Chapter 10: The Paternity Test Results
When Shen Qingyan heard there was such a thing, he was stunned. His mind raced for a moment, and then he solemnly said, “I didn’t expect something like this to happen, but don’t worry, wife. I’ll help you!”
Seeing how serious he looked, Gu Siqing suddenly burst out laughing. “I remember when you just woke up from the hospital bed, you weren’t like this at all. You even suspected I was some kind of enemy agent, didn’t you?”
Shen Qingyan’s face twitched in embarrassment when he heard that. Especially when she smiled so brightly at him, he felt a strong wave of guilt.
His wife was such a good person. Despite being threatened and possibly even reported by him, she still treated his leg, told him about the secret space, and yet he had suspected her of being a spy. That was just wrong!
Gu Siqing laughed again at the sight of his awkward face. “I was just teasing. Most people wouldn’t be as calm as you. Waking up in a situation like that, they’d think they were possessed or something.”
In fact, if she hadn’t known who Shen Qingyan was in her past life, Gu Siqing wouldn’t have dared to reveal her secret or show him the space. It was only because she trusted his character and believed he would figure it out quickly that she knocked him out and performed the surgery directly in the space.
“Alright then,” Gu Siqing teased again, gave him a quick tour of the space, and pushed him back inside. “We’ll stay in the space for the next couple of days. You should drink more spiritual spring water.”
Shen Qingyan now had no doubts at all.
As she pushed him back to his room inside the space, they passed through the courtyard, and he noticed a pile of miscellaneous old furniture in a corner. They looked like they had been used for years. He assumed they were the old pieces from the house, probably replaced by Gu Siqing recently. He figured once he recovered, he’d help her move them out to sell.
After settling Shen Qingyan in his room, Gu Siqing hurried to the testing room. It had already been several hours since she sent off the samples earlier that morning, so the results should be ready.
As she arrived, a robot was just about to deliver the test results.
She took the document and skipped all the data, going straight to the bottom line: “Biological relationship: 99.9%.”
Seeing that, Gu Siqing couldn’t help but curse internally—“This is so damn melodramatic!”
It felt like something ripped straight out of a romance novel. She seriously began to wonder if she was the female lead in one of those overly dramatic stories.
But at the same time, she felt a huge weight lift off her shoulders. She didn’t have to keep running in circles trying to find the biological father of Dabo and Xiaobao anymore.
Now that she and Shen Qingyan were already married, everything made sense. He no longer needed to feel guilty or try to force himself to treat the kids like his own—because they were his own.
The story may be melodramatic, but at least the ending was a happy one.
Gu Siqing quickly brought the results to the room, eager to tell Shen Qingyan the news.
He was sitting inside, staring blankly out the window at the two kids playing outside. Looking at Dabo’s face, he felt a strange sense of familiarity wash over him.
Why did it feel so familiar?
He shook his head and tried to dismiss the thought. Just then, Gu Siqing walked in. He was surprised. “Didn’t you say you had something to do?”
Gu Siqing walked over quickly and handed him the paper. “This is the result of the test I did using your and Dabo’s hair. Take a look.”
Shen Qingyan took it, and his eyes immediately widened as he read the small print at the bottom. He reread it several times in disbelief, even pinched himself—yes, it hurt. This wasn’t a dream.
In this era, paternity testing technology existed only abroad; it hadn’t been widely introduced domestically. Shen Qingyan didn’t even know such a thing existed. But even a fool could understand the line: “Biological relationship: 99.9%.”
It meant he and Dabo were biologically related.
Suddenly, fragmented memories flashed in his mind.
Gu Siqing saw the disbelief on his face and patted her chest, relieved she already knew the full story. Having been through so many worlds and tasks, her acceptance level was higher than most. She could handle this kind of dramatic coincidence.
“Three years ago, one night, I went to a class reunion, drank a bit too much, and ended up having… relations with someone. The next morning, I left in a rush and later gave birth to these two kids,” Gu Siqing recounted calmly.
“Three years ago? Mid-July, right?” Shen Qingyan’s heart suddenly thumped.
“And there was a little rain that night too!” she added.
Staring at her face, his memory started to align with hers. Looking out at the kids again, especially Dabo, his heart skipped a beat. No wonder he felt that strange familiarity. It wasn’t for no reason.
A 99.9% match—they were father and son.
The innate blood connection between a father and his children was impossible to sever. That sense of familiarity upon meeting them was perfectly natural. He just hadn’t thought of it that way.
Gu Siqing tilted her head. “I think so. That night I was pretty out of it, must’ve drunk too much… The reason I even did the test was because Dabo looked so much like you.”
Everything lined up—the timing, the weather, and now the test result.
Shen Qingyan fully believed her now, but still gave his side of the story.
Three years ago, he had been on a covert mission that lasted nearly a year. He had to go undercover, which meant drinking heavily with suspects to avoid blowing his cover.
“Was it a restaurant in the north of the city?” Shen Qingyan asked, recalling more details.
Gu Siqing nodded. “Yes. At the time, my university admission letter had been stolen by Gu Wanrou. She forced me to attend the reunion.”
“So I went.”
Looking back now, she felt something was off…
Shen Qingyan nodded and continued, “I drank a lot that night. Felt really dizzy. On the first floor, I saw a woman wobbling around like she was drunk. I thought something was wrong and went over to ask.”
As he spoke, his tone got more awkward.
“When I approached her, she suddenly started undressing me. Maybe I was drunk too, and since I was undercover and the others were watching… They ended up sending us to a hotel.”
He couldn’t even finish the sentence.
Gu Siqing turned beet red. Even with her thick skin, she was utterly embarrassed.
“And then… things just spiraled out of control,” Shen Qingyan said, skipping the details. “The next morning, I woke up, and you were gone. I actually wanted to take responsibility, but I couldn’t find you. My mission was urgent, so I had to leave.”
“Later, I came back and searched for you. I even asked the people from that night, but got nothing.”
This memory had been buried in his heart for three years.
Now that it was all out, everything lined up perfectly with what Gu Siqing said. The two exchanged glances, embarrassed, and both turned away with a cough.
“You said I seemed ‘not quite right’ that night?” Gu Siqing suddenly recalled something he said earlier.
Shen Qingyan nodded. “Yeah, your face was red, and you were very eager… seemed a bit out of it. It didn’t feel like just being drunk. More like…”
“Drugged!” Gu Siqing finished the thought aloud, realization dawning on her face.
