Chapter 24: Few People Are Truly Good to You
After a few intense days of 1v1 crash courses at the film academy, the time soon came for the script reading.
This project was adapted from a popular novel, a major IP production. Although Ji Xue Li’s character wasn’t the female lead, it was the villainous second female lead that made the novel explode in popularity.
As a result, there was a lot of controversy online about her playing this role.
Ji Xue Li yawned as she arrived early at the filming location for the opening ceremony. She saw a strange woman standing in the female lead’s spot and furrowed her brows. “Who is this woman?”
“That’s Guan Ru, she’s the female lead,” Han Chen handed her a small fan and replied.
“I remember the female lead wasn’t her, though,” Ji Xue Li took the fan.
“That’s right. Apparently, there were some changes in the casting for the female lead. They felt the previous one wasn’t a good fit,” Han Chen sighed, but in reality, this was all because of the influence of capital…
He couldn’t say much, because this capital was from Ji Yan Zhou.
“Only realizing it right before the shoot starts? What a joke,” Ji Xue Li snorted, already having some suspicions in her mind.
But what could she do? The entertainment industry was essentially a game of capital. As long as it didn’t threaten her, they could do whatever they wanted.
“That’s Ji Xue Li over there. How about you go greet her?” Guan Ru’s manager looked at the girl across the room and suggested.
Guan Ru glanced over. The girl was wearing the same black crew-neck shirt as the rest of the cast. Her face had a cold and aloof expression, looking like an unapproachable rich young lady.
“You’ve forgotten how she used to act all high and mighty. Are you going to just stand there and let her look down on you?” Guan Ru snorted, clearly disdaining her.
“She’s someone favored by the prince and also the Ji family’s daughter. It’s important to maintain a good relationship,” the manager advised.
He knew that most people in the industry disliked Ji Xue Li, largely due to her status, but it was exactly her status that made people cautious around her.
The prince?!
She had already become an artist under START Entertainment, and the prince was someone to be wary of. He was the only belief in Shangjing District.
Guan Ru hesitated for a moment, then gritted her teeth and walked over. “Xue Li, long time no see. You’re finally back from abroad.”
Ji Xue Li was scrolling through Weibo when she heard a voice coming toward her. She put away her phone and looked up.
“Xue Li? Aren’t you a senior?” Ji Xue Li murmured to Han Chen as she heard her address her by name.
Han Chen smiled. “Guan Ru debuted two years before you.”
“Oh.”
“Guan Ru, it’s been a while,” Ji Xue Li smiled and replied.
Who cares if she debuted earlier? She wasn’t obligated to call her a senior.
Still, with that proud young lady attitude, Guan Ru suppressed her dislike and maintained a smile. “I heard you signed with a company. Congratulations!”
“Same to you, you’re playing the female lead,” Ji Xue Li smiled, though her eyes remained indifferent.
This woman probably didn’t have good intentions, just like Ren Tang. But she had disguised herself well.
“It’s just a title. The main lead is still Miss Ji,” Guan Ru’s manager smiled and interjected.
“That’s…” Han Chen couldn’t help but proudly speak up, but Ji Xue Li elbowed him, cutting him off.
They weren’t fully aware of the situation yet. For now, it was better to stay cautious and not attract unnecessary attention or act arrogantly.
“Too polite,” Ji Xue Li glared at Han Chen.
In the entertainment industry, making enemies wouldn’t get you far. Her current priority was to shake off the “pretty face” label and negative reputation, and present herself with a positive image to approach Duan Qingyu.
Han Chen immediately shut his mouth. It mainly bothered him that Ji Yan Zhou had forced Guan Ru into the project. Wasn’t it obvious that he was targeting Ji Xue Li?
“The opening ceremony is starting. Please follow me,” someone approached them and said.
“Okay.”
Ji Xue Li put away her forced smile and coldly glanced at the two of them. “I remember this person doesn’t have a good relationship with me, right?”
“Yeah, there aren’t many in the industry who are good to you…” Han Chen muttered quietly.
She had known it all along…
