Chapter 104: Making the First Friend

With Chen Mingchuan taking care of things, Li Xinyue naturally didn’t bother.

However, she remembered something else.

“By the way, Wu Xiaohe came by earlier.”

“She said her mom wants us to go to her brother’s house for dinner tonight, but I declined.”

“Why?”

Chen Mingchuan was a little curious.

“I don’t like those two, so I don’t want to go.”

“If you want to go, you go. I’m not going anyway.”

Chen Mingchuan wasn’t a fool; he understood Wu Xiaohe’s gaze completely.

But… could she be jealous?

As soon as this thought popped up, Chen Mingchuan felt suddenly happy.

“I don’t think much of her, and I don’t have any thoughts about women.”

Li Xinyue: “…”

Wow, he doesn’t like girls, does he like boys.

If that were true, Li Xinyue would be thrilled.

“Where did you put the clothes and the blankets?”

“They’re washed and drying outside.”

“Blankets are so heavy, I can’t even lift them. I’ll wash them from now on.”

Li Xinyue’s face twitched: He really did wash them!

This guy, did he get up in the middle of the night to wash clothes and blankets?

Thankfully, she washed her shorts right away, otherwise it would have been so embarrassing…

Cotton blankets are indeed very heavy after soaking in water!

Li Xinyue had an idea: She needed to find time to go to the department store in the provincial capital and see if she could buy a washing machine.

There should be washing machines now.

Of course, making money was the first priority.

Because appliances are currently very expensive.

Going outside, she saw that the clothes and blankets were indeed drying outside.

The countryside has a lot of land, and the houses are far apart.

It’s said that this A Division has been stationed here for nearly thirty years. They chose the location carefully.

The clothes were washed, and Li Xinyue didn’t say much.

But seeing her underwear drying out there made her feel a bit uncomfortable!

She was about to go back inside when she saw someone already inside.

“Sister-in-law, how do you make this wardrobe, can you give me some pointers?”

Xiao Zhang from the Barracks Department was ready and prepared to start work.

Li Xinyue immediately pulled her thoughts back to business: “Xiao Zhang, I drew a diagram, take a look at it first, then I’ll explain it to you.”

“Okay.”

Xiao Zhang immediately agreed.

However, when he saw the drawing, he asked in surprise: “Sister-in-law, did you draw this?”

Li Xinyue nodded: “Yes, can you understand it?”

Of course, he understood it perfectly. Could this sister-in-law have studied something related to building houses?

“Sister-in-law, did you go to university?”

Li Xinyue immediately explained: “No, no, I only finished junior high.”

“But I liked to draw things when I was young, and I also liked to daydream wildly.”

“I learned this from my uncle in the countryside. He builds houses for people.”

No wonder.

But Xiao Zhang felt that this sister-in-law’s learning ability was truly exceptional.

The comrades from the Barracks Department started working, and Li Xinyue took her son out for a walk.

“Hello, Xiao Li, I’m Qian Sanni. My husband is Wang Hao, a staff officer from the Training Department.”

Li Xinyue didn’t know what a staff officer was.

But Qian Sanni looked like she was twenty-six or seven, and her husband should be a deputy battalion-level officer or a technical officer.

“Hello, Sister Qian, just call me Xinyue.”

Qian Sanni chuckled: “Okay, I’ll call you Xinyue. You can call me Sanni. I’m twenty-seven this year.”

“I’m from Peng County. I joined the army last year and haven’t been assigned a job yet.”

“You’re generous, but I’m even more generous,” Li Xinyue said with a smile. “I’m twenty-three years old, so let’s just call each other by our names.”

“Alright, alright!” Qian Sanni, pleased by Li Xinyue’s easygoing nature, agreed. “Xinyue, my place is the fifth one from here. Come in and have a seat.”

Knowing that she needed to integrate to live peacefully here, Li Xinyue readily accepted the invitation. After all, she had grown up in a big family at the orphanage. While she didn’t like pretending, she was willing to make friends.

“Okay, then I’ll bother you for a bit,” Li Xinyue said politely.

“Don’t say that!” Qian Sanni replied.

Qian Sanni’s apartment was similar to the others, with a bedroom, living room, kitchen, bathroom, and a backyard.

After entering, Qian Sanni politely offered Li Xinyue some tea.

“It’s not the best tea, just some tea leaves I brought from my hometown. I don’t know if you’ll like it.”

“I can’t drink tea, so I’ll just have some plain water with you,” Li Xinyue replied.

“Yiyi, come here, have some cucumber,” Qian Sanni said to her son.

Li Xinyue looked at her and asked, “Are you expecting?”

Qian Sanni blushed and nodded. “Yes, this is my second child. I have a daughter, five and a half years old.”

“How old is your son?” Li Xinyue asked.

“He’s four years and three months old, born in June,” Qian Sanni replied.

Qian Sanni chuckled. “I didn’t expect that Chief Chen’s son would be so big already. Wu Liang’s family is still trying to set up his cousin with him.”

“Right, Wu Liang is the assistant in the logistics department,” Li Xinyue said.

“His wife is Wang Lijuan, the plump woman you saw yesterday,” Qian Sanni explained. “She’s from the same county as me, but a year younger. She joined the army just this past half-year. Before that, she was a worker at the match factory. She was transferred here, and they just put her in the cardboard factory. I used to work in the canteen at my dad’s unit, but I didn’t have any official position, so I couldn’t be transferred.”

Li Xinyue laughed softly. “My family farms, so I can’t be transferred either. But I’m sure they’ll arrange something for us later.”

“Right?” Qian Sanni agreed. “Family members who have been accompanying the army for more than three years usually get jobs arranged for them. I think we’ll get jobs too.”

Li Xinyue didn’t tell Qian Sanni that she didn’t want a job. Next December, the national college entrance exams would resume, and she wanted to study medicine. A degree was essential! In the future, she wanted to start a pharmaceutical factory. She needed a professional qualification for this kind of industry with hard technical skills.

Before she time-traveled, Li Xinyue was a professor at a top medical university, which had an affiliated hospital and a pharmaceutical factory. She had been in this field since university, for over ten years.

It was better to do something you were familiar with.

She couldn’t do it now, but she could in a few years.

As they were talking, a scream came from outside.

“That’s Auntie Sun’s voice. What’s she doing again?” Qian Sanni asked.

Li Xinyue’s heart skipped a beat. “This old lady has a loud voice. It seems like she has a bad temper.”

“Yes, she’s very domineering. No one likes her,” Qian Sanni confirmed.

“Should we go see?” Li Xinyue asked.

People always liked to join in on the fun. Li Xinyue nodded. “Let’s go take a look.”

The two women and the little boy went out and reached the backyard entrance. Auntie Sun spotted them.

“I say, Battalion Commander Chen’s wife, you’re really impressive, aren’t you? Just because you’re a Battalion Commander’s wife?” Auntie Sun sneered. “If you were a commander’s wife, wouldn’t you kick everyone else out? Fine, fine, you’re only brave enough to bully me, an old woman. Do you dare bully anyone else? I never thought you’d be a vixen with such a bad heart! Humph, you just arrived and started causing trouble. I think you’re just a…”

Li Xinyue: “…”

This woman thought she was new and easy to bully?
