Chapter 125: The Commander’s Generosity
“As soon as the words left her mouth, Qian Sanni stared wide-eyed at Li Xinyue, motionless.”
“What are you staring at me for?” Li Xinyue asked, her mouth twitching. “Think I’m trying to fool you?”
Qian Sanni shook her head, genuinely saying, “Xinyue, you’re so generous!”
What did she mean by generous?
The pears wouldn’t last long, and it would be a shame to make them into dried pears. Sharing them wasn’t a bad idea, was it?
“It’s just a few wild fruits, not golden apples. There’s no need to talk about generosity or lack thereof.”
“I’m going to rest. You should rest too.”
Wild fruits?
These days, wild fruits weren’t so easy to find!
Qian Sanni took a deep breath, “Okay, thanks.”
“You’re welcome.”
Li Xinyue had woken up early and used her mental energy, so she was truly tired. After her hair dried, she lay down on the bed and fell asleep.
Exhausted from the fright and shock, she woke up at 3:30 PM.
The firewood outside was gone, and the ground was swept clean.
She opened her mouth, then walked into the kitchen.
Only then did she discover that the firewood they had chopped today was neatly stacked in the corner of the kitchen.
My goodness, this was too artistic!
Looking at the wall-sized stack of firewood, all the same size, Li Xinyue felt incredibly touched.
These soldiers were truly worthy of respect!
At that moment, Li Xinyue even felt that she only deserved to eat the pig’s head from the three wild boars.
Leaving the kitchen, she went to the backyard.
She found several large sacks under the awning, filled with dry pine needles.
Did they bring back the wild boars?
Where was that man?
Meanwhile, Chen Mingchuan was slicing the meat with a swift motion.
“Give each of the commanders a piece, and send two pounds of ribs. Tell them it’s a token of appreciation from all the soldiers in our battalion.”
A group of people surrounded him, all giving their battalion commander a thumbs-up for his skills!
His craftsmanship was truly unmatched.
Each piece weighed about five pounds, probably with a difference of less than an ounce.
Wang Linjun immediately stepped forward: “Battalion Commander, we will send it to your family first.”
Yes, yes, the wild boars were hunted by the commander and his wife, so it was only right to send theirs first!
Chen Mingchuan glared, “What’s the rush? Send it to the chief’s family first. There’s still time to stew the ribs.”
Wang Linjun immediately shrank back, “Yes!”
Eight commanders, five pounds of meat and two pounds of ribs each, totaling 40 pounds of meat and 16 pounds of ribs.
After distributing those, Chen Mingchuan chopped out several more piles.
“The instructor’s family, the deputy commander’s family, the deputy instructor’s family, one share each.”
The deputy instructor was away for training, but his mother and child were at home, so they needed to send some.
However, the instructor refused, “This won’t do! Let’s have them all over for dinner tonight. We can’t take any.”
Chen Mingchuan glared, “This is mine, I’ll decide how to distribute it. What’s it to you?”
“Liu Qiang!”
“Yes!”
“Take this and send it to the commanders’ families!”
“Yes!”
Instructor Lin and Li Jianshan exchanged glances: This commander was truly generous!
This was meat! If they salted it and ate it at home, it would last them a whole year!
Wild boars were plentiful in the mountains, but using firearms to hunt them was forbidden. Who could get their hands on a few without weapons?
It wasn’t that they weren’t capable, but these creatures were difficult to deal with.
They lived in packs, and injured wild boars were ferocious as tigers.
Who among them hadn’t chopped firewood in the mountains?
But who had ever hunted a wild boar?
The army had strict control over firearms these days. There weren’t many people who could hunt wild boars with their bare hands.
Let’s not talk about the meat distribution in the battalion. Li Xinyue came out of the backyard and prepared to collect her clothes.
Before she could even step out the door, a pregnant woman appeared.
Seeing her, Li Xinyue gasped in surprise: “Goodness, she’s so thin!”
Though she herself was thin, the woman in front of her had a huge belly, making her look like a refugee.
However, she was quite pretty.
Li Xinyue opened her mouth and finally remembered: “Are you Zhao Lan?”
Zhao Lan held a basket in her hand.
The basket was filled with string beans, long beans, and red peppers. Her face was flushed as she stood at the doorway.
“Sister-in-law, hello! You’re home. I hope I’m not bothering you?”
Chen Mingchuan had mentioned Zhao Lan, saying she was a very diligent and honest woman with a gentle personality.
At first glance, Li Xinyue had a good impression of Zhao Lan.
She stepped forward, taking the basket: “Come in and sit down. Why are you bringing vegetables with such a big belly?”
Zhao Lan walked in and looked around the room: “Sister-in-law, you’ve already tidied up?”
Li Xinyue nodded: “Just a little bit. Sit down.”
“Don’t call me sister-in-law. We’re about the same age, and your husband is several years older than mine. Just call me Li Xinyue.”
“Your due date is coming soon, isn’t it?”
Zhao Lan sat down and gently nodded: “It wasn’t supposed to be yet. But because it’s twins, I’m expecting it to be earlier.”
“I heard from Weiguo that you’re a year older than me. Can I call you Sister Xinyue?”
“No problem.”
She wouldn’t allow people to call her by her name, so calling her sister was fine.
Twins are usually difficult to carry to full term.
Li Xinyue poured Zhao Lan a bowl of sweet soup. The woman was so thin it made her feel a little heartbroken.
“Can I touch your belly?”
Zhao Lan opened her mouth: “Sister Xinyue, you know about this?”
Li Xinyue smiled: “I know a little bit.”
“Then I’ll trouble you.”
Li Xinyue shook her head: “What trouble is there? Stand up, and I’ll touch your belly.”
“Okay.”
Zhao Lan immediately stood up, and Li Xinyue stood up as well, her hands moving from left to right, then to the edge of her pelvis…
“Zhao Lan, you’ll give birth within two days. The baby has already entered the pelvis.”
“Have you been feeling the need to pee frequently these past two days?”
Zhao Lan nodded repeatedly: “Yes, yes. I’ve been getting up to pee several times more at night since yesterday. But each time, I only pee a little.”
That’s it.
Fortunately, there was a hospital in the military headquarters. Otherwise, she would have to be admitted early.
Twins, and her first pregnancy, the birth would be a bit difficult.
Fortunately, her pelvis was not small.
Li Xinyue chatted with Zhao Lan for a while, talking about everything from how to help with a natural birth to Aunt Wu, Wu Xiaohe, and so on.
It wasn’t until around five o’clock that she saw her out.
“Remember, this milk powder is for you only. More nutrition will make your milk supply plentiful.”
Zhao Lan’s eyes were red.
Milk powder wasn’t cheap.
Even her own mother never bought her a bag.
But this sister she had only met today, not only peeled pears for her but also gave her a whole bag of milk powder…
“Sister Xinyue, thank you.”
They had chatted for over an hour in two days. Li Xinyue had a keen eye for people, and she liked the gentle Zhao Lan.
“Don’t say that. We’re sisters out here.”
“I’m better off than you. Chen Mingchuan’s salary is higher than Wu Weiguo’s, and I can also dig up herbs.”
“These things are nothing special to me.”
“Drink it well, so you have the strength to give birth.”
Money belonged to others, after all.
There were many wealthy people in the world, but she had only met one who was both wealthy and so generous!
