——The wilderness was covered in thick snow, snowflakes falling silently to the ground. A pure white skylark flew desperately across the sky, trying to find a place to land.
Luo Yihui’s voice was full of hypnotic persuasion: “Very good, don’t look down, move slowly, stand up first with the help of the pole next to you, and then walk towards me on the iron frame. It’s okay, I’ll extend my hand, you walk this way.”
Ji Jinmao watched Ji Zhao’s every move with anxiety. He hoped Ji Zhao would obey and come by himself but feared he might fall.
As Luo Yihui’s voice echoed, the once peaceful scene in Ji Zhao’s mind turned chaotic. The strong wind picked up the thick snow, howling and roaring. The skylark’s wings were buffeted by the wind and it began to fly in circles at a low altitude.
In Ji Zhao’s world, he had become the skylark. No wonder he sat on the iron frame, as it was the only place he could flap his “wings” and try to break free from the desolate wilderness.
Luo Yihui’s words didn’t reassure Ji Zhao but instead disrupted his calm state.
“Ji Zhao, I’m waiting for you here, come quickly. Your father, your mother, Feng Ma, Duan Yong… they are all waiting for you.”
The neon lights flickered, and Ji Zhao suddenly opened his eyes, looking directly at Luo Yihui.
【finally!】
Luo Yihui’s emotions shifted, the thick barrier cracking, and Zhao Xiangwan caught a glimpse of his inner thoughts. Just one word, but it made her adrenaline spike.
Luo Yihui was a psychological expert. He had been searching for Ji Zhao’s weakness, and now, he had found it!
[Feng Ma’s words truly triggered Ji Zhao. It’s surprising that Ji Zhao, usually indifferent to everything, could be affected by the story of the foolish son of a landlord. His eyes finally focused, and he began to accept external information more actively.]
“Auntie Feng…” Luo Yihui was about to continue, but Ji Jinmao quickly covered his mouth.
Although Ji Jinmao was heavy, he was quite agile. He had noticed something was wrong with Ji Zhao and quickly covered Luo Yihui’s mouth. He hissed: “Mother Feng has been fired. Don’t mention her again!”
Ji Jinmao understood that Feng Ma’s words had upset Ji Zhao, so he acted to remove Luo Yihui from the scene. He couldn’t let Luo Yihui mention her again. Ji Zhao was in danger, and they couldn’t afford another mistake. He absolutely couldn’t allow any further words from Luo Yihui.
Luo Yihui blinked, made a “hmm” sound, and nodded.
Ji Jinmao then released his hand and cautioned: “Be careful with your words.”
Luo Yihui quickly formed a psychological barrier, ensuring no more of his inner thoughts slipped out. But Zhao Xiangwan knew he wasn’t trustworthy, so she made sure to stop him.
Zhao Xiangwan stepped back and whispered into Zhu Feipeng’s ear: “Detain him!”
“What?” Zhu Feipeng didn’t react at first. He had assumed that Luo Yihui was helping Ji Zhao, so why detain him?
“He’s dangerous.”
Zhao Xiangwan’s voice was calm but firm, compelling Zhu Feipeng to act quickly.
Like a predator pouncing, Zhu Feipeng, with his superior strength, swiftly grabbed Luo Yihui’s arm, twisted it, and bound his hands behind his back.
With one firm push of his elbow, Luo Yihui’s face slammed into the corridor wall.
Luo Yihui had just been silenced by Ji Jinmao, and before he could regain his breath, he was pinned by Zhu Feipeng. Ignoring the pain in his face and arms, he shouted: “What are you doing?!”
Lu Manning, confused by the situation, urgently pulled her son: “Xiaopeng, what’s going on? He’s the nephew of the president’s wife, and he’s trying to help!”
Zhao Xiangwan looked around, seeing a crowd filling the corridor. The special police and firefighters hadn’t arrived yet. Xu Songling, concerned that Ji Zhao wouldn’t hold on much longer, prepared a safety rope and readied himself to climb out and forcibly bring Ji Zhao back.
If Ji Zhao was emotionally unstable, Xu Songling’s plan could fail.
Zhao Xiangwan took a deep breath and explained to Ji Jinmao: “Luo Yihui’s words have already disturbed Ji Zhao. He cannot be allowed to speak again.”
“Okay.” Ji Jinmao hesitated but chose to trust the police, as it concerned his son’s life. He waved for the bodyguards to pull Luo Yihui away from the scene.
Luo Yihui struggled and shouted: “Uncle, Ji Zhao needs me! Let me help him!”
Zhao Xiangwan gave him a cold look and said, “Be quiet!”
Luo Yihui immediately stopped, silenced by her sharp gaze.
With Luo Yihui silenced, the crowd in the corridor fell quiet. Xu Songling, with the safety rope around his neck, slowly approached the window.
Ji Zhao’s body moved half an inch outward.
“Creaky—” The steel frame finally gave in, shaking under the strain.
A wire snapped, and the “Four Seasons Hotel” sign flickered off, making a sharp crackling noise.
Ji Jinmao’s face turned pale. He reached out, trying to stop Xu Songling from jumping, and pleaded, “No, Ji Zhao doesn’t like strangers getting too close.”
[I can’t let him be in danger, I can’t provoke him any further. Ji Zhao is different from ordinary people; he lives in his own world. I’m useless, I can’t protect him. I deserve to die! I don’t even understand why Ji Zhao left the studio and climbed up the billboard alone! I don’t deserve to be his father.]
Ji Jinmao’s love for his son is intense and selfless.
Even though his son isn’t typical and doesn’t respond to his love, Ji Jinmao remains devoted, treating his son as his entire life.
“Let me try.”
The night wind blew strands of hair onto Zhao Xiangwan’s forehead, and the flashing neon lights made her face appear a bit mysterious.
Ji Jinmao observed the girl in front of him.
He didn’t know Zhao Xiangwan and had always assumed she was Xu Songling’s subordinate. However, based on how she questioned Feng Hongying earlier, her methods, though young, were highly skilled.
Let her try? What is she going to do?
Zhao Xiangwan understood his thoughts and said softly, “I’ll communicate with Ji Zhao.”
Xu Songling pulled her back, not letting Zhao Xiangwan step in. “Why get involved? This isn’t an interrogation. Your methods won’t work.”
Zhu Feipeng also advised, “Don’t be stubborn, junior sister. There’s a life at stake, and you’re still a student.”
The autumn wind blew, and Ji Zhao felt cold and tired. However, the figure swaying at the window made him even more uneasy, causing him to try to move outwards.
“Ka–” the steel frame creaked again.
Ji Jinmao shouted at him, “Ji Zhao, don’t move!”
The situation was urgent, and there was no time to hesitate.
Zhao Xiangwan rushed to the window and shouted, “Ji Zhao, stop the wind. It’s too windy; we can’t fly.”
Ji Zhao’s back stiffened, and he stopped moving.
The steel frame shook, then stabilized.
Even though no one understood Zhao Xiangwan’s words, they all breathed a sigh of relief when the figure outside the window stopped moving.
Ji Jinmao bit his lips, trying to hold back his nervousness and excitement.
For 21 years, Ji Jinmao had given all his love to his son. He had tried countless times and faced many failures. He knew Ji Zhao well.
Even though Ji Zhao simply stopped moving, Ji Jinmao could tell his son had responded positively to Zhao Xiangwan’s words!
He cried and shouted, but Ji Zhao ignored him.
Luo Yihui tried to comfort him, but Ji Zhao’s hands, feet, head, and neck shook uncontrollably.
But when Zhao Xiangwan told him to stop, he stopped!
Ji Jinmao no longer doubted it. Tears welled up in his eyes, and he choked, pleading with Zhao Xiangwan, “Please, continue, talk to him again.”
Xu Songling frowned, gritting his teeth.
This girl is so daring! Ji Zhao is the only son of the richest man in Xing City. If anything happens to him, who will take responsibility? Xu Songling had the support of the Criminal Investigation Detachment, and his actions were part of his duty.
But what about Zhao Xiangwan? She’s just a freshman. How can she dare approach a suicidal person alone?
In a police station, such situations are usually handled by negotiation experts. Even experts with rich experience in psychology cannot guarantee that they can communicate effectively with autistic patients!
Xu Songling worried about how to protect her if something went wrong.
Zhu Feipeng looked at Zhao Xiangwan with admiration. He found the girl before him as beautiful as a painting, even more beautiful than the bright neon lights.
Zhao Xiangwan was fully focused on Ji Zhao, who was three meters away.
“If you’re tired of flying, just stop for a while.” Her voice had a calming effect, successfully easing Ji Zhao’s anxiety.
The wind stopped, the snow ceased, and the skylarks stopped circling, flapping their wings happily.
[Without branches, there is no stopping.]
A soft, clear voice suddenly appeared in Zhao Xiangwan’s mind.
Is this Ji Zhao’s voice? Can he speak? Is he willing to communicate with me?
Zhao Xiangwan controlled her excitement and gently guided him: “How difficult is it to draw a tree? Just draw one.”
For the first time, someone understood his heart. They knew he was exhausted from flying and wanted a place to rest. Ji Zhao decided to trust Zhao Xiangwan’s words completely.
Draw a tree? An invisible brush appeared in Ji Zhao’s world. He lightly stroked, and a tree appeared. The skylark, tired from flying, cried out in joy, flapping its wings and flying toward the tree, landing on a branch to rest.
A faint, pure smile appeared on Ji Zhao’s lips.
Ji Jinmao saw it clearly, and tears fell. His son smiled! It had been so long since he smiled like that.
He gazed at Zhao Xiangwan with admiration, seeing her as Ji Zhao’s savior.
Xu Songling was also somewhat moved.
Autism, also known as autism spectrum disorder, is a developmental condition marked by challenges in social interaction, communication, and repetitive behaviors.
Even the best foreign psychologists were unsure how to help autistic patients, but Zhao Xiangwan managed to get Ji Zhao to respond positively with just a few words. How rare!
Admiration flooded Zhao Xiangwan’s mind, but she remained calm. It was the first time she discovered that mind-reading allowed her to peek into someone else’s spiritual world, and she was exploring it carefully.
