Chapter 36: Hypnosis, Memory Deletion
Although impotence was indeed an embarrassing issue for a man, his own wife was a doctor, so asking her about it shouldn’t be a big deal. If there was truly a problem, it could be treated. After struggling with it all night, Shen Qingyan didn’t fall asleep until dawn, deciding to come clean to his wife on Saturday.
Gu Siqing had a good night’s sleep. The next morning, she even glanced at the still-sleeping Shen Qingyan. Truly a gentleman — he believed in building emotional intimacy step by step. Shen Qingyan had no idea what she was thinking. By the time he woke up, Gu Siqing had already gone to class.
Since he had already decided to talk to her on Saturday, he wasn’t feeling too anxious.
Gu Siqing happily headed to school and directly entered the senior-year classroom with her books. There, she saw the same proctor teacher again.
“Good morning, teacher,” she greeted politely.
The teacher smiled at her. “I saw the application form and was a little surprised. That morning during the exam, I specifically watched how fast you worked. You were incredibly quick — had you already mastered all that knowledge?”
“I started reading as soon as the semester began, and I had already studied a portion of the material systematically before. I have a decent understanding, but I still need to keep learning. Ideally, I’d like to join a hospital after graduation to gain practical experience.”
“After all, practice makes progress,” Gu Siqing said with a smile.
The teacher gave her a thumbs up. “You’re truly impressive. Study hard.” With that, the teacher left.
Gu Siqing didn’t dwell on it much. She entered the classroom, where several students came over to chat with her. This time, two or three other sophomores had also successfully skipped grades. They had all heard about Gu Siqing before — the whole incident had been spread far and wide by Zhang Yanran.
With Zhang Yanran’s embellishments, everyone had thought Gu Siqing was just attention-seeking. But now that she had really skipped grades and was now their classmate, they were starting to feel ashamed of their previous comments about her.
After some small talk, they naturally shifted to discussing class content.
“This new classmate knows way too much!”
“I’ve been going year by year to reach senior year and never skipped a grade — how come she knows more than I do?”
“How many books must she have read? How deep must she have studied to skip three grades straight?”
Because of the chatting, the senior students developed a better impression of Gu Siqing. They appreciated people with true abilities.
Gu Siqing not only had skills but was also beautiful, naturally earning everyone’s favor. The teachers had already heard about her, so during the first class, they called on her multiple times. She answered fluently each time, even giving examples to support her points.
By the end of the class, her name had become well known across the entire medical department.
In the blink of an eye, Saturday arrived. Gu Siqing enjoyed a rare sleep-in. When she got up, she could already smell the aroma coming from the kitchen. Eagerly, she put on her shoes and went to the kitchen.
Shen Qingyan was there making porridge. He was tall and wearing a pink apron — looking a bit comical, but Gu Siqing felt a warmth in her heart. These past few days, they had been sharing the same bed, but Shen Qingyan hadn’t done anything — just held her as they slept.
Just as she walked in, Dabao and Erbao came running in from their room and rushed over to hug Shen Qingyan’s legs.
“Daddy.”
Shen Qingyan looked at the two children, then at the sleepy Gu Siqing standing in the doorway. “Go wash up, time for breakfast.”
The children and Gu Siqing went to freshen up. After breakfast, the kids went downstairs to play, while Gu Siqing continued assisting Shen Qingyan with physical therapy. His recovery was nearly complete, but rehabilitation was still needed to ensure long-term stability, and she remained diligent about it.
“Wife.”
Shen Qingyan stood in front of Gu Siqing right after finishing rehab.
“Hm?” Gu Siqing was reading a senior-level medical textbook.
“I need to talk to you about something.”
Although he had prepared for days, Shen Qingyan still felt embarrassed when it came time to say it. His face turned red, though his tan skin made it less obvious.
“Go ahead.” Gu Siqing looked up at him sincerely.
Meeting her gaze, Shen Qingyan hesitated but finally sat down next to her so they were eye-level. He lowered his head and explained, “Wife, I wanted to discuss something. After I got injured, I seem to have… not been functioning properly in that area.”
“I used to think I’d never recover, but when I held you the other night, I felt something strange. I want to try being intimate, but it still doesn’t feel right.”
“So the reason you said you wanted to sleep together but only hugged me each night was because of this?” Gu Siqing finally understood. She had thought he was just trying to build emotional intimacy step by step, and even if they shared a bed, he wouldn’t make a move.
Turns out, there was something else going on.
Shen Qingyan’s face turned redder at her conclusion but nodded anyway. “There’s some reaction, but… it’s not strong.”
Gu Siqing stroked her chin. “You should’ve told me sooner. When I examined you last time, I didn’t find anything wrong — probably because I was focused on your legs, so the scanner didn’t pick up anything else. Let’s do a full checkup now?”
Shen Qingyan immediately agreed.
They went for an examination, and the results came back quickly — everything was physically normal.
Looking at the data, Gu Siqing grew puzzled. “If it’s not a physical issue, could it be psychological?”
Shen Qingyan didn’t understand. “What do you mean?”
“How did you get injured back then?” she asked.
Shen Qingyan thought for a moment and said, “A building collapsed, and I rushed in to save a child. I managed to get the child out, but a beam hit me and trapped me inside. Stones fell and crushed my leg — and hit that area too. It went numb, and the pain made me pass out. When I woke up…”
He didn’t finish, but Gu Siqing understood — he had passed out from fear and pain when he was hit there, which left a psychological trauma. He came to believe he was no longer functional.
“This actually isn’t too difficult to treat. I’ll hypnotize you and delete the memory of being hit. Slowly, you should improve.”
Once she identified it as a psychological issue, Gu Siqing knew exactly how to treat it.
Hearing that he could be cured, Shen Qingyan finally let out a sigh of relief.
“I thought I’d never be able to again, I…”
Gu Siqing blushed. “I get it. It’s not a big deal.”
If they kept talking about this, she’d die of embarrassment — even though she was a doctor, the patient was her husband, after all.
But it was for their happy married life, after all.
“So… when do we start the hypnosis?”
Now that he knew what the problem was, Shen Qingyan couldn’t wait for her treatment. Holding his soft little wife every night without being able to take the next step was torment. He didn’t want to perform poorly, but what if he failed halfway? That’d be humiliating!
Gu Siqing replied, “After lunch, I’ll take the kids to my parents’ place. Then I’ll hypnotize you. We can’t be interrupted during the session.”
Without waiting for his reply, she left the room — needing a moment to calm herself.
At noon, after lunch, Gu Siqing took Dabao and Erbao to Qi Yuan’s place, saying Shen Qingyan needed another long acupuncture session and the kids might be a distraction.
Qi Yuan immediately agreed, “I’ll take good care of them. Qingyan’s in your hands!”
Once she returned, Gu Siqing entered her private space. Shen Qingyan was already waiting on the bed.
She took out the hypnosis pocket watch and began swinging it in front of him. Soon, he was fully under.
She guided him to recall the incident — rescuing the child and getting injured. His forehead dripped with sweat, and his hands twitched uncontrollably.
He saw the heavy stone falling, smashing down on his leg.
“My leg!”
Seeing his agony even in the memory, Gu Siqing felt her heart ache. She gently wiped the sweat from his forehead and slowly guided him to forget the part where he got hit there.
Under her hypnosis, that segment of memory faded. Shen Qingyan only remembered his leg being crushed, then blacking out.
After confirming multiple times that the key traumatic memory was erased, Gu Siqing also implanted the belief that they hadn’t been intimate yet because they were waiting for his leg to fully heal.
All memories that caused psychological blocks were erased.
Hypnosis was mentally exhausting. After it ended, Shen Qingyan fell into a deep sleep, and Gu Siqing, drained as well, fell asleep leaning against the foot of the bed.
Shen Qingyan woke first. Seeing Gu Siqing asleep and slumped against the bed, he felt a pang of love and lifted her up gently to move her to the bed.
Just as he did, Gu Siqing woke up.
