Chapter 11: Simple-Minded

Ji Xueli followed Ji Yanzhou to the hospital in a daze. She looked up at the hospital building, still processing what was going on. “Who’s in the hospital?”

“An assistant.” Ji Yanzhou replied casually, then rushed to the nurse’s station to ask which room Xie Yujun was in.

Seeing how anxious he was, Ji Xueli thought this assistant couldn’t be just any assistant—maybe someone special?

She immediately understood and hurried to follow him. It was no wonder he was so worried.

Following Ji Yanzhou into the hospital room, Ji Xueli saw the person lying on the bed. The woman was beautiful, with delicate features.

“Mr. Ji? What are you doing here…” Xie Yujun looked slightly pale. Seeing Ji Yanzhou standing in front of her, she was both surprised and touched.

“And who is this?” She looked at the woman who had followed Ji Yanzhou into the room. The woman’s features were exquisite—more stunning than the movie stars she had seen on TV—and her demeanor was graceful and elegant.

“Hello, I’m Ji Xueli, a friend of Ji Yanzhou,” Ji Xueli introduced herself.

“Hello.” Xie Yujun’s gaze shifted quickly. Ji Xueli’s face looked extremely familiar, which made her heart race. She quickly turned to look at Ji Yanzhou.

“How did you suddenly get attacked?” Ji Yanzhou frowned, seeing the bandaged wounds on her arm and leg.

Xie Yujun had just woken up, her mind still foggy. “My father came back.”

Ji Xueli realized she shouldn’t be eavesdropping on personal matters, so she stepped out of the room. “I’ll wait outside for you.”

“Sorry for disturbing your family gathering today.” Xie Yujun knew about Ji Yanzhou’s first love, and now, seeing her, she understood. She apologized sincerely.

“It’s fine. Just focus on recovering, and leave this matter to me.” Ji Yanzhou’s voice turned cold.

“I’ll get you a nurse. Once your injuries are healed, you can go home.”

“No need, I’ll just go home. I can manage on my own.” Xie Yujun immediately shook her head in refusal.

“I’m not asking you,” Ji Yanzhou responded firmly.

Oh, a domineering CEO. Ji Xueli couldn’t help but mutter to herself.

“Then thank you.” Xie Yujun reluctantly agreed. Her mind was even more confused now, especially after Ji Xueli’s arrival.

Ji Xueli wondered if she should play matchmaker. She stuck her head out from the door. “How about this: you stay with her, and I’ll go back and explain things to Auntie?”

Ji Yanzhou glanced at her. He wasn’t sure if she was being genuine or sarcastic, but hearing her words stirred something inside him. After a long pause, he simply said, “Okay.”

Xie Yujun looked up in surprise.

“Don’t worry, I’ll take care of Auntie. You just focus on staying with her,” Ji Xueli made a hand gesture as if assuring him to relax.

She smiled, thinking she had helped bring them closer.

As she turned and left without hesitation, showing no signs of attachment, Ji Yanzhou’s mood darkened a little.

Xie Yujun looked at him, suddenly unsure. The kindness Ji Yanzhou had shown her in the past flashed in her mind…

She hesitated, about to speak, but the next moment, Ji Yanzhou stood up.

“Sorry, the nurse will be here soon. I have to go now.”

Xie Yujun froze for a moment, clutching the blanket tightly in her hand.

Since she had come in Ji Yanzhou’s car, Ji Xueli would take a separate car home. Before she could wave, a navy blue sports car stopped in front of her. Ji Xueli took a step back, confused.

The window rolled down, and it was Cheng Du. He smiled at Ji Xueli. “Li Li, what are you doing at the hospital?”

“Why are you here? Just drop me off,” Ji Xueli responded.

“Sure, I just had lunch with the Young Master.” Cheng Du unlocked the car doors for her.

Young Master? Oh, he meant Duan Qingyu.

Ji Xueli was about to open the door and sit inside to have a proper conversation when someone suddenly grabbed her wrist. Forced by the strength, she turned around.

“Ji Yanzhou?” She was surprised to see him.

His gaze was forceful and direct. “Get in my car.”

Wasn’t he supposed to stay with that other woman? Why was he here now? Ji Xueli was puzzled.

“Hey, Ji Yanzhou, long time no see.” Cheng Du saw Ji Yanzhou and, especially when he noticed him holding Ji Xueli’s wrist, his smile faded somewhat.

“Mm.” Ji Yanzhou nodded, acknowledging him briefly before attempting to pull Ji Xueli away.

Cheng Du called out, “Hey, aren’t you taking my car, Li Li?”

“Let’s have a meal together next time. I have things to do today.” Ji Xueli couldn’t break free from Ji Yanzhou and could only reply.

Cheng Du watched Ji Xueli being taken away and shook his head in displeasure. He then took out his phone and dialed a number. “Do you know who I just saw?”

The voice on the other end sounded casual. “Who?”

“Ji Xueli and Ji Yanzhou. I knew this guy couldn’t forget her. But it looks like Ji Xueli doesn’t feel anything for him. This is perfect. I feel like our friendship is going to get back on track. But do you think she would really fall for him?” Cheng Du rambled on.

Duan Qingyu was still looking at a contract and didn’t react to Cheng Du’s words. “What, would it be unfair to her if she liked me?”

“Well, a bit… after all, Ji Xueli just came back from abroad. She doesn’t know how much the Shangjing district has changed… She’s simple-minded.” Cheng Du unknowingly blurted out his honest thoughts.

Before he could finish, the call was abruptly ended. Cheng Du looked at his phone, sighed, and thought, I’m dealing with a cunning fox. She’s going to crash into a wall soon.

Simple-minded… Duan Qingyu thought about the conversation they had that night in the car and smiled faintly.

The real danger lies in the wolf hidden among the sheep.
