage with Yingying first, and the whole matter would have nothing to do with Song Shiwei!
Of course, Song Shiwei didn’t believe a word of it. She snorted coldly and turned around, grabbing Zhou Tingyue’s arm.
“Let’s go in! I want to meet your parents too!”
Zhou Tingyue smiled and nodded.
Afraid that she might feel nervous about meeting her future in-laws, he reassured her gently,
“Alright. My parents are very kind, don’t worry!”
But how could Song Shiwei not know that his parents were good people? She had already recognized them at first glance, they were the couple she had met yesterday.
No wonder her aunt had looked at her so strangely back then, it turned out she had wanted to meet her daughter-in-law in advance!
Thinking of this, she couldn’t help but blush slightly.
This was the first time in her life she had ever experienced something like this!
As the two of them stepped over the threshold, hand in hand, Shen Xiu’e couldn’t help but stand up excitedly.
“Ah, Weiwei, you’re back!”
Song Shiwei knew that Shen Xiu’e’s back injury hadn’t healed yet, so she hurried forward to support her.
“Auntie, sit down! Your back is still injured. Didn’t the doctor tell you to rest in bed for a few more days?”
Shen Xiu’e grasped her hand, smiling as she shook her head.
“My injury isn’t serious. It’s not as important as my daughter-in-law! The most important thing in my heart right now is you and Tingyue!”
Zhou Runde also laughed from the side “Yes, your aunt has been talking about you in my ear since yesterday! When Tingyue came back today and found out he was coming to your house, how could she hold it in!”
Zhou Tingyue was a little surprised to see how familiar his parents were with Song Shiwei.
“Mom, Dad, do you… know Weiwei?”
Shen Xiu’e smiled and glanced at Song Shiwei in front of her. The love in her eyes was unmistakable. She then told her son everything that had happened yesterday.
As they were talking, Feng Chunmei and Song Yingying walked in.
Upon hearing that someone had been hit by a cyclist, Feng Chunmei immediately voiced her support, angrily cursing, “I don’t know who was so blind that they actually hit someone with their bike! Not only did they fail to send the person to the hospital immediately, but they didn’t even apologize? What kind of person does that? I don’t know why their parents even gave birth to such a disgrace!”
As soon as she finished speaking, the entire hall fell silent.
Shen Xiu’e, Zhou Runde, and Song Shiwei all turned their gazes to Song Yingying, who had just stepped inside the doorway.
Song Yingying’s face instantly turned red, and she didn’t even dare to lift her head.
How could this be? How could it be her? How did she end up offending Brother Zhou’s mother?
If she had known this earlier, she would never have done that yesterday!
Feng Chunmei and Old Lady Song were still confused.
“W-What happened?”
Zhou Tingyue followed the eyes of his parents and his fiancée, looking toward Song Yingying. Seeing her reaction, he immediately connected the dots.
What else could it be?
At this moment, Song Shiwei burst into laughter.
“Aunt, isn’t that ‘inhuman’ person you were talking about standing right behind you?”
“What?”
Feng Chunmei turned around in confusion, only to see her daughter’s face completely flushed with guilt, looking as if she had been caught doing something wrong.
For a moment, it felt like a landmine had exploded in her mind. With a loud bang, all the plans she had carefully laid out instantly crumbled!
“Yingying, was it you who knocked into her?”
Song Yingying’s eyes turned red with embarrassment.
“Mom, I-I didn’t mean to! I, I… Auntie, I’m sorry!”
Shen Xiu’e, however, wasn’t going to hold a grudge against a younger person.
“It’s okay, it’s okay. I was also at fault, I wasn’t looking at the road at the time! You can’t blame her entirely!”
She was just being polite, but this remark instantly gave Feng Chunmei an opening.
Excited, she rushed forward, pushing Song Shiwei aside and grabbing Shen Xiu’e’s hand.
“Oh, my dear in-law, you’re absolutely right! You know the old saying no fight, no friendship! It looks like you and our Yingying were destined to meet. This is fate! Fate, I tell you!”
At that moment, the expression on Shen Xiu’e’s face was extremely amusing.
She had truly underestimated this woman’s shamelessness.
Thicker than a city wall!
Feeling awkward, she pulled her hand away, unwilling to respond to Feng Chunmei’s nonsense.
But Feng Chunmei continued chattering on.
“Oh, my in-laws are really capable people! They even managed to get a television! These days, forget about owning a TV, even getting a TV ticket is difficult!”
Not to mention all the other fine things they had, women’s watches, sewing machines, semiconductor radios, Maotai liquor… In this era, the standard for a decent wedding was having three rounds and one sound (bicycle, sewing machine, watch, and radio).
But these things weren’t easy to obtain. Aside from the necessary quotas, you also needed industrial coupons and various other tickets. Their family had worked hard just to buy a bicycle!
