Chapter 12: Be Cautious
“What about that young lady?” Ji Xueli glanced at Ji Yanzhou, who was driving, and asked.
Ji Yanzhou replied indifferently, “I hired a nurse.”
Ji Xueli wanted to suggest that he shouldn’t leave a woman alone in that condition, but then she thought better of it. After all, she wasn’t fully aware of the situation.
“I remember that you and Cheng Du weren’t particularly close before,” Ji Yanzhou spoke again.
In fact, it had been Cheng Du who had been pursuing her; at the time, she had been focused on her career and wasn’t very concerned about her relationships with others.
“Is that so? There’s nothing wrong with getting along now,” Ji Xueli responded casually.
But inside, she thought to herself: When Cheng Du first saw her and was so enthusiastic, and considering that he was also from one of the four big families, she thought they must have a close relationship. It was a surprise to find out their friendship wasn’t deep.
Indeed, when someone experiences a completely different system, things are never the same. Everyone else has various advantages, while she keeps stumbling into one pitfall after another…
In the end, if the male lead even mistakes things, she might actually go crazy.
She had changed a lot… Ji Yanzhou silently observed her. Not everyone stayed in the same place, and he was no exception.
In their three years together, she never mentioned it. Perhaps, she really didn’t care anymore.
He gripped the steering wheel tightly.
“Hey, hey!” Suddenly, the car accelerated. Ji Xueli was caught off guard and lurched forward. She quickly pulled on her seatbelt.
This person’s emotions are way too unstable, she thought, as she shrank back in her seat.
After the dinner, Ji Xueli watched her mother continue to chat with Ji Yanzhou’s mother. Feeling a bit bored, she looked around.
It was almost eight, so she figured it might be a good time to meet Duan Qingyu for a drink.
Just as she was about to take out her phone to text him, she was interrupted.
“Li Li, do you want to stay here tonight? You used to love staying here when you were little,” Ji Yanzhou’s mother suddenly said.
This caught Ji Xueli by surprise. She quickly waved her hand. “No, Auntie, I have things to do tonight. I won’t disturb you.”
“What things? Another acting gig?” Ji Yanzhou’s mother looked at her with a somewhat exasperated expression.
“Yeah, it’s for work,” Ji Xueli replied, deciding to just admit it.
“Well, then you should get to work. Do you want me to have Yanzhou drive you?” Ji Yanzhou’s mother said, about to call Ji Yanzhou.
Ji Xueli hurriedly declined, “No, it’s fine. I can drive myself.”
Ji Yanzhou looked at her.
“Then we’ll leave first. Let’s get together next time,” Ji Yanzhou’s mother waved at them.
“Mm, take care on the road.”
Finally, it was over. Ji Xueli stretched in the car, her face nearly frozen in a smile.
“Li Li, did you meet Yanzhou’s assistant?” Ji Yanzhou’s mother suddenly spoke up.
“Yeah, she’s pretty, I think her name is… Jun?” Ji Xueli replied, having forgotten the name, but it didn’t matter—it was an unimportant person.
Ji Yanzhou’s mother reminded her, “You should be cautious. She’s probably not simple.”
Ji Xueli blinked. “Why should I be cautious of her?”
She barely even knew the woman. Why should she be wary? If she had time to be worried about her, it would be better to focus on building rapport with Duan Qingyu.
“You should listen to your mom. Go visit Yanzhou’s company more often. And, definitely be careful around that assistant,” Ji Yanzhou’s mother said earnestly.
“…Okay.” Ji Xueli nodded, but in her heart, she hadn’t taken a word of it seriously. She couldn’t even remember the assistant’s name, and now she was supposed to be cautious of her?
She promised to agree for now, but if anything really came up, it wouldn’t be too late to be more vigilant.
Her immediate priority was to meet Duan Qingyu.
