“Military Marriage Threw Its Back Out: Commander, Your Wife Ran Away Again!” Chapter 14

Chapter 14: We Received a Report — Gu Wanrou Used a False Identity to Attend University

The two acted out their scene with great emotion, crying pitifully. Neighbors from both sides came out to watch the commotion. Some even mocked Gu Siqing in their hearts. After all, they were from the same courtyard and everyone knew Gu Siqing was soft-hearted. Hearing what the couple said, some speculated she might go to her husband’s family and ask for money to support her maternal side.

Tsk tsk! What bad luck for the man who married such a woman.

As the two continued their dramatic performance, Gu Siqing remained unmoved, while Shen Qingyan suddenly recalled seeing a pile of second-hand furniture in a corner of the space. At the time, he had been puzzled—why would such a futuristic space have a bunch of old furniture? He had thought maybe it came from the house his wife previously lived in and hadn’t yet been thrown away. But thinking about it now, it must have come from this house when it was emptied out.

From what they just said, it likely happened on their wedding day. That day, the moment he entered the bridal chamber, he was knocked out by Gu Siqing, underwent surgery without knowing, and when he woke up, he had no idea what time it was. Most likely, Gu Siqing moved everything out of the house after performing surgery on him.

Hmm… His wife might be a time management master!

Shen Qingyan suddenly felt like he had figured it all out. But even though he had come to this realization, he still kept a straight face, watching the two act their play. After all, his wife was a good person—she even treated his illness. If she emptied the house, it was surely because she had suffered too many grievances before. She wouldn’t have done that otherwise.

They even stole her university admission spot—what else would they not do?

Poor woman! His wife was truly pitiful!

So, Shen Qingyan simply ignored them.

Gu Dakai and Bai Cuiyan cried and wailed for quite a while. Seeing that Gu Siqing hadn’t reacted at all, the two began to feel doubtful. Had they not performed well enough? They had mixed in genuine emotion! Because of the act, the old man and old lady stayed upstairs, and Gu Wanrou and Gu Ruizhuo also refused to come out, afraid the neighbors would see and feel ashamed.

Yet after all their effort, this wretched girl Gu Siqing still didn’t budge?

In the past, when they said things like this, Gu Siqing would already be helping them figure something out.

Bai Cuiyan, dissatisfied, lunged forward and grabbed her sleeve. “You heartless girl! How can you be so indifferent? Just because you married out, doesn’t mean you should turn your back on us!”

Heartless? Gu Siqing found it laughable. Without changing expression, she shook off Bai Cuiyan’s hand and replied calmly:

“Aunt, what you said isn’t right. Didn’t I become someone else’s family the moment I married out? Didn’t you already accept the 1,888 yuan betrothal gift from my husband’s family?”

“You didn’t give me any of it. You didn’t prepare a dowry either. I don’t have money on me. Why should my husband, who paid 1,888 to marry me, have to give more money to support you all?”

“If I keep moving things from my in-laws back to my maternal home, how am I supposed to hold my head up there?”

Did Bai Cuiyan really think a few words would manipulate her?

Bai Cuiyan’s face froze in embarrassment. When had this wretched girl learned to talk back so cleverly? She just volleyed the argument right back, dissolving all of Bai Cuiyan’s previous complaints.

Had she acted all that for nothing?

Gu Dakai’s face also darkened. So Gu Siqing married out and now wanted to cut ties with them? Dream on!

Just as he was about to speak, Gu Siqing coughed and changed the subject. “Tomorrow, I’m leaving with my husband. You all know his legs aren’t good—we need to find a doctor to treat him.”

Leaving? Gu Dakai and Bai Cuiyan were immediately alarmed. Absolutely not! If Gu Siqing left, how would they use her as an excuse to visit the Shen family and ask for favors in the future? They wouldn’t be able to ask her for money anymore either. If she ran off far away, she’d be out of their control.

Their minds raced for a counterplan.

After a few seconds, Gu Dakai’s eyes shifted, and he quickly stepped forward. “Isn’t there another way? Aren’t the doctors around here pretty good too?”

“If you leave, the whole family will miss you. Especially your grandparents—they’re getting old.” He tried his usual emotional appeal. “You wouldn’t want the old couple to fall ill from longing, would you?”

Tsk! If the occasion weren’t so tense, Gu Siqing might’ve applauded. This man was a master manipulator. Did they want her to stay just so they could use her as a money tree?

Grandparents? Those two old fools were so biased they treated even Gu Wanrou and Gu Ruizhuo with coldness—let alone her, a granddaughter whose parents were both dead.

To them, daughters were a burden, a money sink. Without parents to provide value, Gu Siqing was just a worthless girl in their eyes.

If Gu Ruizhuo weren’t male, he’d have never taken her place at university—only because they wouldn’t let a girl take such a precious spot.

“No way,” Gu Siqing said, feigning sorrow and mimicking their dramatic tone. “My husband’s legs need to be treated. We have to try different places—if there’s hope, isn’t that a good thing?”

Shen Qingyan stood silently beside her, supporting his wife without question. Even when the two elders glanced at him repeatedly, he pretended not to see, looking up at the room instead.

Bai Cuiyan and Gu Dakai were fuming.

“What, do Uncle and Aunt not want my husband to get better?” Gu Siqing threw another pointed question at them.

The couple froze on the spot.

Of course, they didn’t want that. If Shen Qingyan stayed disabled, he’d keep receiving subsidies, and that would be their endless source of money. But they couldn’t say that in front of him—they didn’t dare offend the Shen family.

“No matter what, I have to go,” Gu Siqing made her stance clear.

Bai Cuiyan clenched her fists. She wanted to curse someone. Gu Dakai pulled her back and shot her a warning look—don’t ruin this in front of Shen Qingyan. Otherwise, if they ever needed to go to the Shen family and play the victim again, Shen Qingyan wouldn’t be as easy to manipulate.

“In that case, since it’s about Xiao Shen’s leg, of course you should go. Just make sure to come back soon,” Gu Dakai finally forced out.

Seeing her goal accomplished, Gu Siqing felt like setting off firecrackers.

Even if Bai Cuiyan was still angry, she had to swallow it all. She couldn’t utter a single word of well-wishing—wishing this wretched girl well felt like stabbing herself in the heart.

Just as Bai Cuiyan was biting her lip, eyes red with rage, a few police officers walked up and stopped in front of their door.

When she saw their uniforms, Bai Cuiyan’s eyes lit up. She rushed forward excitedly.

“Officers! Do you have news about the investigation from last night? Did you catch the thief who stole from our home?”

She grabbed one officer’s sleeve, launching into questions with righteous fury. “We want that thief to pay us double or sit in prison for life! Let him eat bullets!”

Inside the house, the rest of the family heard her and their eyes lit up.

The police came! They must’ve caught the thief!

They were secretly resentful of Gu Siqing’s earlier words. But if the thief was caught, they wouldn’t have to rely on that ungrateful girl anymore!

They could finally stop kissing up to her.

But the police officer took a step back and frowned slightly. “Is this Gu Wanrou’s residence?”

Gu Dakai, who had assumed this was good news, paused. He walked forward, confused. “Yes, this is Gu Wanrou’s home.”

Bai Cuiyan looked at her now-empty hand, unsure what was happening.

What did they mean? Why were they asking for Wanrou?

Just as Gu Wanrou was about to come out, she heard her name and immediately panicked. She hesitated for two seconds, then quietly backed into the room to listen in before deciding what to do.

The police ignored her retreat. Looking directly at Gu Dakai, one asked, “So who is Gu Wanrou?”

“Her!” Gu Dakai and Bai Cuiyan simultaneously turned their eyes toward Gu Siqing, both pointing at her.

Even though they didn’t know whether this was good or bad news, they remembered clearly—their daughter had been using Gu Siqing’s name to attend university. Shen Qingyan’s mother, a university professor, also thought Gu Wanrou was named Gu Siqing. So they had lied to the Shen family, claiming they would marry Gu Wanrou into their family.

“Officer, why are you looking for our Wanrou? We reported the theft last night…” Gu Dakai tried to fish for clues.

The police glanced at him coldly. “That case isn’t under our jurisdiction. We’re here today because we received a report that Gu Wanrou used someone else’s identity to attend university. We’re investigating that matter.”
