Chapter 21: He’s Taken Explosives

“You and Ji Yanzhou are collaborating on something? Investing in a film?” Ji Xueli asked while sitting in his car, applying makeup.

She had at least gone out. As a public figure, she had to be mindful of her image, so she applied a fake no-makeup look, which appeared natural but was fully made up.

Duan Qingyu glanced at her, his mouth slightly open, watching her struggling to curl her eyelashes. “Is this the only industry I have?”

“Ah, true…” Ji Xue Li nodded.

“It’s the Ji family and the Duan family working together, not us,” Duan Qingyu replied indifferently.

Ji Xue Li’s hand paused in its movement, and for some reason, she sensed a hint of hostility in his tone.

The relationship between Ji Yan Zhou and Duan Qingyu wasn’t as simple as it appeared, but it didn’t seem as bad as people might think either.

She took out her lipstick and was about to apply it when suddenly the car braked hard. Her body was jerked forward, only to be pulled back by the seatbelt. The lipstick left a mark at the corner of her mouth.

“…”

“Sorry, I almost missed the turn,” Duan Qingyu said, noticing the red mark at the corner of her lips. His eyes narrowed, and there was a sharp gleam in them.

Ji Xue Li took a deep breath, looking at her reflection in the mirror. The red mark was glaringly obvious, like a monster that had just eaten someone. Gritting her teeth, she said, “Duan Qingyu, I’m done with you!”

At the restaurant entrance, the security guard respectfully opened the car door. Ji Yan Zhou got out of the car from the back, dressed in a sharp black suit.

“Isn’t that President Duan’s car?” Xie Yujun, who had gotten out of the passenger seat, noticed the Audi parked in front and mentioned it to Ji Yan Zhou.

Ji Yan Zhou glanced over but seemed reluctant to go over. “Let’s go inside first.”

But the next second, someone got out of the car—Duan Qingyu, his eyes still holding a smile that hadn’t been fully wiped away.

Soon after, the passenger door opened, and someone stepped out, muttering, “You did this on purpose! My lipstick broke, and now it’s out of stock. You owe me…”

When Ji Yan Zhou saw the person’s face, his footsteps froze in place, unable to move.

“I’ll compensate you with ten lipsticks, but you mustn’t post anything about it for a month,” Duan Qingyu glanced at her.

Without thinking, Ji Xue Li rejected, “No, I’ll be the one at a loss. You’re much more valuable than lipstick.”

It was just lipstick—she could afford more, but Duan Qingyu was a “caught duck,” and she couldn’t let him fly away.

Hearing this, Duan Qingyu chuckled and was about to retort when he raised his head and saw Ji Yan Zhou and Xie Yujun.

His smile grew wider. “You guys are here too.”

Ji Xue Li looked over and, seeing them, waved her hand. “Hi!”

Ji Yan Zhou’s face remained cold, not responding.

“Miss Ji, President Duan, how come you two are together?” Xie Yujun, noticing Ji Xue Li had gotten out of Duan Qingyu’s car, seemed momentarily taken aback.

Ji Xue Li rolled her eyes at Ji Yan Zhou, who had been silent, and then said to Xie Yujun, “I just signed a contract with him. We’re here to have a meal together.”

“You signed with START Entertainment?!” Ji Yan Zhou finally spoke, his anger barely contained.

“Yeah, what’s wrong?” Ji Xue Li was confused by his reaction.

Duan Qingyu’s smile deepened as he enjoyed the show—this was quite an interesting scene.

Ji Xue Li didn’t want to keep standing outside, so she pulled Duan Qingyu inside, muttering a few words. “It’s the middle of the day, and he’s on explosives again…”

Ignoring her greeting, then questioning her—he must be crazy…

“He was blown up by a bomb,” Duan Qingyu replied.

“Why are you blowing him up?” Ji Xue Li looked at him, realizing the two of them really didn’t get along.

Duan Qingyu chuckled but didn’t speak further. Inside, he had gained some understanding of their relationship. Ji Xue Li really seemed to have given up on Ji Yan Zhou.

But how could someone who once liked him so much be so quick to pursue someone else?

His gaze shifted to the people walking into the private room, a touch of calculation and coldness flashing in his eyes.

Outside, Xie Yujun saw Ji Yan Zhou’s expression drop to freezing point and couldn’t help but suggest, “President Ji, let’s go inside.”

Ji Yan Zhou clenched his lips, and after a moment, nodded and walked inside.
