Chapter 6 : I will file a marriage report when I return
When she pulled his arm, Zhou Tingyue caught a whiff of a soft, sweet fragrance it was her scent.
In his twenty-nine years of life, he honestly had no experience in dealing with women. As for his ex-wife, to put it bluntly, they had only met a few more times than ordinary strangers. They had never even held hands before he was sent out on a mission.
Song Shiwei felt the stiffness in his arm, looked up, and saw that his entire face was flushed red.
She tried her best not to laugh out loud.
She kept trying.
“I think it’s better to do it today rather than wait for a better day. Why don’t you come to my house and propose today?”
Zhou Tingyue, whose mind was completely scrambled, nodded absentmindedly.
“Okay…”
But the moment the words left his mouth, he snapped back to reality.
“Today? No, not today. I’m out here on duty with my comrades, and I have to hurry back to the army to report. Besides, I didn’t bring much money with me. If I’m going to your house, I can’t show up empty-handed.”
Although Song Shiwei wanted to say she didn’t mind, she knew he was right it would indeed be inappropriate.
But she was anxious.
“How about this? You go back, inform your team, and then come to my house tomorrow to propose. What do you think?”
Zhou Tingyue frowned slightly.
“But… we just started dating. Why are we talking about marriage already?”
As soon as he finished speaking, Song Shiwei’s expression turned serious, and she looked away.
“A great man once said that love without the intention of marriage is just playing around! Could it be that you…”
She was even bringing morals into the discussion.
Zhou Tingyue could only smile helplessly.
Well… it was fast, but he did have feelings for the girl in front of him. Since she didn’t mind, why should he, a grown man, hesitate?
“How about this, I’ll go back and request leave from my team. I’ll try to visit your house and propose in the next couple of days. That way, you can also inform your parents so they can be mentally prepared.”
Only then did Song Shiwei brighten up.
“Okay!”
Just then, a man dressed similarly to Zhou Tingyue waved at him from across the way.
“Zhou Tingyue!!”
It was one of his comrades.
Zhou Tingyue gestured for him to wait. Then, as if he had suddenly remembered something, he quickly pulled a small notebook and a pen from his pocket, scribbled down his name, address, and a phone number, and handed it to Song Shiwei.
“My name is Zhou Tingyue. This is my unit’s address and the regiment’s phone number. If you need anything, you can call me or write to me!”
Song Shiwei nodded eagerly and took the paper.
Looking at the neat and elegant handwriting, the corners of her lips curled up unconsciously.
“My name is Song Shiwei Shi, as in ‘time,’ and Wei, as in ‘smile.’”
As she spoke, she took the notebook and pen from his hands.
With a few swift strokes, she wrote down her home address and the phone number of a nearby convenience store.
“Don’t forget to apply for leave when you go back. And if you get approval, call me and let me know!”
Zhou Tingyue smiled and nodded, but his mind kept repeating her name.
Song Shiwei… Song Shiwei… what a nice name.
He carefully tucked the notebook away. Then, he instinctively reached out, wanting to ruffle her hair, but hesitated and started to pull his hand back.
Noticing his hesitation, Song Shiwei suddenly grabbed his big hand, placed it on top of her head, and looked up at him with a bright smile.
“If you want to touch me, just do it! I’m your girlfriend!”
Zhou Tingyue couldn’t help but laugh.
He gently ruffled her hair, and in that moment, the joy in his heart expanded infinitely perhaps even more than the happiness of winning a medal.
This feeling was completely new to him. It was his first time experiencing it, but he liked it very much.
He bent down slightly, leaning in closer to Song Shiwei.
“Little girl, wait for me!”
Song Shiwei watched as his handsome face suddenly came into close view, and her heart couldn’t help but race.
Even though she was a modern woman, she still blushed.
She pursed her lips and nodded slightly.
“Mm!”
From the other side, his comrade Wang Chuanling shouted, “Tingyue! Let’s go! If we don’t leave now, we’ll miss the boat!”
Zhou Tingyue took one last reluctant look at Song Shiwei before turning around and striding toward the other side.
Song Shiwei called after him, “Don’t forget what you promised me!”
Zhou Tingyue waved back.
“Don’t worry! Just stay home and wait for my call!”
Wang Chuanling, who had overheard his words, couldn’t help but glance curiously at Song Shiwei.
But time was tight, and their mission was important, so as soon as Zhou Tingyue arrived, the two of them hurried to the station. After taking the bus, they had to transfer to a boat. If they didn’t hurry, they might miss the last one!
Once they successfully boarded the boat, Wang Chuanling leaned in toward Zhou Tingyue with a mysterious smile.
“Hey, who was that little girl just now?”
Zhou Tingyue curled his lips slightly.
“My girlfriend.”
His tone was calm and casual, but to Wang Chuanling, it was like a bolt of lightning.
“Your girlfriend???”
His face was full of disbelief, he thought Zhou Tingyue was joking!
“When did you get a girlfriend?”
“Just now.”
Wang Chuanling couldn’t believe it. They had known each other for at least ten years, he knew Zhou Tingyue’s situation better than anyone!
How was it possible that he suddenly had a girlfriend just from going out on a mission?
Still shocked, Wang Chuanling stared at him, but when he saw that Zhou Tingyue wasn’t joking, he became even more surprised.
Seeing his reaction, Zhou Tingyue smiled seriously.
“I’m telling the truth. When I get back, I’m going to submit a marriage report.”
Wang Chuanling felt like his brain was overloaded with shocking news, and he couldn’t process it for a long time.
When he finally snapped out of it, he immediately punched Zhou Tingyue hard on the shoulder.
“You sly dog, Zhou Tingyue! You came to the inland for a mission and ended up scoring a girlfriend!”
Zhou Tingyue punched him back.
“What do you mean by ‘scoring’? Can you even talk properly? If you can’t, I’ll just assume you’re jealous!”
Wang Chuanling smirked.
“That little girl looks pretty young, doesn’t she?”
“Yeah, she just turned 20. Just the right age to get a marriage certificate!”
Wang Chuanling was so shocked he could’ve stuffed two eggs into his mouth.
“Tsk, tsk, tsk! You really went for it, huh? You old man!”
But despite his teasing, he couldn’t help but secretly observe his old comrade, whom he had worked with for almost ten years. He had always known that Zhou Tingyue was a good-looking guy, handsome and refined.
When he had first joined their squad, some people thought he would be easy to bully because of his delicate features. But during training, he had taken them down in just a few moves!
From then on, no one dared to underestimate him.
Now, ten years had passed in the blink of an eye. Over the years, Wang Chuanling had witnessed Zhou Tingyue’s many military achievements, but he also knew how many times he had been on the brink of death. It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that his current glory had been earned with his life.
But there was one thing, while Zhou Tingyue’s career was soaring, his love life had been at a standstill.
Of course, it wasn’t entirely his fault. After all, he had taken in those four children out of gratitude, choosing to raise them as his own.
Which young girl would be willing to marry someone in his situation?
If this trip really helped him settle his personal matters, then it was definitely a good thing!
Meanwhile, on the other side, Song Shiwei returned to the Song family home and told her parents about what had happened.
Zhao Huili and Song Zhiyong were immediately stunned.
“What?? You have a boyfriend? And he’s coming to propose in a few days?”
